Hilary Jarvis Gorgeous holiday in the wonderful Puerto Pollensa - hats, hats hats !
Emma Tompkins When she was little Ruby used to be initially a bit terrified of my visits, as I would charge in shouting 'hello Ruby' and trying to give her a kiss. Slowly over time (and with help from Emma), I learned that I had to come in quietly, let Ruby observe me, and come to me. This is one of the visits where she was explaining something to me in great detail requiring hand gestures. I love how expressive Ruby was in her story telling.
Emma Tompkins When Emma asked if I would like to go away with Ruby to Disneyland Paris, I jumped at the chance. However, it was a bit too loud, too busy, and too Disney for all of us. I think we had the nicest times chilling out in the hotel!

Emma Tompkins Ruby was adored by both our boys. She would run around with them, let them crawl on her, give them piggy back rides, and endlessly read them “You Choose”. They adore her.
Françoise FERTIER POTTIER Ruby will stay in our heart forever. I remember her wonderful smile and her kindness when she came to visit us in Nantes (France). She enjoyed particularly going on a fantastic merry-go-round, on a pirate -fish vessel, with Clarisse.

Laurie Fuller Ruby was so witty and dry in her humor. I appreciated her candor and her engagement with changing the world. I loved knowing that she was a feminist intent on learning and engaging in justice work. These photos were taken in 2016 when we visited the Tate, saw art, made art and looked in other people's windows.

Jessie Rosenbaum At the 2017 Lambeth Country Show 💗
Today I am having a zero-motivation-day and it made me think of the way Ruby described these sorts of days: “I’m in an unproductive funk...” 🤪💕 I think she told me this in her GCSE year.

Emma Jones Summer 2018; Lambeth Country Show. One of her friends took this picture (thank you!), but Dylan and I met her later that evening at the Ritzy to see a movie (Mamma Mia I think). I vividly remember waiting to meet her outside the cinema, and seeing her strolling across Windrush Square, looking fabulous in those psychedelic trousers and her signature sunglasses, turning heads as she walked. I squeezed Dylan's hand and whispered to him, 'Look at our girl; isn't she gorgeous.' 💖

I first met Ruby when I became her tutor in year 12 in 2018 and as a new teacher to the school she was definitely a welcomed friendly face to see each morning. I only recently learnt that Ruby had previously been Head Girl in yr. 11, which now seems so obvious. She stood out to me as someone very smart, mature, considerate, and passionate about eve...

Emma Jones Kayaking down the Gorges de L’Ardeche. We got COMPLETELY stuck when we mistook an overflow chute for the kayak slide. I was starting to panic but Ruby kept her cool & we managed to get unstuck eventually; we then collapsed in a fit of giggles, which is when this photo was taken. 🤣 💕
Alex McAuley We have lots of lovely memories of Ruby over the years, particularly from April last year when she, Emma, Dylan & Tabitha came to stay with us in St Remy de Provence. One of them was of a picnic we had in the grounds of l'Abbaye de Senanque where we ate practically our body weights in Ossau Iraty with plenty of baguette, tomatoes, endive and clementines. (She also taught me how to take a proper selfie during that stay - very useful but not sure I have totally mastered that yet!). Ruby loved the cheese, and as we sadly have no photos from that day, here is one from today when we re created the picnic so we could remember and celebrate Ruby. Ruby had so many outstanding qualities I've had to think hard to choose the one that stands out the most for me, but I have decided that it is 'considered'. She would never enter into a discussion nor offer an opinion on a subject without putting a lot of thought into what she was going to say. This is an admirable quality in anyone, but particularly in someone so young. With her strong principles and her complete lack of fear for standing up for what she believed in, she was a perfect example of the kind of young person who gives me hope for the future in this totally messed up world in which we live. Fortunately there are plenty more who follow in her footsteps (Tabitha springs to mind) and that she has been an inspiration for them is a remarkable legacy for her to leave behind. Her stay may have been brief, but she most certainly has left her mark on so very many of us. Ruby, you lived kindly; you lived loudly. We will very humbly do our best to live up to your example. Lots of love Gogo & John xxxxxxxx
Flo Jarvis Ruby, Percy and I went to see the fabulous SIX musical in the summer. We met up in Hyde park beforehand for a picnic and I remember chatting about Ruby’s A Levels and her giving me life advice 😉 Percy was late and there was a hilarious text exchange as we ambled around Hyde Park trying to find each other. We loved the actual musical and all joined in with a standing ovation at the end - a lovely evening ☺️ (Photo is not mine, once again we didn’t take any 😫)

Emma Jones 26 April 2020; a couple of days after we found out that Ruby’s cancer was back & there was no longer any hope of a cure - and less than 3 weeks before she died. She was still feeling really well at this point & somehow we managed to have a lovely weekend. I love how serene she looks in this photo, hanging out with Pacifica. 💕💕

Ruby was one of the first people I met before coming to Charter. Such a beautiful soul. I will miss you❤️
Amongst many other things I was lucky enough to supervise Ruby throughout her EPQ and without a doubt she was one of the best and most independent students I have had the pleasure of working with in my years of EPQ. We had some great chats about politics and Brexit - trying to put the world to right, and Ruby was always keen for feedback on what sh...

I had the privilege of being Ruby’s head of year (year 9-11) and her Textiles teacher. It really was an honour and Privilege to have been both to Ruby. As teachers we watch all our students grow and develop. Ruby was truly an amazing student and friend to her peers. She developed in to a confident young lady becoming our head girl. You were what...

Alli Pine-Coffin Reception ... Class Photo ❤️❤️❤️
My first memory of Ruby is of dancing around the living room with her and Jessie, singing along to Abba and giggling hysterically. Dancing and laughing are two of the things I associate most with Ruby. She had a beautiful and distinctive laugh. And I think she was brave and impressive in her ability to enter a room of people she hardly knew and to ...

Harry Fuller After three-quarters of a century on this spinning rock, I have witnessed death before. Of grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, a brother, too many old friends and true. I have seen people with compassion, even wisdom, kindness, foresight, generosity. Also way too much arrogance, ignorance, greed and tribal hatred. We are a complex species with a great capacity for creativity and destruction. Any grand-daughter is precious to one of my age. A chance to hope for a future world becoming saner, kinder, renewable far beyond any horizon I will see. A grand-daughter can let an old duffer imagine better, wiser, sustainable changes and a world where more than corporations and profit are considered crucial to survival. That imagining leads not to continuing today’s world where we now see the Anglo-American response to covid playing out as the archetypical result of ignorance, arrogance and systematic cruelty. Ruby was central to those hopes and imaginings. She wasn’t just nice or admired. She was smart, held a wisdom that would be remarkable in a zen monk, saw and understood the realities of today’s threatened planet and life thereon. Her personal motto said much--to live both kindly and loudly is a challenge few people I’ve known could even envision, much less attempt. Ruby had begun well and continued as long as she lived. Her life was exemplary, beautiful, a work to be admired and copied for those who dare. Certainly she leaves behind an example, an exhortation really, do what you can while you can! Cowardice or indifference cannot be excused. Kindly and loudly, step to the front. Here are some of my favorite images from Ruby’s life. She arrived early, left us way too early, but she was always ahead of us, before us, yet wanting us alongside. --Gramps Harry and Granny Kate, messaging from Oregon
Sarah Leach Almost forgot I had this one ...an early love of animals perhaps?
Sarah Leach Ruby was one of the few people who liked and understood my dog - for which I will be forever grateful
Julie Talcott-Fuller Lovely dynamic Ruby
One of my most vivid memories of Ruby was when we were both really young and her saying “it’s just not to my taste” if she didn’t like a food, something my family and I still say to this day. She was the sweetest girl, I’ll miss her very much<3
Julie Talcott-Fuller Getting ready for a trail ride in Ashland. Ruby got to ride Reno and that's Tabitha up on Zeppelin. Granny is leading Tiger (?--I think) and Auntie Julie took the pics. A fun day.
Harry Fuller A close friend of Gramps and Granny in Oregon sent us this poem in honor or our Ruby: Angel (GK, aggelos, “messenger”) The kite hovers over the stubbled fields, her sharp glance rapturous. Sunlight reflects off her breast like a spear. I hold out my arms to shield my eyes from the glare, wanting to embrace her. I stare at her, there, between heavens and earth and suddenly, she is gone leaving a white memory in the air. We, among your many friends and family, share a portion of your grief. Love, Kirk

In an email From Emma, March 2007: Years ago you told us we should keep a notebook and write down some of the things that Ruby says. Well, we've finally heeded your advice, and I thought you might like to hear some of her recent, more poetic musings: (In her room just after waking up and looking at the sunrise) "I think it must be bonfire night ...

Hilary Jarvis We are so proud to have known Ruby and watched her grow and develop. She was a wonderful force to be reckoned with and an inspiration to Percy, Flo and Stanley. We will miss her. But we will also always hold her close. I love the way we’ve all been talking about her and referring to her here and there these past few days. I almost feel like she’s not that far away .... Love you, Ruby. Hilary, Malcolm, Percy, Flo & Stanley x
Percy Jarvis Some amazing photos. Ruby, Tabitha and my siblings (Flo and Stan) at a Feather Down Farms holiday we shared together, and me making an absolute fool of myself on the Carver Road trampoline (and Ruby looking fittingly disdainful!!). I have known Ruby my whole life, literally since I was born. We grew up together, she was my first friend, and we shared many hilarious, happy times like these. She was growing into a phenomenal young woman who I hoped to know all my life; while now I won't know her physically in person, I will always know her and never forget her.
Tasmin Nixon The day after visiting Ruby’s beautiful memorial, I noticed these poppies flowering from the pavement itself. Personally, I do not believe in coincidences and I believe that everything happens for a reason. To say that these poppies grew vigorously, and vibrantly also, near the spot where Ruby used to wait for me and 2 other friends every morning, proves to me that my belief is correct. She was always close, always smiling, and always happy to accompany me (and whoever else had the pleasure to walk with her) to and from our school. I knew there was a secret reason for her to only live 2 minutes away from me, and the honour I know me and my 2 friends share to hear her stories, her laughs, and her occasional skipping to school, will be one we share for life. These poppies glow the most heavenly red, just like Ruby’s name suggests, and I know she’s near me and all who loved her. I know she’s still shining brightly.
Suzy Jesus De Freitas Dorset trip, July 2019 When I came to Charter at the beginning of Year 12, not knowing anyone, Ruby was so nice to me and always made me feel welcome. She was so smart, sweet, friendly and confident. I miss our little chats in geography and having you there in the classroom for both geography and maths. I didn't know Ruby for long but she is one of the most amazing people I've ever met, I am so lucky to have known her and I am forever thankful and grateful for her. You will never be forgotten.
Ollie Inman Ruby was one of my closest friends, and for that reason i am finding it very difficult to sum her, and this memory up. Her humour got me through every year 12 free period we had together. Without realising, she made it all exciting and I actually looked forward to and anticipated going in on the days i knew i was going to be relaxing or studying with her.
Ollie Inman parties and sharing every exceptional moment in EPQ

Mary-Anne Jones What can I say about my darling niece Ruby? Would it sound right if I said I looked up to her? I'd like to think it was the other way round but can't really say I've done anything to deserve the same. Ruby was someone that really used her brain the best way anyone can - doing well academically was a just given but she was a person that cared so much about so many good causes she would go/do/say something about it and do it brilliantly! She was a great cousin to my 2 children and having spent many hours looking through photos see the instant bond they had from the get go. I have so many questions to ask Ruby - I know she would give me the best advise on how to handle teenage situations etc but I will just have to talk to my angel now and hope I get her signs of guidance another way. I will miss her but am lucky enough to have 18 years of many amazing memories that I will treasure forever in my heart! x

Cleo Walton I remember ruby coming over to play with her annoying little cousins and we would have a great time .Even though a lot of our memories where when I was younger and I don’t remember a lot of them I still remember the game we used to play and we would all pretend to be rabbits living in a burrow and we would throw all of our duvets and pillows into a massive pile and we would pretend we where a rabbit family. All of our trips to Tresco would always be so fun and we would all go on adventures to the secret treehouse and play hide and seek in the dolphin house garden . She was the most beautiful person inside and out and I will miss her so much 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

ANDREW JONES Ruby makes her stage debut at the Albert Hall!
As Ruby’s Headteacher, I want to say how proud we have always been of her. She was such a great student and a wonderful person, and her kindness, integrity and energy shone through so clearly – she made the school a better place simply by her presence, and truly embodied everything we wanted our students to be. These are just some of the reasons...
Clement Carr Here are a few lovely pictures (some blurry) of Ruby and I having a fun time! Ruby was an amazing, energetic and loving friend. When I think back to our time as friends, it is always fun memories, full of laughter.
