Join MemoriesWe chronicle the life of the Sciascia Family. Five generations of a family who arrived in Western Australia from Monteodorisio, Abruzzo in the 1950s.
Sciascia Family Carmillo Sciascia who served in WW11 in the Italian Army, fighting in Germany. He survived and migrated to Australia in 1950 from Monteodorisio in Abruzzo. Lest We Forget.
Sciascia Family Mrs Carmina SCIASCIA wife of Camillo , with her children Maria Alberto and Tommaso just prior to leaving Monteodorisio for Jandakot Western Australia in July 1953 to join him. He had left by ship from Genova in 1949, a trip that took approximately 39 days. 1953 Maria, Alberto, Carmina and Tommaso Sciascia, Monteodorisio, Italy.
Sciascia Family Photo is 1992, but the story starts much earlier. In the centre is Nonna Carmina Doralice who emigrated to Australia from Italy in 1953 and her husband Camillo Sciascia who emigrated in 1949/50. He worked chopping wood at night and by day he worked at the Jandakot Wool Scourers in Western Australia. Within three years, Caremlo had bought a property in Jandakot and built their first house. They are surrounded by their family, especially their son Tommaso (rear left of Camillo) and the next four generations of these Sciascias in Perth.
Sciascia Family Tommaso Sciascia, at 17 on his scooter. He has always loved cars and bikes, and started his sales career selling tyres, and then moved onto a long career in real estate.
Sciascia Family Tommy welcomes his only child, Todd. By 1967, Tom was enamoured of football and Australia, and he’d made his name easier for the locals to pronounce. Going from Sciascia to ShaSha. He’d also got married and named his first born after the great footballer and coach, John Todd, who had become a friend and hero to Tom. (Todd Shasha at 4 months)
Sciascia Family Todd at 2 years old
Sciascia Family Todd became a real cutie, and look at all that hair, right? This is from a studio series and he’s around 5 years old. (When Todd Had Hair)
Sciascia Family This was a special year. Tom and Joan had fallen in love a few years earlier and married on Valentine’s Day.
Sciascia Family And that meant a whole new extension to the family - Joan’s children, and her Mum Kathleen. Tom always loves bringing the whole family together, and here they are at Todd and Lesley’s wedding later that year.
Sciascia Family Hang on what? What wedding? Todd’s wedding. Is it any wonder that little cutie Todd married his high school sweetheart Lesley as soon as possible? They have shared a lifetime together, and even share the same birthday.
Sciascia Family Who’s this guy? That’s Nonno Camillo with Tommy and his first born Todd and Todd’s first born, baby Jordan Sciascia. Four generations. (Todd, Camillo holding Jordan and Tom Sciascia)
Sciascia Family The Sciascias are water babies. Here’s 3-month old Jordan having a swim with his Daddy. [A Pool Somewhere in Perth]
Sciascia Family Looks like we skipped a couple of chapters because now there’s three little Shasha boys. We didn’t have smart phones back then, we only had cameras. ikr? Meet Caine and Ethan, the not so new little brothers to Jordan. Doesn’t everyone look soooo well behaved?
Sciascia Family This generation of Shasha boys were introduced to the snow by Tommy, who came from a tiny village in Abruzzo, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. When Todd was a little boy, Tommy would take him all the way to the snow in Victoria and New South Wales as often as he could, and they became excellent skiers. It didn’t take long for that to become a strong family tradition.
Sciascia Family ... until just like that they were edging towards becoming teenagers.
Sciascia Family Snow sports are forever. Thredbo days.
Sciascia Family Alberto and Tommaso SCIASCIA at the Café Sciascia in Roma, on one of their famous visits to Italy together. These brothers left Italy as little boys in 1953 and made lives and families for themselves in Australia.
Sciascia Family And then this kind of thing happened. It is entirely possible alcohol may have been involved in the making of this memory.
Sciascia Family Love always wins. And there’s a surprise coming sometime later this year.
Sciascia Family The newest little Sciascia to join the pack, and here we have four generations of Shasha boys again. The band’s back together! (Todd, Reid, Tom and Jordan Sciascia)
Sciascia Family Magic happened. Jordan and Jess proudly announced the arrival of Reid Sciascia. Four generations going strong!
Sciascia Family There’s no mistaking that Sciascia resemblance.
Sciascia Family The happiest Nanna in the world. Nanna Lesley.

Sciascia Family Another water baby. Jess and Jordan take Reid for a swim.
Sciascia Family Jordan and Reid in pool
Sciascia Family Lots of photos of Nonno and Nanna, Bisnonno and Bisnonna with Reid.
Sciascia Family You can take the boys out of Italy, but you cannot take Italy out of the boys. Quality control of the salsicce and coppa. Luckily Nonno has Reid keeping a close eye on it.
Sciascia Family Tommaso SCIASCIA, with Reid Sciascia, great grandson of Tommaso who migrated to Perth, Western Australia from Monteodorisio with his Mother Mrs Camillo SCIASCIA in 1953, to join his father. Reid is the fifth generation of SCIASCIA in Perth, Western Australia. Reid is the son of Tom’s Grandson Jordan & his wife Jess Sciascia.
