This online memorial has been created for family and friends from around the world to remember and celebrate Irvin's legacy. Irvin Duc Thien Nguyen passed away unexpectedly in the first week of August 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam at the age of 36 years old. Irvin is survived by his brothers Ian Duc Thang Nguyen, Nigel Noel Nguyen and George Robert Leece, his sisters, Nadia Noelle Nguyen¬¬ and Elizabeth Christine Leece, and stepfather Robert Matthew Leece. He is preceded in death by his mother Sherry Khai Leece. Irvin was born on December 13, 1986, in the year of the tiger, to Sherry Kai Leece and Son Lam Nguyen in San Francisco, CA. In 1987, he moved to Chico, CA where he spent his youth playing basketball, running cross country and an active participant in student leadership up to his senior year of high school when he served as ASB President at Pleasant Valley High School. In college, Irvin became a brother of the business fraternity, Delta Sigma, and graduated from UC San Diego in 2009 with a degree in International Studies – Economics. After his graduation, Irvin settled in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to develop his career in banking, tech, consulting services and various business ventures. In Vietnam, Irvin had diverse industry success including roles as deputy director and head of finance as well as building a vast network with industry executives, finance professionals, startup founders and business owners. He embarked on an amazing life-time journey full of adventures across Southeast Asia and built a community of countless friends. Irvin will always be remembered as an intelligent, charismatic and witty person who embraced life to the fullest. He lived by his own code and was fiercely independent. He was incredibly sociable and built deep connections with many close to him. He had a unique sense of humor that made those around him laugh hysterically. He touched hundreds of lives in various countries of all ages young and old. Irvin will be missed greatly by all that knew him. Irvin Duc Thien Nguyen will return to the United States for his final resting. A funeral service is being arranged in Chico, California, with a reception to follow. Date/time TBD.
