Julie Marie Amell Governale departed our mortal plane on June 20, 2020 at 5:00 AM. She hated the cold and was holding out for summer. Born on Long Island on August 15, 1930 she was one of the “Greatest Generation” and bore witness to the most tumultuous cultural and economic changes in our nation’s history. She grew up living the quintessential post war Long Island life with a large extended family in a tiny house. She was a diligent student, but spent carefree summers socializing on the South Shore beaches. Early on she found secretarial employment with the iconic businesses of Roe Motors and Walter Shirley, selling Studebakers and affordable tract homes to returning GIs, promoting the “American Dream”. It was in this latter employ where she met her future husband Joe (Governale). After a brief courtship they fell in love and decided to build a life together. Besides presiding over a household of four children she helped Joe manage his burgeoning construction company. Being the administrative assistant of Manorville Contracting with offices on the dining room table and later the kitchen table as expansion became necessary was no easy task. However, they managed to keep their rambling industrial ship afloat and recognized their part in the completion of many iconic landmarks such as the Smith Haven Mall and the Sunrise Highway/Veterans Highway exchange. Although she took pride in her working career nothing on this earth took up more of her heart than her family and friends. Besides raising four children of her own, her love of humanity flowed into her entire community as she volunteered for the secretarial positions for the Brookfield cemetery and the Manorville Senior Citizens. She loved children and would always find time to babysit for the children of friends and neighbors and later her grandchildren. She affectionately become known throughout town as “Aunt Julie”, cementing her legacy as the foremost authority for all things maternal. Nothing
