Family and friends
Welcome to Suzanne’s timeline. Here we can all share memories and photos (and videos if you have them) of Suzanne’s fully-lived life. Pictures from her childhood and young adult years are especially welcome, and any memories you’d like to share. I know some of you won’t be at her Celebration of Life in June; I especially invite you to write here what you would have wanted to say in person.
Join Memories to request access to contribute your cherished photos, videos, and stories to Suzanne's memorial with others who loved them.

Dale Allen Such a pretty baby!
Dale Allen Happy 4th of July! Check out the car behind her.
Dale Allen Do you suppose she was a quiet 3-year-old? Looks sweet enough here....

Dale Allen With Dad, Mom, Jimmy and Nan. Curiously, the back of the photo says Sturman Prince Motor Sales. Anybody know why?

Nan Cogle We went to Aspen together to visit a friend in 1968. On the way, we stopped in Nebraska. She loved the riding lawnmower!
Nan Cogle Suzanne and I were sorority sisters and roommates and dear friends. This is her birthday at Michigan State University. We went to Aspen together to visit a friend in 1969. (She stayed 2 weeks, I stayed 7 years) The most current pic is in New Smyrna Beach FL in 2019. She was one of a kind!

Dale Allen Here's a mystery snapshot that I can't resist posting because Suzanne is so young and pretty. The lace curtains and panel doors remind me of San Francisco, but I'm just guessing at the location and date.
Dale Allen Suzanne made dresses for her nieces and herself when Laurie and Sandy were 4 and Wendy was 6. Wendy just found this photo; it was pretty dark, so she brightened it the best she could

Dale Allen It was a homegrown garden wedding, just a few friends in an orchard - with sock monkeys watching from the trees.
Dale Allen Of all the photos from Risa's first year, this may be my very favorite. Risa was exactly one year old.
Dale Allen What a classy mom! Also devoted and creative and fun. Suzanne found so many great opportunities for Risa - from an outstanding Montessori daycare to an outrageous horse camp. She was a natural.
Dale Allen I know very little about this photo, but can't resist posting it, because it so captures Suzanne's beauty and class. I don't even know how old she was... somewhere in her thirties, maybe forties? She's on a bench with a sculpture of a gay couple. San Francisco?

Dale Allen Suzanne loved spending time with her mom, especially talking about books; they were both avid readers. Can you read the book title??
Dale Allen Suzanne loved fashion statements - especially if they made a point close to her heart. She spend the last 20 years of her career teaching and promoting breastfeeding, plus co-creating a lactation clinic with Laurie Relling. Shown here with Cheryl Proctor and Janet Kinser.
Dale Allen Risa, Suzanne and Nan doing what they did best - having too much fun!
Dale Allen Just for fun!
nina scott Suzanne holding our baby Mirenna...Dale and Risa visit too. Dale, Suzanne and Risa were about 9-10 years ahead of Coease, Nina and Mirenna. We adults began parenthood in our forties, each graced with one precious daughter!
Dale Allen Clockwise: Suzanne, her niece Sandy, brother Jim, Risa, sister-in-law Lynne, Mom. Lynne shared that her daughters always looked forward to Suzanne's visits. "She wore pretty, long dresses and sandals .... She looked very beautiful and glamorous. The girls loved to be around her." She also brought gifts - dolls dressed in native costumes from Honduras, a macrame bottle she made, and "a fancy, large rainbow kite. It was quite extravagant, but she worked at a store that sold them and couldn't resist. Anything rainbow was "in" then and the girls were thrilled!"
Dale Allen Hard at work. Providence Hospital labor and delivery unit.
Dale Allen On the porch with Risa and a friend and our kitty Necia.
Dale Allen Middle School Graduation. Check out the fancy paper! Suzanne loved to give beautiful things - especially to her only daughter.
Dale Allen New Year's Eve progressive party in our old neighborhood. As you can imagine, we got sillier and smilier as the evening went on. This was taken at Susan's house - the last stop, I believe.
Dale Allen Written on the back in lovely cursive: Harriett and Suzanne wearing hard hats as they went down into a slate mine in Wales.
Dale Allen Two shots, one long friendship. Suzanne and Doreen probably knew each other for 60 years, were close friends in high school, always saw each other at reunions, and had a long farewell conversation last July.
Judy Todd Times and Places with Suzanne were filled with adventure, exploration and appreciation. Never boring, always delight in sharing. Mysterious Beauty: January 2012 Epiphany Retreat at Cascade Head with hiking buddies Nancy and Carolyn.
Judy Todd Summer Fun and Laughter: rocky paths, spray behind the waterfall at Tamanawas Falls with Suzanne, Mary Ellen, Denny, Dale and me.
Dale Allen At Stonehenge on the Columbia River. Taken by Denny Kidd, who always brought out the best in her.
Judy Todd Ancestors and Stories: Ceremonial visit to Tsagaglalal above the ancient Celilo Falls. What wonderful times we shared.
Dale Allen Suzanne knew just what to do with babies. We visited Eli and Noelle on our way to Spain and they were happy to have extra Sidney-holders!
Dale Allen Suzanne always enjoyed a cold drink on a hot day. We were in Belize, celebrating Sabrina and Justin's wedding.
Dale Allen Suzanne celebrated her 70th birthday surrounded by the best of friends and plenty of silliness.
Dale Allen With Nan on Martha’s Vineyard.
Dale Allen Suzanne loved to walk and she loved to travel. A perfect day in the west of Ireland!
Dale Allen Another fun visit with Nan’s family at Sagamore Beach
Nan Cogle Suzanne and I were sorority sisters and roommates and dear friends. When she and Dale visited us in New Smyrna Beach, we did lots of bird-watching.
Nan Cogle We all had fun exploring New Smyrna. Suzanne was one of a kind!
Dale Allen Mother's Day 2019. Risa flew in late the night before, didn't make a sound until Suzanne left for her volunteer gig, then drove to the farmer's market and blew Mom's mind! It was a very happy Mother's Day.
Nora Stern Suzanne was our neighbor at Cully Grove from the beginning of the community. She was light-hearted, so kind and warm, and interested in everything. What a lovely neighbor. My husband Abe and I got to go with Dale and Suzanne on a precious overnight up the Kalama Lodge right before the pandemic shut everything down. On the deck on a beautiful day, and exploring the secret room. I so miss her, and will always remember the tremendous graciousness.
Jenna Scott Suzanne was part of our loosely termed Book Group. Suzanne brought her amazing intelligence and wonderful sense of humor to our gatherings. We did talk about books, but mostly about our lives, our kids, and our relationships. Pamela Echeverio, Coni Lloyd, Cascade Anderson (who died in 2013) and myself make up this group which started in the late 1990s. Suzanne is missed.
Dale Allen Diane took these two pics. She was always stirring up trouble and Suzanne loved it!
Dale Allen Suzanne had many wonderful visits last summer, especially from MaryEllen, Diane and Jenna - the women who made her laugh and feel loved no matter what. (I can't find a picture of Jenna, unfortunately.) Always on the porch because of Covid, but the weather was beautiful most days.
Diane Lieppman Suzanne and her Siren Sisters, and other photos I've collected.
