    Rupert Hamer

    Hamer was a long-serving international correspondent who passed away tragically at the age of 39. He was well known in the broadcasting circles for his great reporting and courage for travelling frequently to Afghanistan where he worked closely with troops on the ground. Rupert James Hamer was born in 1970 in East Anglia, England and went to the city's Town Close school. Like every young boy he enjoyed playing sports especially rugby and athletics. In 1991, he attended Leeds University where he studied Politics, and edited a satirical column for the university's newspaper. He worked as news correspondent at Bournemouth Evening Echo in southeast Dorset, England from 1994 to 1997. In 1997, Rupert started working full time for "Sunday Mirror." After couple of months of working as a freelancer for "International News Service" and "Sunday Mirror," the latter recognized his talent and offered him a position.
