It was November 1963. I remember it well for a number of reasons. We were at a Brethren Week-end Retreat at Keswick. Martin Higginbottom was the speaker. We got the news that President Kennedy had been shot. I was exited about the future because, the following January, I was expecting to join OM just for a year. Saturday afternoon a small grou...
Hello,Peter!I am very sorry to hear you have been ill but so glad to send you a couple of memories:1.I first met you in the summer of 1969 in Nottingham when I was on my very first OM team, putting my big toe very gingerly in the waters of evangelism and OM life and you were a dynamic (still teenage?) boy preacher and already an impressive evangelis...
I remember Peter speaking at Ford's Lane church youth group (in Bramhall, Manchester) in 1979. He said that Mormons have to do mandatory missionary service and we should be as willing to serve Christ. I signed up for a month's summer campaign and am still here some 40 years later.... it was a word in season, and led to one of the best life decision...
Peter McKeever Summer days in Banff when our children were small and Peter had hair! All our family remember those times with joy. Thank you for sharing with us and creating memories that last. Love from the McKeevers
Phil Davies Dear Peter, I (Phil) remember the first time I saw you preach distinctly . It was in Birmingham in 1981. I had come with a group from Swansea to the OM Leadership Conference. I had met Nigel Lee (your very dear friend) the autumn before and came to receive some more input. It was first your preaching that drew me to you. That honest, biblical and faithful style mixed with your gentle and gracious humour. We returned the next year and the next. Through the many years in OM that followed when Sheila then I joined OM in 1984 it was your bible teaching and your gentle leadership that often brought inspiration, encouragement and a sense that the Lord has His hand on OM. There were many times in the years that followed (both in OM and now in Counties) you brought a sense of balance mingled with wisdom as you pointed us forward in leadership and then took your hands off to let us run and lead. Sheila would always say that your teaching was one of the things that stood out for us. Thank you, our brother. We will miss you on earth but look forward with you to âŚ. .... mansions of Glory and endless delight. I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright. I'll sing with the glittering crown upon my brow. If ever I loved Thee my Jesus tis now. Win and your family will be much on our hearts and prayers in the days that lie ahead I took these picture around 1989 /90 in India together with your dear friend Philip who is also with Jesus â We remember your wisdom, grace, humour and biblical insights with great delight. Phil & Sheila Davies (Swansea)

Peter, Win & family are in my daily prayers. I met Peter on Logos Bhavan, & remember walking towards the dinning room and talking about joining the Doulos for a short period. I did go to the Doulos in 1994 for 3 months. In 1995 Peter visited Forest Hill and had a chat with me about various things, marriage was one of them. I took your advice ...
I remember when my Peter and I were moving house into Low Row, we didn't really know Peter and Win that well, as we had only recently started going to Hebron. My Peter had had a stroke and was still in a wheelchair and very depressed and I just didn't know how I would cope with the move, so I rang Peter to ask whether anybody would be able to help ...
Juhani Ahola For Peter, In -97 we returned from Israel and you Peter "checked" me up if I was ok to become F/L. I always admired Peter your flexibility and patience that you had with 'super-energy' George. What an odd âtwinâ brotherhood that blessed all of us. At the conferences I attend - you kept things going forward and yet kept a humor flowing even during the hard times. When you open the word â I did not want to miss a word you said. Peter, you have been blessing to me. Here is the song I made last year â reflecting Revelation 21:1-5 â New Heaven https://juhaniahola.bandcamp.com/track/new-heaven Juhani Ahola
The first memory I have of Peter Maiden was at the August 1999 De Bron Conference Centre in The Netherlands. Our family had just joined OM the previous year, and so I was not familiar with the leadership at that point. My first memory upon our arrival is of a man (Peter) tirelessly helping people with their luggage, taking the pieces from the bus t...

My memories include you moving suitcases to peopleâs rooms at one of the DeBron conferences, along with being one of the main speakers. Also how you included someone with a disability in activities in a great way at that conference. Later, just after I had moved to Carlisle to join the ICT office there was a problem with air quality in the office I...
Loraine Pinder-Browne Dear Peter & Win Greetings from Mosbach, Germany! I am so glad that I had the immense privilege to work with you for a number of years in Carlisle at OM International. I admire you both for your incredible servant hearts and love for those around you. I remember so well, the General Council conference in 2003 which we held at the Keswick Convention site and where you, Peter, took over the leadership of OM from George. My role was to organise the logistics of that massive event with 1700 people from around the OM World coming together to celebrate this occasion. I remember how we prayed and prayed and prayed for the weather to be good for the days of the conference and sure enough God answered our prayer. It was the hottest week that year! I also remember how the railways went on strike the night before we had to transport 1700 people back to airports around the country but once again, through much prayer, God came through for us. I always felt your support and care during those days of preparation and even though it was very hard work, I count it as such a blessing to have worked and served with you during those days. I attach a few photos of the clean-up which always make me laugh and also show what kind of person you are - your servant heart. So long... until we meet again in the place where we will worship the Lamb of God forever and ever and ever. Blessings
Rachel Page Dear Peter & Win, I have many memories of serving under your leadership at ICT Carlisle and was always blessed to see the International Director of OM doing some of the menial tasks like washing dishes. I loved hearing Peter preach at Hebron, Keswick and around OM. Most precious to me is your friendship and the Christmasâ in your home. I remember Peter dropping a bottle of oil needed for Christmas dinner as we were preparing to serve it and was surprised at the calm way in which both Peter & Win handled that in the moment. I remember joy - there is always joy & laughter with you around. Once I was staying in your home while you were away and took a phone call from a guy in prison who phoned from time to time to talk to Peter - you really care for those who are struggling. I know you both love your family dearly and I pray these are precious days for you all.
Dear Peter, reading your update and your words of farewell as you are preparing to move on into HIS presence I was very touched by your very clear faith, knowing about your salvation and still not neglecting your personal emotions, fears and concerns about your family. This is how I got to know you many many years ago - authentic as person and auth...
Scott Holland We first met Peter at the Turkey field retreat in Bursa in 2009. Peter and his wife brought us some Marmite. In return we gave them some Turkish Delight for friends back in Carlisle. Peter was an inspirational speaker and great encourager. Sadly, only one of our friends got the Turkish Delight. I just hope Peter and his wife and our friend Keith enjoyed the Turkish Delight.
Hans Van Baaren Dear Peter - Thank you for joyfully chairing and participating in so many memorable Ships leadership meetings - especially in launching the Logos Hope into ministry. Your gentle and wise words laced with humor have helped us through many a difficult situation whilst keeping Logos II and Doulos in ministry. Going through my files, I mostly have you captured in (endless) 'Ships Meetings' like the attached photo from Mark Knight in 2009. Thanks for playing such a key role in keeping us on course and getting the Logos Hope launched into ministry.
We'll never forget the role you both played in our family story on August 1st 2009. Can't wait to feast with you both around the banqueting table of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with many more God stories! Love to you both and to your whole family.

Julie Grasman Long days in meetings, that made you go sleep (of course jet lag played a part), however we were very encouraged that you came all the way from the UK to be in our OM Latin America leaders meeting in Ecuador many years ago. Thank you for coming alongside us in many ways, especially with your great speaking skills and bible teaching. You always connected individually with all the leaders. Very grateful for all your advices, big picture thinking and above all your humility. Alex and Julie Paniagua OM LAM.

Hi from Poland Peter =) I remembered very much when we met in Lee Abbey Devon when you came to minister for the community (guess was 2016). You spend some time with us and on your last day you sat down with every one to talk about how to grow in our faith. It was an amazing week =) Your heart as a pastor really touched me your care for people is...
Swee Gim Cheong Dear Peter & Win, Tears rolled down my cheeks as I read your latest update. Memories of you were my days on the IEC from 2006 â 2014 when you invited a few of us women to be on the IEC. I remember sitting in the room with you and all the men around the table at West Watch. I felt so small and overwhelmed, surrounded by the giants! But you and Win were so esteeming and made me feel so welcome. It was a privilege and honour to have served under your leadership. In all those years I had never heard a harsh or unkind word. You were always so full of grace and humility. You have modelled godly, servant leadership. If I were to name someone who resembles Jesus the most, it would be you Peter. Wye Choon describes you as like Apostle Paul. And Win, I treasure all the tea and coffee times with you when you took us ladies out in between our IEC meetings. The times of laughter and cheer we had together. Thank you Peter & Win for your lives.
So thankful for your advice and encouragement at the Keswick Ministries Influential Leadership course two years ago.
Erin Prior So many amazing memories to choose from but here are a few that have meant the world to me: -learning from your overwhelming, incredible dedication to God. Attempting to mirror your morning routine waking up on Christmas Eve at 7am to do a bible study with you. - our big family get together at Windermere jetty watching you and grandma sitting and laughing together on the lake, thanking God for such amazing loving grandparents and praying for a relationship like yours someday. -when you and grandma often came to York for a day trip to visit me, the multiple coffee stops, walks and chats. You are both more than grandparents to me, you are amazing friends. - the multiple IKEA trips, which I know you (not so secretly) hated haha. -doing the park run in Kendal together and watching you cross the finish line, being so proud to call you my very speedy grandad. -volunteering at Keswick convention, seeing you on the stage and telling people âTHATS MY GRANDADâ being amazed at the way God has worked through you and the amount of lives you have touched with Gods word!!
It was 17th October 1985 that i first met you when I had just joined OM and was asked to drive a truck load of books from Glasgow to Bromley, stopping in to visit you in Carlisle on route. Over the past 35 years i have so many special memories of you- Peter and Win. My time living in Carlisle and going to Hebron and getting to know Dan, Tim and Bec...
Gill Waller Wow Peter, can't believe I'm writing this, love you guys so much and can't put into words what you've meant to me. So many memories...you were the first person I met at the door of Hebron as a 19 year old longing to find a deeper understanding of Jesus. You've been with me through the highs and lows of life and it was an honour to support you as PA in OM but more precious to enjoy the close relationship with you and Win which far exceeds a friendship. I'm so glad we set up the diary committee which meant blocking out time for Win and making sure she could join you for more trips. We all had so much fun together and that has continued even though we live on opposite sides of the world. Here's a photo of that fab winter's day when we took the boat to that magical bird sanctuary and on the way you caught this fish within seconds!....a natural fisherman ...and not just fish! I'm not saying goodbye....you're about to become more alive than ever and we'll see you again and enjoy some 'out of this world times' with our Father! Thanks so much for everything, you know how important you've been, I promise I'll continue to love Win deeply and take every opportunity to spend special times with her, see you soon, Gill, Mart, Rach and Bethy x

Tim Maiden âSOON AND VERY SOON WE ARE GOING TO SEE THE KING.â Dear Praying Friends and Colleagues, Greetings in our Lord Jesus. For nine months with careful chemotherapy treatment, Iâve enjoyed reasonably good health and a very good year. Recently things have been going downhill extremely rapidly and yesterday I visited my oncologist once again. His news was exactly what I was expecting and that is that no further treatment is going to be helpful, therefore I have been moved to palliative care. He also made it clear that because of the severe deterioration in the liver, my time on this earth would be measured in weeks rather than months. âOf course,â he said, âthis is not a science, but that is my best guess as I look at your recent results.â Without being triumphalistic, I trust, I want to assure you that I have peace which is overwhelming. Itâs not the same, of course, when I think of Win, the children and the grandchildren. My heart breaks and my prayers are intense for them, that they will adjust to life without me. Itâs quite a prospect to be thinking that within a few weeks I may be with the One whom âhaving not seen, I loveâ. Itâs also an unbelievable prospect that very soon I may have no further struggle with the flesh, the world and the devil. Please pray that I make it through these weeks or months, which remain without being shipwrecked. Satan is a most subtle foe, as all of us know. Many of you have been friends and prayer and financial supporters for many years. Some of you 50 years and more. To my continuing astonishment, many of you assure me that you pray for me every day. What can I say, but thank you on behalf of Win and myself? The ministry which God has given us for these last 50 years would not have been possible without you. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. Iâm determined to live life to the full as long as I possibly can and looking forward to further time with family. One specific prayer request would be for my son, Dan. He lives with his family in Canada and, of course, wants to visit. Choosing the right time over the next few weeks, with his work and family responsibilities and with quarantine at both ends is a tough one. I donât think I will write another update, unless something dramatic occurs. God bless you and thank you sincerely for your love, support and prayers given over the years. I leave you with the verse that my granddaughter, Erin, sent to me when she heard the news. âFor I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.â (Rom 8:38-39) Your brother in Christ, Peter Maiden
Pamela Shaw An afternoon off during the ILM in Singapore in 1996. It was a privilege to have been his PA for a few years. He was the same man 24/7. A true saint! God bless.

I remember coming to the OM conference in the summers at Debron, and I don't know whose idea it was, but whenever we had a fun night, there would always be a Leaders skit, with you & George and I'm pretty sure Dale Rhoton and others. It used to be the highlight of the conference, also reminded me that you leaders were human...and funny! Love to y...
Hi Peter, prayed for you this week after receiving Georgeâs newsletter. Asking the Lord to grant you grace upon grace. âPrayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscles of Omnipotentâ (Spurgeon)
Dear Peter - there so many moments where you gave me value but also where you were an outstanding example of servant leadership to me here a few that I remember most clearly. At a go conference in Mosbach - i was still in Uzbekistan - we met in the corridor and you knew my name and said hello Andrea how are you and how is the work in Uzbekistan. I...
Peter, on Logos 2 I was really thrilled with the deepeness of the studies you shared with us on God's Word. May the Author of this unique love letter keep whispering to you at all times. The Bible is a treasure map where the treasure is Jesus Himself. Greetings and prayers from Brazil to you and all your family.
Dear Peter, I had the opportunity to see you and to heard you many times you visited Logos 2. Then in 2008 - 2009 I had the opportunity to meet you personally at Forest Hill in London when I was doing line up there for logos Hope. I will always remember your kind spirit and your Shepperds heart. For you 2 Corinthians 5:1
I remember telling my friends at school that my dad had two ships and a massive fleet of Ford Transits. I remember the mop game at Chiswick Street and 1 v 1 football in Trinity School playing fields. I remember you and I climbing Scafell Pike in a white-out, with pyjamas under my jeans for warmth and Wainwrightâs drawings as our only means of nav...
Peter, to this day, I still have no idea how you already knew who I was when I met you when OM met in Keswick. It showed you care for people. Many incuding myself have benefited from your teaching. That will endure. God has used you to speak into the the lives of many
I remembering meeting Peter in 1984 in Belgium at the Summer conference. SeĂĄn and I were just recently married, we have met on Doulos and we were there to recruit people for the summer campaign in Ireland. Peter spoke at one of the devotions on Psalm 42, the importance of talking to ourselves in hard times. âWhy are you downcast oh my soul?â. It st...
I donât remember exactly what year Peter came to Kabwe and the Love Africa conference. But I do remember a particular interaction with clarity. I had inherited a young leaders training event at the the last minute. I had done my preparation but spoke to Peter when we saw each other at the conference and I asked if he would be willing to do a sessi...

Fred and Karen Kay Perry Dear Peter and Win, How thankful we have been to minister with you in the OM family for so many years. It is difficult to recall specific memories but I believe the last time we were together was at a gathering in Egypt. I know we were also there at Keswick in England when you took over as the International Director of O.M. I felt like that was a little taste of heaven with so many of us gathered from around the world. Wonderful!! Oh, and I almost forgot, Many years ago when our kiddos were young, you invited us to stay in your lovely home in Carlisle. We had an amazing time in Edinburgh, Scotland during their August festival. Thank you once again. May the Lord continue to give you both Peace in this difficult time but amazing JOY to soon see Jesus 'face to face,' Peter. God has certainly 'Got You' also Win and His sufficiency will be there for you moment by moment. My heart, however, will be in pain with you dear sister. We Love you both, Fred and Kaen Kay
Wes Shah Days we shall never forget! The Shahs
My memories of Peter go back to 1966 when I was secretary to Keith Beckwith who also hailed from Carlisle and from Hebron. Keith used to write to the âMaiden brothersâ quite regularly so I was the one who typed up the letters. Then I guess Peter decided to join a summer programme, and again I managed to process his application to join OM Over...
Hello, Peter and Win - we met relatively recently through our mutual friend David Ost and the OM UK Board - At a time of massive change in 2016, I read Building on the Rock. I am a Child of God and will be eternally grateful for you bringing me back to who I am but more importantly whose I am . The LORD bless you and keep you both , Peter
Dearest Peter & Win. I thank God for your servant heart. I remember years ago, just before the start of the Keswick convention, which you were due to speak at, you popped down from the stage to say hello & speak to me. At the same time, Win was in the bookshop by the tent & was being so patient & kind to a difficult customer. You both are thought...
Wendy Ho I first met Peter Maiden at Pre Christmas camp in Seremban in 1980s. He was the resident speaker and I was one of the girl's team leader. I enjoyed his encouragement in the morning leaders' meeting and all his sermons. He is a very good bible teacher. I am very shy because many people went out to speak to him but I was unsure what I could talk to him about. His book "Take my silver" challenged me about stewardship and ministry. I joined OM in 1986 with FFA Coventry then OM France & Love Europe. I am in long term ministry in Southall since 1989 after volunteered in Logos II drydocking at Amsterdam for two weeks. The last few times I met him & Win were at Westiminister underground station during his summer holiday & farewell service to Logos II at Liverpool. He came and said hello and finding out how I was doing to my surprise. I respected and love the way how he walks & loves the Lord Jesus. Thank you Peter for setting an example for us to follow. God bless and give you quality & quantity time with your family. Farewell and we'll meet again in the heavenly shore. Shalom.
My Dear Brother Peter, Thank you for your call on Friday.... it was most kind of you to conjure the strength to call me for a few minutes, given the circumstances! ENVY It left me bereft initially as I was hoping for better news , but then I paused and reflected upon the fact , that should the Lord be calling you , then I âenvyâ you being called...
My earliest memory of you was when you commandeered my cot and I had to move into a bed. Iâve never really got over this. When you left the cot you had to join me in the bed which meant sleeping âtail to toeâ. This meant we slept at both ends of the bed - times were hard after the war. You may not be able to remember this but I assure you that itâ...
I first Peter Maiden speak on board the mv doulos in autumn 1978 in Swansea. With open arms the Good Lord will say â Well done good and faithful servant Peterâ. Till we meet again at heavenâs pearly gate
Meera Mahadevan Peter I am so thankful that our paths crossed. That I had the privilege of serving under your leadership. That season in my life remains a very precious memory. I learnt so much on servant leadership just by observing how you lived and led while in ICT Carlisle, 2005-2006. Peter, what amazed me about you was, in spite of your demanding schedule and load, you were always available and accessible. You never made me feel I was intruding on your time, anytime I had a question or needed to talk. I will always remember your humility and gentleness of spirit. Your humility humbled me. There was never a distance between you and the rest of us on the team. You truly lived and led by the "all are equal" and "every one matters" principle. You have been much in my thoughts and in my prayers since I first heard the news last year. I certainly look forward to seeing you again Peter .. in paradise .. If I can be a measure of the servant leader you were, that will be your legacy and my way of honouring your memory. With love from Malaysia
Thank you for the time, at Mrs Shahs birthday, when you told us about the garbage people of Cairo and the wonderful example they are of the love of Christ; He came to live amongst broken people and live in our messy world to show us the length He is prepared to go in His love for us. He was rich, yet for our sakes became poor. That short witness ha...
Peter I have had the pleasure of serving with you on the OM/STL board, Northumbria/International Christian College governing body, the Keswick Convention Council and the Thana Trust - all of this has been a very significant part of my life for which I thank you and our God. Dave McBride Dear Peter The first memory I have of you I think it was 1986 in Kathmandu, Nepal. You were in the country for meetings. Wayne & Shelagh Toews newborn daughter had just died and you officiated the funeral. I was always struck by how God centered and comforting that message was. It was an amazing ministry to all in the room. Your teaching is certainly a memorable trait of your ministry and even as I read your letters I can hear your voice! It seems small, but I learned how to chair meetings based on how you chaired many OM meetings I was in. You never let us get stuck but guided us forward. Your servant heart was seen by your eagerness to take the suitcases of new arrivals at the GO conference and help them to their room. A genuine humility pervades you. Your humor is legendary. ILMs and other conferences reflected the OM value of having fun. There are numerous skits I've seen you take part in, but I will never forget a conference at DeBron when you engaged in the spit that went around the world. So unexpected and so fun. You've left quite a legacy of humor, leadership, love, and wisdom. It is the depth of love for Jesus and the desire to know Him and be known by Him that stands above them all, and in fact, amplifies them all.
You have been a most faithful servant and an inspiring leader. Since we first met, all too briefly, in Leuven in Belgium in the summer of 1979 when I was having a year with OM/STL, you always remained an example of devoted ministry. Whilst my own career took a different direction in leadership of Colleges in the world of education, it has been a bl...
Dear Peter, I will be forever grateful for you, for the care and wisdom you showed when I was facing difficulties (I particularly remember the chat we had in the kitchen at Skiddaw St), you have been such a blessing and it has been an honour and incredible privilege to have been able to spend time with you over the years through the Convention. ...
Iris Satterly Dear Peter and Win, so many memories - mainly and ILM's and GO conferences. It was a joy to journey with you and I loved seeing you sit at ILM's like on this picture or often on the floor in the back not wanting to be the center of attention. I remember many years of you taking time to share with the Joshua Journey participants, dear Peter. After a long and exhausting conference you took time to invest in our young leaders - thank you! Win, the many good chats by the pool or when running past each other or for a drink after a long day (see second pic) will be remembered... Or hosting us when visiting in the summer of 2017 in your lovely home in Kendal. Praying and loving you and looking forward to being reunited on the other side. with our Love Iris and John
I remember the privilege I had of 'tag-teaming' with you on Logos II back in the Caribbean in 1996 during Sabbath Week. You were the Bible teacher/speaker and I served as the worship music leader with a team from the ship. Very special. Over the years, we also had discussions about familial tremors. I love your dry wit and hilarious understatemen...
ILM in Bangkok, 2010. We were transitioning over, leaving genuine relationships in one place at a time when it was not easy to know whom to trust. Minimal time, maximal impact! T...
Dear Peter I've always counted it a great privilege to spend time with you, to sit on Ships ministry boards with you, to wait in airport lounges with you; a great blessing to hear your bible exposition, to witness your gracious, unassuming, no nonsense, thorough commitment to serving the Lord you love. Thank you for that, brother! His grace is s...

Peter - so sorry to hear this news. What a wonderful idea to share memories now - and not when too late for you to participate. I just want to say thanks - for all that you are - and your life has accomplished. Little did I know- when serving you lunch at Auchenheath all these years ago - that it would lead to OM India and the life changing and ...
John Maiden For a city kid, being rowed into a lake and encouraged to jump in was probably the most exciting thing I had ever done. Just one of many great memories of spending time with you, uncle. When I was growing up, you were, despite your baldness, a very cool uncle. I can remember you driving up to the top of a multi-story car park, opening your boot, to get a signal on what emerged: a truly massive car phone. It was technology from the future. Even if it filled half the boot. You would, on the way back from extended Maiden family days out, jump out of the car 10 miles from home, give Auntie Win the wheel, and run home. Again...cool (a seed of aspiration was planted). Or dad would mention your travels abroad: âPeter is in Australiaâ, âPeter is in Indiaâ, âPeter is in Jamaicaâ, âPeter is in Aspatriaâ, or âwe canât tell you where Peter is....â To have an uncle who travelled the world, doing something for God, was, again, very cool. In the last four years I got to know you in a different way, not only as my uncle, but as a guide in Christ. The experience of spending many hours with you - discussing highs and lows - always with your time and patience, has been a gift. You have shown us what an âevangelicalâ (in the very best sense of the word) can be: conversionist and gracious; Biblicist and irenic; crucicentric but resurrection-minded ; activistic and always, always having time for anyone. A lover of Christ. With the fire of the Spirit in your heart. Thank you. Much love. John Maiden
Two memories stand out for me, Peter. One was a conversation in Zambia, just before you stepped down from leading OM and you asked me to consider taking on the leadership for a new project in OM. I was reluctant but eventually agreed. It turned out to be a life-changing experience. During that conversation, I also asked you what things you were gra...
When I met Peter at the Keswick convention in 2019 he was already ill and waiting for a visit to the hospital, but he still was interesting in me and my small writing career. He also preached a wonderful sermon that day. Thank you, Peter. Carol Purves
Around the time when Peter became the International director of OM he was in Mosbach for some meetings. I was cleaning up the room afterwards and had a tray full of dirty dishes in my hands. Peter and Tobias (our leader) were sitting at a lounge, when I passed by - still with the tray in my hands. I didn't want to disturb Peter and Tobias and tried...
About 20 years ago, in my early years with OM, I arrived at the GO Conference in the Netherlands. You carried my suitcase to my room. This image of "servant leadership" has stayed with me. Thank you, Peter.
Dear Peter and Win So many rich memories of your integrity, courage, faith, hope and love but the one that stands out at the moment is a conversation we had shortly after our family joined OM back in 1998 when you shared, if I recall correctly, a key scripture verse that meant so much in your personal walk with the Lord, Galations 4:7. 'So you are...
James Devenish Dear Peter and Win - how we will always remember you with much gratitude and love. Thank you for always being there for us, for your strategic wisdom, your friendship, your love for the gospel and your love for mission. I always remember one chat walking through Keswick when you turned to me and said: " James, when was the last time you heard a really good sermon on heaven? We don't preach about heaven enough." I realise now you have been living that sermon - will see you there. Much Love James and Jutta
Dearest Peter, I first met you at Capernwray a number of years ago and have heard you preach many times. I recently purchased a couple of your books and look forward to reading them. We met again a couple of years ago when you came to speak at Crescent mens weekend. I really enjoyed our brief time together as we travelled to and from and during th...
Tim Maiden Christmas 2019, all together thanks to a very generous friend
Peter, Iâm sure there are many people with stories to tell that you donât even know you have influenced them. For Andrew, it was a message on the Prodigal Son which you gave in March 1983. The closing song was âWhen I Survey the Wondrous Crossâ and that line âlove so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my allâ was his call to ministry. ...
Peter I remember our runs after work in Carlisle and we would often follow the river Eden. Most times heading west but once we went east and it was either climb a bank, dart along the hard shoulder of the M6 or go back the same way. You were mortified that I dragged you into that sinful act! I also remember being in the office and hearing you shout...
Peter, I first met you in 1976 at the Tweedy road office in Bromley, England, when I was the gofer for George Verwer. I was inspired by your passion to teach the word of God and admired how God was using such a young godly man to touch many lives all over the UK at that time! Years later, when George appointed you to be his associate and then to su...
Joel Prior Grandad I always have and always will look up to you as an inspiration and role model. You have been a very important figure in my life and taught me many lessons. You have helped me countless times and I can't thank you enough. You and Grandma are two very special people and things won't be the same without you. I must say, you couldn't have picked a worse time. Wish I could give you a man hug. I also wish we could play the mop game one last time for old time sake. Enjoy the next few weeks, make the most of them. You are THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEDGEND
You didnât know me at all but I appreciated your sermons so much when you preached at Tayside Christian Fellowship Perth.
Mike Stachura Peter, So many God-orchestrated leadership encounters! Dating back to the mid-70's after Jorie and I joined the LOGOS ship, the 2nd ship team, DOULOS, etc. etc. I was so grateful for your compassionate wisdom in times of real testing. You provided wise counsel to our ship leadership teams during our historic "2 ships together in Belfast", reminding us that we were part of a larger community than just the ships. You counseled me in one of my more major decisions later in '85 to stay with the DOULOS as one of the directors or become the leader of STL-UK. You walked with me in the spiritual warfare crisis that was challenging the USA Board and staff team, just as I had come in as the President of OM-USA. You and I drafted (and then, due to illness in Dan's life as he battled Chrone's disease) I ended up giving the Biblical basis of fund-raising talk at an early 90's ILM meeting, one of the many policy and organizational changes that you were so vital in coaching, guiding, and advancing. Your friendship as one of my most trusted counselors and leaders meant the world to me. I am forever grateful to the Lord for having been a part of your life and ministry, my brother. Til we gather together around the Throne, together with every tribe, nation, and tongue... In HIS love and Grace, Mike and Jorie Stachura
Peter, may you be greatly encouraged as you run towards the finish-line and know that many people around the world hold up your family to our Father who is full of compassion. Winter school, Capernwray Hall 1980 - sitting in a class at which you shared about the need for truck-drivers in India, I recall the first inklings of a call to leave my lan...
Dear Peter & Win, Sue & I have been so blessed for many years of knowing you both and having fellowship with you both, usually impromptu as our paths have crossed. You are both a great witness and lovely friends. Our hearts and our prayer are very much with you and the family in the days ahead. Peter, it is a long, long time since the Lord ordaine...
Dear Peter, I have mentioned it a few times, but when you were willing to pray for me over the phone for the role I would take on before I moved to the field, that meant a lot to me, and I believe one reason why I am where I am today is because of this prayer. Thank you! One memory I have of you is from the GO conference in Mosbach where you said...
Dear Peter and Win, I have loved reading the many messages that others have written to you -- as they are so similar to those that we have of you also. So full of humor (skits at OM conferences), your servant heart, your preaching and teaching and your commitment to the Lord through your whole life. I think of the word "integrity" when I think of...
I have had so many great memories of you Peter. Your Bible teaching was always an encouragement for me. Your servant leadership and humility was always an inspiration. Thank you for being a great example to Heather & I. Your memory for names was unbelievable, I was spurred with that. I always had the freedom to call you. You were always available t...
Dear Peter, Thank you for your faithfulness and personal interest in Elisabeth and I over many years. I well remember when I first lived on the Logos in the â70s how in the midst of your many responsibilities you would assure me of the regular prayers of the Carlisle prayer meeting. This really touched me. Enjoyed our mutual interest in running but...
Jonathan Lamb We are so grateful to you, Peter and Win, for your lovely friendship over so many years! We think there was an immediate affinity by virtue of the Cumbrian connection â Margaret is a fellow Cumbrian, and you kindly welcomed a southerner like Jonathan to join the party! Weâve also had much in common because we shared similar roots in being brought up in Brethren assemblies, amongst the Lordâs own people And we think we might have had very early contact at the Cumbrian Youth Camps at Bassenthwaite, when Margaret and I were students: we think Peter was speaking, and Jonathan was attempting to play the piano Then we have rejoiced in the fact that we have shared a vision for global mission â whether through OM or IFES or Langham. But probably our closest connections have arisen because of our work together at the Keswick Convention, and then through the wider activity within the Keswick movement in the UK and around the world. We have so appreciated this fellowship, Peter and Win! It has been hugely encouraging to have worked together in planning teams, always with a lovely sense of unity and shared vision. Then it has been a joy to work together in helping to run the Convention, whether sharing platforms or simply serving tea and coffee at early morning prayer meetings! Thank you for your companionship, good humour, patience, and wisdom! And as we have sought to develop the Keswick movement more widely, we have been really grateful for your willingness to travel around the UK, speaking at many small Keswick events in order to encourage them forward â so typical of your servant attitude in Christian ministry, which we very much appreciate. And it has been a great help to have advocates such as yourselves as we have tried to nurture the international fellowship of Conventions around the world. Thank you for your faithfulness in these areas too! At demanding times in our ministry, we have really appreciated your wise advice and prayeful support, and Jonathan has been specially grateful for those times when we have met in different parts of the country, sometimes with our friend Steve Brady, or with James and Jutta, for fellowship and mutual support. Thank you for your steady encouragement and prayerful solidarity! A while back we enjoyed a memorable trip with Wes and Carey, which gave us time to travel, to discuss, to relax and to visit some lovely places. Here is a photo taken at Chania, on Crete. And then we also attach a photo of your attempt to blend in with the Jewish worshippers in Jerusalem â your skull cap certainly fitted much better than Jonathanâs We are praying with and for you both every day, and we do so with concern for your present well-being, with gratitude for your wonderful friendship, teamwork and support, and with the certain hope of our fellowship extending into eternity, on that day when with you we will join together with Godâs people from every generation and from every corner of the globe! What a day that will be! Amen, even so, Come Lord Jesus! God bless you richly, Peter and Win. With much love, warmest gratitude and wishing you Godâs peace and sustaining grace, Jonathan and Margaret
Dear Win and Peter, Many are the memories that come to mind when I think of you! Sitting in a corner at the back end of a room, on the floor, during what has become knowns as the âIndiaâ ILM⌠passionate exposition of scripture in so many different contexts. Fun and laughter on informal occasions. I so appreciate your generosity of sharing your gif...
Well Peter, How to pick out individual memories from 45 years as colleagues and friends? Maybe the day you arranged to interview us on an evangelism team in south London. The boys on the team had grudgingly moved out of their bedroom to make room for a married couple and we were served cornflakes on flat plates! I donât remember much about the in...
Dear Peter, When I met you (and briefly, Win) in a Keswick teashop last summer, you were wearing a red t-shirt and commenting on the stairs. A few months earlier you had been running miles â now stairs represented a major effort. Driven, focussed and unsentimental, you were nonetheless unwavering in your determination to embark on your book project...
Dear Peter and Win My experience of you has been in the context of the Keswick Convention. There you have been over many years a powerful preacher on the main stage and the best compere of evening celebrations. But perhaps even more striking has been your willingness to serve out of the limelight: leading early morning prayer meetings, hosting the ...
Dear Peter, I grew up knowing you as my dadâs friend but have been blessed to get to know you personally as we served together at Keswick. You have always set a godly example in your integrity, passion for mission, and humility. One powerful memory was hearing you preach at Keswick one year. You had been going through such a difficult time but you ...
Simon Overend Peter â we first met in 2004 when you interviewed me for a job with Keswick Ministries. I am grateful that I can call you and Win friends; you are also a role-model; a rock; a child of God, and so much more. It has been a joy and privilege to work with you (and learn from you) during your time as Chairman of the Trustees of Keswick Ministries, and Chair of the Programme Committee. You have also assisted Win and her wonderful creche team with a great sense of love, service, and humility. You have always been supportive, including during some really challenging times. You always make time for people; are always encouraging, and also willing to wisely challenge when appropriate. You exude the fruit of the spirit. Peter, we often recall your amusing anecdotes, and the way you tell them; often self-deprecating, and never critical â have you heard the one about the pink blouse; yesterdayâs train that arrived before the next train; and the ladies whispering at the back of the church â âI wonder what Godâs going to do todayâ. A few photos from my first Keswick Convention on the staff team in 2005 typify the man we know and love â preaching the word and the Lord he loves; and turning his hand in true humility to cleaning the toilets â which you did with other members of the speaker team â all one in Christ Jesus. I believe you once said your favourite â nonbiblical â quote is Martin Lutherâs There are two days in my calendar: This day and that Day. You have truly sought to live everyday to the full and the service of our Lord. I always thank my God for you ⌠Simon Overend
Peter, we will be forever grateful for you and Win. For how you have lived faithfully loving and serving the Lord for so many years, for how you blessed and loved so many people and also of course for your wonderful family. Thank you for all you have done to encourage us to be who God created us to be and how you facilitated us serving in our gifts...
Hi Peter, I clearly remembered once you were at our MENA leaders' meeting in Jordan. You were the Speaker. Afterwards, you met me leaving, carrying a suitcase. You kindly wanted to help me. I asked a young brother who happened to be around to help me instead. Thank you for showing your humility in such a humble & practical way! A Chinese pastor ...
âRemember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.â (Hebrews 13:7) You are a mentor that I have never actually met! Since the time I joined OM 10 years ago I have often downloaded your sermons from Hebron church and other websites; I've also watched them on YouTube. They hav...
Peter, I love you and your wife. I have sent a video. Thanks for your faithfulness and bible teaching. I value it. I also remember the day I questioned you on why ICT was located in Carlisle. Praying for you and your family
David Greenlee Dear Peter [Pictures: at the Rhein River gorge near Flims, 2013; during your holiday at John and Iris's family's place] Our first connection, as far as I remember, was September 1982 in Leuven. Vera Zabramski and I used Kees Rosiesâ Osborne luggable computer to generate dozens of UK entry letters, all in your name, for OMers joining the year teams after the conference. At a summer campaign conference in the Netherlands in 1985 we had our first of dozens of long talks. I was interested in a role that was opening but felt that making my interest known would be taken as a disqualification. You disagreed and warmly encouraged me to express my interest. The move didnât materialize, but your personal influence in my life (not just from the podium) was rooted there. In January 1987 following the Logos shipwreck, it was with trepidation that I called you on Dale Rhotonâs and Mike Poynorâs instructionsâmore than onceâin the middle of your night about some urgent matter or other (âAsk the board to declare the ship a constructive total lossâ still rings in my memory). As I write this I imagine the cheerful voice with which you always answer a phone call. But, how did you manage to always be so cheerful, even when I had just awakened you at 2 a.m.? In the years following you helped Vreni and me move into the North Africa leadership, then invited me to work with you in a role I still carry 22 years and 4 countries later. You opened doors, made connections, proffered invitations, provided funding, offered BIG tasks (generally starting with âthis should only take a few hoursâŚâ), warmly commended, and when needed corrected. You were a model of godliness and a source of warm counsel. You trusted me and entrusted things to me, and you never broke my trust in you. And in all that, you enabled me to offer my best to OM and to the Lord. Perhaps you donât have a choice about these things, unlike Paul who, late in life, told the Philippians that somehow he did have a choice. We would rather you stick around a while longer! And when you go we will miss you deeply. But we rejoice because being with Christ will be your incredible gain, the incredible prize of the upward call, the resurrection, the reason Christ Jesus grabbed hold of you and you him (Philippians 2:22-26; 3:12-14). Peter, together with Win you have had a profound impact on me and I am deeply grateful. David Greenlee
Letter of memories for Peter and Win Maiden and for posting on their pages or blog 22:06:20 Dear Peter, June 2020 You have encouraged us over many years with truth from Godâs Word and applying it in a fresh and contemporary yet contemplative way and you have both been generous with your friendship. The first such occasion was when you ...
Dear Peter, although personally we have only met briefly at some of the Go Conferences in Mosbach (with me having the privilege of translating you into German :)) you had and still have a huge impact on my personal life with Christ as well as you had a huge impact on many many lives of our MDT students over these past 9 years here in Germany. Ever...
When I joined OM/STL in 1980, being a local Bromley boy, I always heard of this âPeter Maidenâ guy, usually via the weekly prayer meetings on Tweedy Road. My recollections of you are scant at best. I know that the OM, of those days, are different from now, or even in the mid-to-late 80s. That said, Peter, I am standing in solidarity with you. Why? ...
Three things that stand out for me in my experience with Peter: 1. OM was growing in the 90s. This came about because we opened up many new fields in the 80s. With the ministry and numerical growth came people-problems. There were leaders in OM calling for a moratorium to the expansion - âhow could we expand when we have so many problems alreadyâ....

Peter & Win My first recollection, I recall of you Peter, was when you assisted John Knight & Phil Widdison at the children's meetings on the Silloth Green in connection with The Cumberland Gospel Van Outreach. It must have been 1959/1960, your brother Brian, Eric Bouch, Ken Jones (he married Una Smith from Keswick,) myself Jack McCormick, and ...
I have known Peter for 50 years and have told him already that together with Professor John Lennox, he has been the most significant contributor, through our church tradition, in this generation, in my view. Three things that come to mind: 1. His brother Mike told me that he practiced preaching in the mirror in the bathroom when he was 14 years ...
I met you in 1980 in Belguim and you spoke real words of encouragement to me. I learnt later that you had recommended me to the leaders. Later I served on Logos with my wife Hilary and stood in as a Navigating office on the Doulos just to 'help between ports'. We later had our own ship the Redeemer. Your book on Discipleship had a real impact on m...
Lovely Peter, my big brother, You were pretty much the first brother in OM to âseeâ me! Decades ago when women better know their place..... invisible..... in ministry. I pretty much thought I must be wicked and rebellious to need more, but you saw me, made me feel valuable, recognised my heart longing..... and even understood my fears to speak up....
Dear Peter I will always treasure our times together.whether it was in Mosbach or DeBron. You always had 10-15 mins for me. At DeBron in 1992 my wife and I were at a crucial point in making some decisions. You helped us through the process. You even made some calls to other continents to help us. Without those phone calls we not would not have been ...
Peter, A friend a spiritual father to many and preacher and leader, I remember you when I was in OM Manchester England, You brought so much to us there, that was in the 70s And then as international leader ,you showed that you were no different that we are You worked hard to make feel welcome at all conferences, that we were special and valued, Th...
Dearest Peter and Win, Well, who would have thought you , Peter, would beat my Dad (Roger Kennedy) and me to the finish line?! I am reminded of a song we used to sing in Sunday School, which says âif you get there before I do, look out for me, for Iâm coming too!â What an encouragement you have been to so many people over your lives, and we are s...
Freddie and Debbie Berg Peter....where do we start with memories?? Both you and Win have played a huge part in our lives. We started coming to Hebron in 2003 where we were invited to do the Christianity Explored course. You were one of the leaders and God used you to explain the gospel to us in such a clear way that I, Freddie came to faith and I, Debbie rediscovered mine. As a result of this we decided to get married, without delay, and obviously wanted you to lead the ceremony!! You had some oversees travel commitments but we managed to organise a date, and in a matter of weeks we became Mr & Mrs!! 17 years ago now! At the time we lived 30 minutes away so you and Win very kindly gave us a key to your home so we could use it as a base before church activities to save us travelling too much. That was incredibly generous and just made us feel an extended part of your family. One of Freddie's favourite memories of you is when you came to see us both in the hospital panto. Upon Freddie's entrance to the stage dressed as the Dame, you burst into a laughter that could be heard around the entire theatre!! You then went on to baptise us both, Deb when she was pregnant with our first child Ben. Deb remembers you saying at the time, 'this is a first, I've never baptised one and a half before!', but you also went on to dedicate Ben a year later. We've since caught up with you both at Keswick most years. On a couple of occasions, where we were going through particularly challenging times, you made yourself available for a cuppa and have given wise advice, support and prayer that carried us through. Thank you Peter, for all you have been to Team Berg...we love you x
Dear Peter, We have so much to give the Lord thanks for you and Win - your passion for Jesus and the building of His global church, your consistent encouragement and wise counsel to us, your faithful and powerful preaching of Godâs Word, the ministries you have led or facilitated to be led which have been a tremendous blessing to us and so many ot...
Anna Putt Dearest Peter and Winn It is with such sadness and joy that I write this. Sadness at not being able to share any more of God's amazing works in this world with you, at you not being here to help guide and point us and so many to him. Sadness particularly for Winn unable to join you on your next big adventure just yet. Joy at the memories of you both. You have both been people I have looked up to for many years, such Godly examples of christian leadership, lives, marriage and service. Your humour and guiding hand has particularly helped when it came to hosting evening celebrations at the Keswick convention. I was so nervous at doing anything like that and your good humour and reassuring words put me at ease as you gently guided me through what was involved. It was also so helpful to see you get nervous before speaking and being willing to show your vulnerability and still serve has been a wonderful example to me. The great dinners we all shared in Green Gables will always be special, though I may be more likely to go with Winn's recommendations of the Grasmere gingerbread than Peter's routes for fell running! With warmest wishes Anna Putt
Peter...I remember you coming to Tayside Christian Fellowship in Perth in the early 1980's and we so appreciated your ministry. You stayed with my parents, Harry and Anne Pope, during your visit and they so enjoyed having your company...I remember my mother saying you were such an easy guest to please! You were a great source of encouragement to o...
Julie and Richard Beaumont Peter and Win, Joining OM in 1981 has shaped our lives to this very day - we would like to say a big Thankyou to you both. In our early twenties and babes in our faith journey doing our apprenticeship on MV Logos and Doulos- yourselves and other leaders modeled servant hood , the power of prayer and leadership. Hard lessons to learn but so thankful for the opportunity to be part of an amazing ministry. Thankyou also for your love, support and encouragement during the 12 years that we served OM in Australia . You are loved and very much appreciated.May you feel the warmth of Godâs comfort each day and enjoy his rich blessings. Our prayers are with you and your family. Enjoy the the pics I found xx much love, Julie , Richard, Matthew and Philip
You probably don't know me or remember me, but I remember you speaking at the September conferences. I was always inspired by the clarity and insight you gave from the Bible. So just to say thank you for your willingness and faithfulness to the Lord. May God continue to be your hope and encouragement. From Rebecca Chance
I first encountered Peter at a Down to Earth mission conference in Manchester in 1983 when I was a student. I joined OM in 1992 and over 12 years had the privilege of sitting under his teaching in Austria, on the Doulos and in the Middle East. He a fine man, a fine leader, and his teaching of the word of God has impacted my life for nearly 40 years...
Phil & Yvonne Halliwell Dearest Peter & Win, We have so many memories of you â stretching back years, like so many people who you have come into contact with and influenced during your life story. You are such a Godly couple and we have been so grateful for you, inspired by you and laterally, we have missed you. I (Yvonne) think back to my time in Newcastle â I attended the same church as your daughter â a strong Christian woman, and clearly her motherâs daughter :) So to come to Carlisle for my first job in 1995 and to happen to land at Hebron Evangelical Church on the night when you Peter were preaching about movements of the Holy Spirit bringing order not chaosâŚno coincidence. I had unanswered questions on that very topic and God used you Peter to speak to me and ultimately to keep us at Hebron and in Carlisle (I had intended to come to Carlisle for only a year!) I knew I was at a church where the gospel was central and Godâs Word was preached. That was a major factor in why we chose Hebron as our family. You led the Dedication Service for each of our children Peter â thank-you for your involvement in each (picture May 2010 â Lexiâs dedication) They are all growing in God and following Him (recent picture overlooking Keswick). Those dedication services were all special times for friends and family as we as parents stood before God and said we would do our best to bring them up in Him. And we keep trying! Parenting is one of the biggest privileges and biggest journeys in life. Thank-you Win for helping in creche â we have many happy memories of leaving our little lad in the secure arms of you and Daph â how precious those early days in his life were to have been nurtured by you two ladies. And I canât forget of course, that I had the pleasure of looking after your teeth for a number of years. It was always lovely to have a friendly face (and mouth) in my chair! Probably moreso for me than you! Your support of us both during our time as deacons is cherished â we remember many meetings and serving with Dan as our co-deacon. Thank-you for your encouragement when I led the church in worship through music. I remember you often chose the song âAll I once held dearâ â and the words are particularly meaningful at this time. âKnowing You Jesus, knowing You â there is no greater thing. Youâre my all, Youâre the best, Youâre my joy, my righteousness â and I love You Lord!â And when it comes to your gift of speaking â I have many notebooks of Peter sermons â from both Hebron and Keswick. A true gift â what a privilege to have learnt from you. And we have several of your books on our shelves. In fact, Aaron started reading Discipleship this week! Thank-you for using your gifts to the full whilst here on earth. We will miss you greatly Peter â and we have been praying hard for you in these last months. What a wonderful family you have and they will go on in Jesusâ Name to be a blessing to others. I lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earthâŚThe Lord is thy keeper; the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. Psalm 121 v 1,2,5 Much love until we meet again â Phil, Yvonne, Aaron, Kayla & Lexi Halliwell
Richard Woods Hi Peter. Thanks for everything. Ephesians 1:16-21 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Philipp & Jeske Eschbach Dear Peter, Quite a few memories pop up in our mind, but one is outstanding. It was on the weekend of 24th/25th of September 2011 in Linz, Austria. We were celebrating 50 years of OM ministries in Austria. You spoke both during our OM Austria anniversary on Saturday and gave a sermon to all the evangelical churches of the Linz area in the same hall just the day after. While staying with us as family for the two nights, you did grapple with some pressing OM issues. Nevertheless you took the time to play a game with our youngest son after the event. Although having huge responsibilities and being a âV.I.Pâ, you were (and are) always just so humble and caring for us. So on Sunday morning, before leaving to the big gathering of the Linz churches, you did not only take off the sheets from your bed, you also asked us for a simple plastic bag to carry your bible and sermon notes up to the pulpit... Thank you for your wonderful example of being such a committed, God fearing and most humble servant leader. You made a huge impact on us as a family! Be blessed, Philipp & Jeske Eschbach
Hi Peter I joined OM back in the dark ages at the year conference in New Malden. All the guys were sleeping in the back of the auditorium behind a large curtain (I think!) on arrival after registering you wandered around looking for a space to put your sleeping bag down and claim your spot. There was no socially distancing and space was at a premi...
Henry Coulter Peter, ever since I first met you in 1986 you have challenged me to walk closely with God. It is not just your teaching; your life and godly leadership have had an incredible influence in my and Joanne's life. We will not forget your visit to Bangladesh in 2009 and the way you took time to meet with the team individually, praying and encouraging them. Your humility and godliness continues to impact those who had the privilege of meeting you. The second photo is with Hira, who has just taken over leadership of the OM Bangladesh team. Henry
Dear Peter and Win Thank you for your positive influence on my life over many years since I joined OM in 1985, first as a leader and more recently as a friend to me. I have always appreciated and enjoyed your preaching and teaching. I was particularly struck by a sermon that you gave very recently in July 2018 on Discipleship at a church in Keswi...
Bill and I served with OM in the USA Office, Love Europe and the Doulos from 1987 to 1992. I don't believe we ever met but we certainly know of your leadership you gave to OM for many years. You are truly a Missions Stateman and we are so grateful for your years of service in Global Outreach. We volunteered with OM in our youth and feel it helped e...

Peter, I remember you firstly as Tim and Becca's Dad, during many an OM conference when we teens were undoubtedly up to no good. I also remember you coming to Almaty to a conference there and speaking to us on the book of James (which never fails to convict me!) and having a chance to chat over some fairly nasty Soviet sanatorium meals. Since then ...
Hello Peter an Win, A very good memory is of Peter seeking me out during a particularily difficult time to listen and encourage and of course your visit to our home in a major city in the ME. Alway with vision and grace exhorting us to move further in our walk with God and ministry in His name. Dear dear people. God be with you at this time.
Dear Peter and Win What a lovely idea of your family to give us opportunities to post some memories for you... I remember being impressed, Peter, when you responded to my prayer letter... it was 1988 and I felt my time in OM was coming to an end after 2 years in India and Bangladesh. But you challenged me to think of a long-term commitment... an...
Rebecca Barnhart I could repeat many of the wonderful, kind, true and honoring words said about Peter, but I want to focus on his funny side. Peter was involved in an elaborate practical joke played on me and included many in the OM family. To get it started, Peter and Win - yes, sweet, innocent, "Oh Petah" Win Maiden - entered into my Carlisle home while I was on a trip and removed 2 items, which were held captive. Clues and notes came in from friends around the world, and to my utter shock, it all pointed to Mr Peter Maiden as the culprit! I didn't believe it, even when Peter confessed. He then asked me if I was calling him a liar! The photo below is when Peter and Win returned the items! (Peter, I still believe Mr Mallon played a small part!) I visited the UK in August 2018 and had a short visit with Peter and Win, which I cherish. We had afternoon tea at Windermere and it was lovely, as always. Peter and Win, I love and treasure you both and so grateful the Lord led me to join ICT in 2008. Thank you for inviting me into your life, for your leadership and friendship, for the laughter, and for demonstrating integrity and faith in little and big ways. I know of few people who deserve to hear "well done, good and faithful servant," than you! Love and prayers from Kentucky. Becky Barnhart
Hi sir praise the lord this is Suresh from India I was in om from 2007-2016 and it was great experience for me
Dear Peter and Win Thank you for your friendship over these past years. It has been our privilege to journey with you and experience your love and support, true friends. You have walked the talk - inspirational role modelling in every way. Beautiful memories of a beautiful life. Philippians. Ch. 1 vs 3 & 4 Every time I think of you, I give thank...
Dear Peter and Wynn, It seems not so long ago that you were carrying our suitcases, and yet it was 32 years ago that we have this memory of you. It was on a cold January morning in 1988. We were headed for Papua New Guinea, the end of the earth as far as we knew. We were carrying all our clothes for the next 4 years in our suitcases and our home ...
Peter, thank you so much for your influence and encouragement to me. You inspired and encouraged me to follow the path of world mission, which I did and served for 7 years. I still have the passion burning in me. I remember you saying to me, âyou think youâve joined OM for two years, youâre here for life!â By the time I got to year six in a row I s...
Dear Peter & Win, My earliest memories of you are at Cumbria Christian Youth Camp, a crowded throng of youngsters who could raise the rafters of Braithwaite Memorial Hall, but would fall silent when Peter spoke. I'm know the messages you brought had a great impact on many of us and some of those 'youngsters' are now grandparents - including us. ...
Dear Peter and Win I just want to share how much you inpacted my life. Your clear teaching and communication, your great leaderhip style, but most of all your honesty, extremely high integrity and always being there to listen and support, making priorities that I could not understand how you made it, but I thank God and you for everything and pray ...
Eve Maiden I love you grandad so much and you never failed to be persuaded in to playing mini golf with međ! Yesterday I went round and you had your shirt back to front and inside out which reminded me of the time you came out of the caravan in Keswick asking if you looked alright because you were about to go on the big screens and the big tent but me and grandma just laughed because you were wearing grandmaâs pink blouse, we will never forget! The other day when I was on a walk with mum and Jonah, mum and me were struggling to get up into the cave at Rydal and I remembered you helping us up with some sort of rope and grandma stressing about it, which we all know is not a rare occasionđ. I just hope that despite all this corona virus business I can spend some good time with you because you never fail to make me smile talking talking about the hilarious experiences in Keswick or the dinghy and grandma fiasco. Lots of love Eve xoxo
Dear Peter, Thank you for coming over to our campsite during Keswick Convention 2018 when we had just been notified of our son's death in a climbing accident in the USA. It was a Wednesday early morning, and the Tuesday night in'the tent' including communion had been especially helpful and moving. You and our neighbours at the campsite were the fir...
Peter was on the OM summer outreach in 1968 in Requena, Province of Valencia, Spain. I had been sent to visit teams and see how people were doing. He was a soft-spoken, VERY slim, handsome guy ... maybe a little more hair? ! Little did I know how God would bless us all through Peter in the years following! For Cathy and me it has been so good to kn...
Peter Maiden I have tried to write this a few times. Peter, Win, Beks, Tim, Dan and wider family. My mind fills with so many wonderful memories of not only you Peter but your whole family. You have all had such a profound impact on my life in so many different ways. I canât remember the first time meeting team maiden. But encountering you all,...
We thank our dear Heavenly Father for you, Peter, and for Win. Back in 1995 when we lived on the Isle of Wight we had organised a weekend away for the teenagers from our church, staying on a farm and taking over a farmhouse belonging to dear friends at church. Then we heard that Peter had been invited to preach at our church the same weekend! With ...
Kate Gray I thought I would come and work for a year as your PA but it turned into 5 years which says something about how much I enjoyed working with you Peter! Working in the office next to you, I saw how much you were in demand. Team members would often ask if you were in and were keen to catch you for a quick chat, a timely decision, confidential advice etc. Your door was always open and you readily made yourself available. You carried your mobile 24/7 and whenever it rang promptly answered âPeter Maidenâ (Win was relieved when I arranged Bluetooth for your car!) I enjoyed typing your dictated letters as they were always clear and concise, as was your writing. I recall you receiving many speaking invitations and seldom did you decline (often offering an alternate date if you couldnât attend) - somehow Peter you fitted everything in! Occasionally I travelled with you and Win. You would offer to collect me and pick up my bags and pack them in the car. I have memories of you laden with luggage leading the way as we walked through airport terminals - Win and I in tow! You would often be humming a tune and always confident of what you were doing. I remember we nearly missed a flight on one occasion but you remained calm as always. When I think of you, I think of your family, as they are a big part of your life. If Win stopped by the office, it was quite possible a coffee down the street was on the cards. I remember Dan often calling in to see you too. You and Win welcomed me into your home and lives. You were always hospitable and generous and I have fond memories of going to your home after church for a Sunday roast, joining you down the street for a pizza and staying at your house for Christmas. One Christmas time, I remember you getting pinned by a Christmas tree twice your height as you dutifully followed Winâs directions trying to put it up (there was nothing you wouldnât do for Win!) A couple of years after returning to Australia, I got engaged (to another Peter!) and asked if you would take the wedding service. I thought it quite unlikely however both you and Win made the effort to travel all the way to Perth and it was very special to have you speak at our wedding. Thank you Peter (and Win) for your friendship. It has been a privilege to work with you and learn from you. You have served God faithfully and wholeheartedly with the gifts He has given you. God bless you Peter.
Harold Archer Harold and June Archer. Which memories to share from a close and very dear friendship which goes back over 50 years? We first met in the late sixties, as couples, via the very active Y.M.C.A. and local Christian contacts. This âphoto was taken as we (struggled?) to set up a camp somewhere in the Lake District in (I think) the early seventies. They show Peter being âsupportedâ as he demonstrated previously hidden practical skills with Win smiling broadly, and with possible unbelief? Happy times! The gift of children, changes in employment, places of residence and the growth of Peterâs ministry led to less contact between us but the depth of friendship remained and continued to blossom whenever we were able to visit each otherâs homes. On our return to Carlisle, and as our daughterâs grew, the obvious decision to join Hebron Church was made. The friendship we enjoyed with Win and Peter helped us settle into the fellowship and, in due course, his wisdom and guidance were invaluable when I was invited to join the Eldership. Despite his many responsibilities, very full schedules and intense preaching commitments he has ALWAYS found time to meet, discuss, counsel and advise those who seek his help and I include myself in that number! My constant prayer has been for his healing! That he can remain with us and continue to be a true friend. That his wisdom and knowledge can continue to be shared. Yet again however, his example teaches us so much. Not my will O Lord! Only Yours!
Peter, I count it a great privilege to have served with you at Keswick for the past nine years. You have been such an encouragement to me at various moments - from general chat at "Green Gables" to a kind word before or after preaching. Travelling with you by bus from Keswick to your former home in Carlisle, then enjoying your hospitality, also s...
Dear Peter & Win We have been so very moved by your testimony to God's faithfulness. We hold precious memories of Peter's dad that go back over 50 years It has been a joy to pray for you every day over the years We hope to continue to hold the family in prayer and are especially praying for Dan's potential visit. Your profound trust and peac...
Peter and Win, you have both been special people in my life for many years. It was a joy to be fellow Cumbrians, serving God together through the ministry of the Keswick Convention. We shared many joys, sorrows, heartaches and laughter. Peter, your willingness to serve the Lord Jesus in whatever way he opened up for you has been inspirational. In ...

Lily Maiden Grandad in his prime, he regretted getting it all cut off x
Dear Peter, I will be forever grateful for you, for the care and wisdom you showed when I was facing difficulties (I particularly remember the chat we had in the kitchen at Skiddaw St), you have been such a blessing and it has been an honour and incredible privilege to have been able to spend time with you over the years through the Convention. ...
Donald and Elspeth Mackay Dear Peter and Win Just saying your names brings back so many happy memories of both of you. On Donaldâs first visit to Hebron Evangelical Church in Carlisle when new to the city, he was welcomed by Peter and immediately asked to go to the pre-service prayer meeting! That was the start of our time as part of the Hebron family and we are still here 32 years later. We had the privilege of hearing you preach Godâs Word, being part of the church family and serving with you for so many of those years. As we chatted about memories of both of you, so many things came to mind: Peterâs Godly wisdom and humble servant leadership; the privilege of serving with you in church leadership; YP evenings at Chiswick Street with the roaring log fire; the grace both of you showed towards YP leaders when the Maiden children were injured or became ill at YP weekends away; Christmas Day mornings at church with quizzes and sweets; Win and Daph caring for our girls at creche; the joy of seeing your grandchildren and our children playing together at Keswick; your smiles, laughter and sense of mischief. Thank you for the example you have been to so many of us for so many years. You have been an exemplary example of what commitment to God, your family and to a local church family looks like. Till we meet again. Love Donald, Elspeth, Seona and Heather Mackay
Tracy Ann Shalom Peter and Win, Great Memories of having you in Israel 20 years ago in 2000 and in 2009. What a stamp you have left on my heart especially in 2009 when JG's father went HOME. You both parented us team well at that time. This special olive tree overlooks the 'old Jerusalem'. I look forwards to meeting you again in the New Jerusalem my dear brother. My favorite verse is Romans 8:28 "All things work together for good to those who love God" Blessings from Jerusalem, Tracy (deaf in IL)
My name is Jenny Beardsmore and I Just wanted to add my appreciation for all that Peter Maiden meant to me and my brother. Sadly my brother Mike Beardsmore, passed away on the 19th May 2020. His memories of Peter would have been extensive. They served together on the OM Board here in the UK and Internationally. He thought highly of Peter and Wi...
Well! Memories of Peter. Too many to count. It was 1983 or thereabouts. I went to an OM leadership conference in Digbeth. I got to the venue and Peter was there standing at the door, he said "Er⌠Janice Alsager college". I thought either I am unforgettable or he has an incredible memory. I still have my notes somewhere from that time. It was in ...
Dear Peter, So grateful for your ministry to us at Skovlunde Frikirke over many years. Your powerful preaching based simply on the Word has had profound impact on our lives. You are also an example to follow as a humble, yet great, leader in the Church. We wish you the best and blessings for your remaining time in this world. Love, Jeanette & Krist...
I first met Peter almost 20 years ago when he came to preach at St Nicholas church in Sevenoaks at the invitation of Angus Macleay, then recently arrived from Carlisle. Peterâs word spoke powerfully to me and , at the time I had just retired from my main career job at PwC, ; I asked Peter if I could help in any way. Almost before I could blink I fo...
Dear Peter and Win, I have thought and prayed for you so often since I heard about Peter's illness. I remember so well when Brian and I and our daughter Hazel were in Copenhagen for the official take over of Logos Hope. We were all in the ship's large lounge and Peter very graciously asked Brian to come to the front so he could pray for him. Bri...
Brian Maiden Here are some early photos to illustrate my previous memories. Peter before he removed me from my cot; as a football star in the back yard; when he had hair. Brian Maiden
I have always been amazed that God granted me the friendship of such a significant apostle as Peter. When I was Bishop of Carlisle Peter asked me to whom I was accountable and I returned the question. So we started to meet once a year for half a day for mutual accountability. I looked forward to and loved those days. Peter always went 'straight in'...
Peter & Win Psalm16: 11 ESV You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Trusting Him while life shall last Trusting Him till earth be past, Till His gracious advent call Trusting Jesus, that is all. refrain Trusting as the moments fly, Trusting as the days go by,...
Peter, we were first aware of the Maiden name when your father came to speak at a young people's event in the Town Hall in Galashiels then shortly after we moved to Carlisle from 1965/67 and found you, the teenager when we worshipped at Hebron Hall. We were very much aware of your teaching and OM Ministry but it was not until 1990/91 that we came ...
I like so many ,many others ,have lots of wonderful memories of Peter, and the years he was at Hebron. Great times of fellowship get together lunches ,fun days out, etc happy times but It was his gift of preaching and teaching the scriptures that helped my decision to follow the lord Jesus. I made that commitment at the carols by candlelight serv...
Heike & Tobias Schultz Dear Peter, dear Win, the above picture was probably taken 1997, when both of you visited us in Cairo. By then, we had lived about 9 years among the poor, âinvisibleâ to most in the OM world - and to get a visit from you as international leaders meant a lot to us. Later, others told us that you had talked about this visit as a big encouragement for you - and you most definitely encouraged us! Peter, we will remember you as a deeply humble leader whose words and life fit together in complete integrity. A powerful teacher of the Bible - and the reality of a life lived accordingly. We so much wish that when it is our time, we can live the last phase of our lives in such an honorable way as you do it! With deep respect and appreciation, Heike and Tobias
Hi Peter Our paths have crossed at various times over the years. You & Win being mission partners with St James (since the early OM days?), my time on the ship & now with Keswick Ministries. I remember one time whilst serving on the ship. You were on board for some meeting or other & had been asked to bring a parcel to me from home. A few ships ...
Daph, Dave, Jo & Anth Rudd Dear Peter & Win, Thirty plus years ago, we knew you both but had never met you, but God was about to change that in a big way: One Sunday evening in September 1989, my three children & myself very cautiously entered Hebron church as we were desperate to find a church that would welcome us so that our children could grow up with a Christian family. As you know, my Christian life had been non existant for a while, but for ten years I had been looking for a church that would welcome us. As we walked in that night, we were warmly welcomed by many but especially by Win and yourself. Dave followed after you and the elders sent a warm and loving letter to him, & our family felt secure & loved as we found our spiritual home. To cut a long story short, we spent the next thirty years there. Win and I immediately became inseperable and spent many happy hours together when both you, Peter, and Dave were away working. We could write a book about Cumbrian coffee shops!! I started helping you and Win in your Hebron Om office then sometime later at the offices in Lonsdale st. This led to Anth and I helping at Debron in the creche. Peter & Win, in all honesty, you have both been there for us, through trial, through sadness, & through the happy times. Jo & Anth look on you as their second Mum & Dad. The joy we have of so many happy times, like the time you baptized our three children, the family weddings, or our keswick holiday at the convention for twenty five years, usually side by side, the fish and chip suppers in the Kingfisher chippy, the birthday celebrations with the children. We could go on but needless to say, we all love you both & your wonderful family to the moon and back. Peter, We're not going to talk about what's on our hearts but just to say, we will be there for Win whenever she needs us, & (even when she doesn't). You have a wonderful family who will care for their mum like no other could. Be proud Peter & Win, of Tim, Becks, Dan & families. They're walking close to God & the love for you both, shines out from them. I've added some photos to remind you of the time you spent helping our Dan. He loves you both so much. Dear Peter, if we dont see you before Glory, we will certainly be praying for you and Win, that you will know the love that only He can give. Rest in Him, rest in His love & know that He will never leave you Until we see Him face to face in glory Our heartfelt love for you all in Jesus name Daph, Dave, Jo & Anth xxxxx
Dear Peter, remembering you I think of your thorough bible teaching. I always enjoyed it. I loved your intention to help me to understand and love Gods word. I also loved your book "Discipleship" and gained a lot out of it. May our faithful Lord strengthen you and your whole family during your hardship these days. Thanks for leading, caring and su...
Peter (and Winifred, of course!) Not only bonded in Christ but ârelatedâ by marriage (younger son/younger daughter). And we share four delightful (most of the time!) granddaughters, living in beautiful BC. One very good, Divine reason why we moved to Cumbria, Carlisle (even Dalston) in particular, way back in 1988, when the aforementioned daughter...
Dear Peter Barbara and I and our family will be eternally grateful to the Lord for the blessings received through your ministry over the years. We have always been struck by your Graciousness, Godliness and humility. You have encouraged our family in their walk with the LORD. No matter how busy you were you always had time to listen as we shared ...
Dear Peter, I had the privilege to meet you at different occasions. Mostly it was work related. But I want to say that I enjoyed listening to you. Your teaching always inspired me. A huge thank you for Inspiring me. Praying for you and your Family
Dear Peter & Win I always remember you and Win at the DeBron or January Conferences. Peter, the powerful way you preached and taught the word of God has always been such a blessing to me. After the Logos accident in 1988 I was asked to join the, then called, North Africa Team, and I remember you visiting the team there and helping the team dealin...
Pam Wilson Dear Peter and Win, Well, most of my photos are in a country I can't enter, so this one from my laptop will have to do! It serves as a reminder of many enjoyable IEC meetings and also those less enjoyable as we wrestled with some very serious issues in those days. In each one, you led with godliness, grace and courage. You were always so inclusive of those of us who were new to the IEC and gave equal weight and consideration of all of our views. But far more important to me has been the friendship with you and Win, times visiting your home or trailer, cups of tea and times of laughter. I remember 2003 when Peter, Rodney and I were the committee to organise the event at Keswick, but I was diagnosed myself with cancer shortly beforehand and could not attend. You had so many people - even the entire conference - praying for me. I'm grateful for your prayers and have been committed to intercede for you this past year - and will keep on doing it! Your times are in His hands. And until then, good on Tim for giving us this opportunity to tell you now how much we love you and assure you of the eternal impact of your lives. I believe you will hear what I long to hear: "Well done, Peter, my good and faithful servant! I've been able to do everything I wanted to do through your life." With much love, Pam (and Dave, too)
Dear Peter and Win, Susan and I give thanks to God for your life and the fine spiritual example you have been to us. Along with the spiritual discipline you have taught us such as praying, fasting, caring, living out OMâs core values and preserving the integrity of the Scripture, I have also learned to embrace fun as part of my leadership journe...
Dear Peter and Win, From the first time I came to your house as one of Danâs friends to the times when we had no where else to go on a Sunday night as teens and ended up once more at 16 Chiswick Street. I was always made to feel very welcome in your home for which I am grateful. Peter, I remember you were very enthusiastic when me and some others...
Dear Peter & Win and family, Johannes and I are praying for you as we have been for years, long before the illness. We are praying for Godâs grace to be sufficient, healing would be our first choice, but we leave everything in Godâs almighty hands. We are thankful for all that you have taught us from the Bible. The lesson that stands out was when ...
Rosa-Maria Meister Dear Peter, it has always been a special privilege to sit at your feet and listen how you opened the word of God all these years. Two outstanding occasions are still so vivid in my memory. At my first retreat in the AP you shared about Revelation. You encouraged us to lean back and look at the whole book like we would sit in a 3D-cinema. This is what I still try to do up to today â Thank you! The other one was that I had prayed for time of restoration. I needed refreshment on body, spirit, and soul. Friends had invited me for the first time (and guess only one) down to Australia. What a GOD we have â I know I cried and was so overwhelmed when I heard that you will teach at Belgrave Heights Convention. I could not have imagined a better teacher for me in that season. I really came out of the desert and you shared the LIVING WATER so touching and refreshing. A big THANK you again!!! You, dear Win and your family are in my prayers. With Love, Rosa-Maria Meister
Becky Prior What a guy so loving to everyone in the family and so happy to have so many good memories with u along the way! One of them being Old Hartley, trying to park the caravan on the steep slope then going out to watch the birds I loved how much u knew about them and how amazing they looked flying over the sea. How humble, giving up your retirement money to go to Disney land Paris. Going on the tower of terror and space mountain, crazy! THE MOP GAME! Seeing us all scattering round the big Carlisle house chasing us with a mop (what a game) But I will always remember yesterday you saying to me âdonât get cancer unless you have tooâ keeping your humour and compassion thank you so much love ya always Faith xx
Greetings from Carlisle - Allan Cameron I have been looking at some of the posts for Peter and would like to add a topic that hasn't been covered yet - Peter's ability as a footballer. In 1969 Peter played for a season in the local district league and I soon realised he was a bit different to others - no swearing, no cheating then I found out he wa...
Dear Peter When we remember you, there is firstly great joy and secondly a huge amount of gratitude. When I moved to Carlisle aged 14 it was a difficult experience for a whole variety of reasons. Becky soon befriended me through our church connection and, thanks to you, Win and Becky, your home became a second home to me. Too many sleepovers to r...
Steven Braithwaite "I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints..." Dear Peter and Win, and the whole family, I don't use social media very much, nor am I a prolific selfie-taker, but I'm glad I took this picture of you and I Peter. You and Win were in Perth WA for an OM dinner event on 23 November 2011. Sarah and I ended up on a table with you both. It was a real joy to spend a little time with you both then. Legacy is an overly used word these days, but it is appropriate and true to say that you have created a Godly legacy in me, and Sarah, and our family. Praying for me at my baptism. Serving with you as an elder and experiencing the God-given wisdom with which you led. Despite the international nature of your work with OM, the local church was always a priority - even regularly speaking at Hesket Newmarket! Your marriage and how you both worked out life together, as a biblical demonstration of God's plan for this momentary marriage. I know that those at TCF will always be grateful for your faithful support over the years. Thank you. Philippians 1 typifies your approach to life and to service for God; To Live is Christ. "for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." We continue to remember you in our prayers. That you would be spared of pain, for His peace, for special times together. Grace and peace to you all. Steve, Sarah, Hanna, Mairi & Xanthe XXxxx
Dear Peter and Win, A special memory of Peter and Win took place when they visited Kathy and I and the OM team in Costa Rica around 2007. Peter took in several meetings, we visited a rain forest and of course toast and tea in the evenings. Peter greatly affirmed the ministry in Central America and that was special after many years of laying the ...
Lily Maiden The best times â¤ď¸
kate Register Hi Peter and Win, Both Kate and I carry extremely fond memories of our times with you both; and Peter â for me (Jonathan) it was a great joy working with you over so many years. We very much appreciate your wisdom, your friendship, times of laughter, times of support, and times of prayer. I remember working out that you both enjoyed a little G&T and, when appropriate, from then on we would make sure to bring tonic water, a small bottle of gin and a lemon so refreshments were available as needed. Special memories include 3 amazing days together at Hua Hin before an ILM in Bangkok at an amazing resort with private swimming pools at each unit, long walks and talks down the beach. I (Jonathan) remember the first time I visited your home in Carlisle to talk about doing ILM together, being amazed at how relaxed and calm you always seemed to be. I remember the year you gave me a massive garland of flowers publicly for running the ILM and the year you gave me the book on âHow to Organise a Conferenceâ. Hilarious. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip you both did to Australia, and poor Win got soooo sick and we had to fly from city to city, carrying âthrow-up bagsâ kindly provided by the airline. And more recently, we remember breakfasts with you both in the beautiful conservatory at the back of the house with all the glass, visiting the static, going for long walks by beautiful Lake Windermere, collecting the glasses I left at the pub, good food, good fellowship and talking about life, family and all that has gone on. Win thought it so funny that we were planning a visit to Port Patrick â a very much overlooked âmust-visitâ in Scotland! It was so much fun having New Yearâs Eve with just you Peter, and the God Squad as we played truant from a conference⌠It has been a wonderful privilege to have been a small part of your lives and we have loved every minute of our friendship. On 18th June, I celebrated 13 years since my oesophagectomy. We well recall your care and concern and when you all prayed for me (Jonathan) at ILM in South Africa. Our times together have been too few, but we wanted you to know how very much we respect you and how much joy you have brought to our lives. With much love to you both, Jonathan and Kate
Dearest peter and Win , I have known you both for as long as I remember from a little child . Always happy memories of carol services and gospel meetings . One time I remember embarrassingly asking if I could sing the Holy City at the evening service. You very graciously said yes (eventually) . So I did and I also burst into song with this in He...
Dear Win and Family, Peter was a guest speaker at a major event in Sudan, where we lived. At the last moment, the pre-arranged living quarters fell through, and we prepared a place for Peter and his friend in our, at the best of times disorganized and difficult to keep clean house, which was also filled with four active kids. Peter proved to ...
My first memory of Peter was in 1967. I had just come back from India and George Verwer asked me to lead the summer crusade in Spain. 100 young people joined the team for that summer in Spain and on the way down from Belgium to Spain we had a stop in Bordeaux, France on a Sunday where we had the breaking of bread and a time of worship. On that team...
We have so many memories of Peter. We first met him when we were students at the Bible Training Institute, when he encouraged us to fan the missions flame. Then there was an OM weekend conference at Kilcreggan in 1979. There are many memories of his amazing ability as chairman, when he would conjure consensus out of seeming deadlock. Probably t...
Anne Marit Viljoen Dear friends, We have many good memories from working with Peter in the OM International office on Lonsdale street in Carlisle, as well as listening to his great Bible teaching at OM conferences. Most of all, we appreciate your friendship. When we stayed in Seoul, South Korea for two years (1998-2000), you two came to visit the team and Peter was to preach in the SaRang church. To us, it was like a visit from home and we just loved seeing you again. With great joy (?!) Peter and Win took some dried octopus and other snacks back to the team in Carlisle. Somehow, we later learned that the squid was hung outside of the window in the office and Win had to air out her suitcase for a week đ With all our love, Alwyn & Anne Marit Viljoen
Dear Wim & Family, We celebrate Peter's life, a man after God's heart. We treasure the lessons we learned from his life, his caring heart, his deep understanding of the Word of God and how he lived it out. Serving with him was a joy. May the Lord carry you in his arms, comfort you and give you strength. We hold you in prayer. In much love, Robe...
Iâve just been reminded by my dad of a time around 42 years ago When Peter had gone to my grandma and grandads house at Newlands, Hesket Newmarket to take a meeting which mum and dad coincidentally lived next to. Anyway, during the evening dad and his brother William decided it would be fun to attach a small car trailer to Peters car, thinking he w...
Hi Peter, I will remember you as a man who saw well into the future. Touring Australia around 2010, the messages that you gave were spot on in terms of the way the world of missions has developed. A few years ago I wrote to you regarding a few things that I was dealing with - I appreciated the quick and thoughtful response, and time taken to car...
Dear Win and family, I have always admired Peterâs sermons in big OM conferences and in our team devotions at the OM International Office in Lonsdale Street in Carlisle. I regard him as a great Bible expositor. When I got transferred to Carlisle from Zaventem, I was asked to lead the team devotions in my first week at the office. I agreed but on ...
Dear Win and family Peter was an exceptional man: A bible man. Willing to challenge the status quo and to be challenged in his own opinions by the word of God. Servant leadership was not just a mere word for him but something he lived and breathed. Taking OM from a pioneering phase into a consolidated phase â ready to endeavour further growth. Givi...
I first met Peter Maiden in the summer of 1981 in Leuven, Belgium in one of the OM Conferences. I was very impressed with the way he faithfully handled God's Word and taught it to us with such clarity, simplicity and depth. Our paths would cross many times after that in many OM conferences. It was through Peter Maiden's encouragement that I took th...

I feel extremely privileged to have had the chance to work under Peter's leadership in 2009-2010 at ICT in Carlisle. I will always cherish the team prayer times that he led, and his humility and down-to-earth nature. A true man of God, always concerned that OMers would live holy lives. Thank you, Peter, for the impact you had on me so many others. ...

Ben went with Peter and...

Peter was a godly influence on our lives and his visits to us on the field were so enjoyable! His teaching, his humor, and his approachability are what stand out to us. Our hearts go out to the Maiden family as they trust the Lord now for life in his absence - but only for a short time. May God's strength and grace surround you.
