Michael Clarke Duncan was an American actor who passed away at the age of 54 due to a heart attack. He was best known for his fantastic character of John Coffey in "The Green Mile" for which he was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. He was a bodyguard to the stars before he became a star himself. Born 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, he started studying communications at Alcorn State University from 1975 to 1977. Duncan first came to prominence when he was cast as Bear in the blockbuster film "Armageddon" in 1998. He got his breakout role as gentle giant John Coffey in the film "The Green Mile." Duncan's acclaimed performance netted him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and a Golden Globe nomination.
