Lest We Forget Service : ARMY Unit : 7 RAR 02-Apr-67 to 26-Apr-68 Rank : Brigadier Number : 47049 /4156 Peter Leon McGuinness was born on 5 June 1945 at Ballarat in Victoria. His family moved to NSW where he attended Broken Hill High School. He attended the Royal Military College Duntroon, Canberra and graduated in 1966. His first appointment was as a platoon commander in the 7th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment, and for 13 months served in the Republic of Vietnam. He served in Papua New Guinea for 6 years from colonial times through to independence; attended Staff College in the United Kingdom; participated in the Monitoring Force during the transition of Rhodesia to Zimbabwe; commanded the 5/7 Royal Australian Regiment; spent many years in Army Office in Canberra; had a long association with the Joint Services College, Canberra; attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in London; was Commandant of the command and Army Staff College, Queenscliff; and completed his 34 years as the Defence Advisor to the Australian High Commissioner in London. He then commenced another successful career as a nursery owner. Peter was deeply loved and well respected throughout his life. He is survived by his wife Sheralyn, children David, Robert and Larissa, and grandchildren Samzen, River, Taiga and Nina. He is sadly missed.
