In March 2020, theatres across the country were plunged into darkness as COVID-19 swept the globe. Due to tough lockdown and social distancing restrictions, theatres have been unable to reopen fully, and as a result, are suffering huge financial losses. With little support from the Government, despite it being promised, many have had no income since March. Although managers and producers have tried their hardest to comply with the rules, doing things such as temperature checks, staggered entry, making masks compulsory, selling less tickets to comply with social distancing, they are still being told that they are not allowed to open. As well as the financial implications of this, performers and theatre staff are also suffering mentally as they feel like their voices aren't being heard. Theatre is more than an income for them, it's a family. The West End Fan Choir is very much a part of that family, and during lockdown we have been fundraising for theatrical charities with singing videos. Whilst our second project is being edited, we have created this book of moments and memories to show our solidarity and support with the industry. We want them to know we stand with them, we are aiming to raise awareness of their fight, and we will be there when theatres finally open their doors once again.
