Jayaram Paramesan

9th February, 1943 - 3rd February, 2023

Shri P. Jayaram was born in Bengaluru on 9th February 1943 to K. Paramesan and Kamakshi. He was the oldest among 7 siblings. After completing his BSc at the early age of 19, he went on to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering from BMS College of Engineering. He joined Indian Airlines shortly thereafter and worked in the Engineering department until his retirement in the year 2000 at the post of General Manager. Most of his career was spent in Mumbai, bookended by a few years at the beginning and end in Delhi. As a part of his initial career he spent 2 years in Glasgow as an apprentice with Rolls Royce. He got married on June 10th 1973 to Vaidehi Jayaram at Mysuru. He is survived by his wife Vaidehi, two daughters, Smita and Sweta, and son-in-law Navin. He has 3 grandchildren, Aditya, Arjun and Ila. He is also survived by his siblings Janakiram, Vijayalakshmi, Kumar, Sathyanarayan and Srinivasan. His sister Jyothilakshmi is previously deceased. Shri P. Jayaram had a great zest for life. He was interested in and knowledgeable about a broad range of topics that included history, birds, investing and music. He loved traveling and has been to many countries, besides visiting many historical and cultural places and national parks within India. For him age was just a number and he was always learning new things. At one point he decided to pick up Tai chi. Just two years ago he decided to learn Spanish although it clearly has no practical use in Navi Mumbai. He had no formal training in music yet he could identify all the raagas. He had a vast collection of songs that he would listen to and always enthusiastically participated in any singing events. Always forward thinking, he was an environmentalist and a feminist long before these concepts existed in India. He loved cooking and trying exotic international cuisine. He kept up with the latest technology and trends and was almost as tech savvy as his grandchildren. He was a hero and role model to many.
