On June 22nd Marianne Morgan passed peacefully in her sleep, in her own bed, as she had wished. She was born in Big Stone Gap in August of 1942 to parents Jeanne Bell and Fletcher Bell. Her childhood in Charlottesville was filled with friends and adventure, exploring the Belmont neighborhood and surrounding areas on her bicycle. She graduated from Lane high school where she attended a local LPN program. She then attended the Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing and earned her RN. Upon completion she returned to Charlottesville to serve her community by working at the University of Virginia hospital. Later she was given the opportunity to become an instructor in the same program that started her nursing journey. She jumped at the chance and ultimately taught and graduated 365 students within the program over her 30 year teaching career. In her spare time she would tutor students, play in her garden and enjoy time with her family. She loved to sew and made several formal dresses for her beloved granddaughters. She cherished her role as Meme and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cecil Morgan. Her two daughters, Annette and Claudine. Her grandchildren Amanda, Kirsten, Christopher, Daniel and Will and her great granddaughter Harvey. She is also survived by her three siblings, Jane, Susan and David and a host of adopted friends and family who will miss her terribly. As a nurse, teacher, mother and grandmother she touched so many lives. Marianne touched everyone that she met. She lived her life on her terms from her first strapless bathing suit to fulfilling her wanderlust with her husband. She loved without limitation, she radiated joy, and she always gave her all. Her legacy lives on through her children and students. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, memorial services will be postponed until it is safe to gather and celebrate her life.
