Bertie passed away peacefully in Cleveland, Australia on Wednesday 16th January 2019, at the adventure filled age of 86. Bertie was born and raised in Melfort, Saskatchewan with a short stint away to complete her registered nurse certification in Edmonton, Alberta at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Shortly after returning to Melfort, Bertie married Tom Grieg and had two children, Tannis & Tom Jr. (Bomber). Bertie & family moved to Grimshaw, Alberta so that Tom could fulfill a Hockey Coaching career and Bertie could work as a registered nurse at the Peace River General Hospital and later the Peace River Health Unit. An exciting opportunity saw a major career change for both Bertie and Tom in form of building and operating the Airport Drive-In Theatre. They got everyone involved, family and friends were employed in the concession, the ticket booth and/or janitorial duties. Though they worked hard Bertie & Tom were adamant about taking time for summer holidays, to take the time to appreciate what they had, spend quality time as a family and travel. Bertie & Tom we’re actively involved in community sporting events, ranging from golf to hockey, and strongly encouraged and supported their kids Tannis and Tom Jr to also participate. Retirement found Bertie & Tom in Shuswap Lake, BC where they enjoyed a lake style life of boating, fishing and entertaining. Subsequent homes were in Oliver & Kelowna, for Bertie & Tom. Bertie was preceded by Tom in 2006. In 2014, Bertie jumped ship to Australia to live with her daughter Tannis and family. Bertie was always a fan of the sun, the beach and the many family activities. As long as it meant there was a happy hour. While Bertie was across the world from family and friends she was able to keep in touch through the wonders of technology. Although she missed everyone dearly Australia was a new found home. Bertie is survived by her two loving children Tannis (Bill) and Tom Jr (Jocelyn), her sister Heather and her grandchildren Kaelei & Scott, Megan & Jacob and her great grandkids Haylee & Will, Gabriel, Joanna & xxx. She will be missed.
