    Mary Carr In 1989, triple j went from being a Sydney-only station to broadcasting in other capital cities and some regional areas. City by city, year by year triple j has since spread to every corner of the country.

    Mary Carr Joy Division – "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (1980) This was the first winner of what would become an iconic event. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a song by English rock band Joy Division, released in June 1980 as a non-album single. Its lyrics were inspired by lead singer Ian Curtis's marital problems and struggles with mental illness. The single was released the month after Curtis's suicide.

    Mary Carr triple J's Hottet 100 in 1992 as they realised that the poll's results were unlikely to significantly change from year to year. So they chose to pause the Hottest 100 in 1992 and relaunch it as an annual poll the following year. The newly launched poll required listeners to vote for their favourite songs of that year.

    Mary Carr Denis Leary tops the Hottest 100 chart for the year of 1993. He is an American comedian and released the song as a the only single from his album No Cure for Cancer.
