Roger S. Werthmann's memory board
Roger Sebastian Werthmann of Peoria, Arizona was born on October 24th, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa. His parents Mabel Hoese and Sebastian Werthmann had 10 children, Roger was number four. His nine siblings are Joan, Leon, Bernard, Elayne, Mary, Jerome, Barbara, Geraldine and Madonna. In 1954 Roger returned to Davenport after serving in the Army and married his sweetheart, Shirley Joyce Schwerdtfeger. They moved to the Northwest for job opportunities and together raised their five kids in the Seattle suburbs. He spent his career in Boeing’s engineering division working on the B707 and B737 passenger jets. In 1977 Roger was recognized for his skills and dedication when he became Boeing’s Employee of the Month. He retired early and then enjoyed many years on the golf course. Roger was always an active guy, fixing whatever needed fixing. He could repair just about anything from cars to roofing and had excellent skills as a carpenter. He was an early DIYer before the term was even around. He loved to travel and he cruised the Mediterranean, Hawaii, Australia, South Pacific, Mexico, Alaska and the Carribean with his partner Marilyn. He also enjoyed road trips, hiking and camping in his earlier years. Roger is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Werthmann in 2001. Then his partner Marilyn Murry in 2020. Roger is survived by his five children, Linda Stas (Chaney Stas), Sharon McLelland (Ron Thuleen), Debra Bussone (Brian Bussone), Ron Werthmann (Matt Tierney) and Susan McGrew (Bob Erickson). Along with his eight grandchildren, Gwen, Darla, Jolene, Carrie, Eric, Brooke, Dylan and Blaine, plus seven great grandkids. He will be missed!
