Stacey Jessiman Megan loved our "Grammy" (our mother's mother) so much. And it was mutual. Grammy was brilliant, unconventional, affectionate and tons of fun. Megan and I loved sleeping over at Grammy's (though actually we often did that separately). It was magical being able to sleep with her in her canopy bed with her cat at her feet, or out in her big bed at the farm. She fed us porridge in the alcove table in the mornings, and we watched Jeopardy with her at night, with our dinner on tv table trays in the den. She taught us how to play cribbage, made us peanut butter cookies and popovers, and she had the most marvelous cookie jar/candy dish in her alcove shelves. Her whole house, with its artist studio in the attic and 1950s party room in the basement, was magical. Grammy adored Megan, and I'm comforted to know they are now together, laughing and watching Jeopardy and calling out all the answers together.

Stacey Jessiman This is my protective and loving older sister Megan when we were growing up. She held my hand when I was scared, was my role model and idol in academics and in every sport (she did them all well), and in our wonderful pre-computer childhood we played endless games of cards and scrabble during electricity-free summers in Sioux Narrows, we read boxes full of books, sailed, water-skied behind the boat from Sioux Narrows to Kenora, swam around our island together, and planned and went on picnics. In the winters we went to Mt Agassiz and sang Kenny Rogers while taking the t-bar, went to the old movie house in McCreary with our friends on Saturday nights, and on New Years Eve ate the candy we'd hoarded since Hallowe'en (we were bribed not to eat candy but got an exemption on New Years Eve). It was a magical childhood in many ways, and I was lucky to share it with someone so inspiring, and smart, and fun. I miss you, Meges.

Janet Burrell When I began dating Megan’s Uncle Matt, one of the loveliest perks was getting to know this enchanting little girl. We chatted endlessly about life as she saw it, read stories together, such that she simply had to be my littlest bridesmaid at our wedding.

Stacey Jessiman During the early 80s, Megan and I attended high school and middle school, respectively. She was so smart, good at sports, well-liked and respected by her teachers and peers, and an amazing role model. Whatever our older siblings do is our normal, and thanks to my incredibly conscientious and hard-working sister, I developed good work habits, loved studying like she did and threw myself into sports. She taught me about computer coding, and we learned to type and did speed typing competitions on our new apple computer. We watched Dallas and Dynasty, went to family Christmas balls, and played games during spring break car trips to Palm Springs. She was fiercely competitive in all board and card games, but in the outside world was always looking out for me and advising me. Megan was such fun. Her friends were smart and nice to me, and she threw the absolute best parties at our house in high school. When she went to college in the fall of 1983, I inherited her car but I lost my lighthouse, and when I started at high school, I had big shoes to fill. And home just wasn't the same.

Stacey Jessiman The 90s were busy years. Megan got married, and she and Will came to see me graduate from Stanford in 1991. Megan gave me an inscribed copy of 'Oh The Places You'll Go' as a graduation gift and I still have it always close to me. Megan then attended Yale Divinity School and I have lots of happy memories of visiting her there and staying with her in her home in Litchfield, CT. Katharine was born in 1995, and Megan threw herself into her role as super mom, but still found time to call and visit me while I was at law school in Toronto. She and Will were there when I graduated from University of Toronto Law School in 1996 too. I moved to New York to be near her, and managed to find an apartment so close I could see her bedroom window from my guest room. I was working long hours at Debevoise & Plimpton, but loved taking breaks for time with Meges and Katharine (who opened a coffee shop in her crib for me and offered me free advice on where to buy new shoes), and, of course, for trips to Tar-jay. I also joined her golf club on Long Island, Piping Rock, during the summers, so that we could spend time out there together. Megan was now doing her PhD at Columbia and studying hard but somehow found time to host amazing parties in her apartment on Park Avenue at 92 st (my favorite was always dinner with the Posners at Christmas). All the while, Katharine's wonderful nanny Nesta was a joyful and loving presence in the home. They were busy years, but there were lots of happy times.

Stacey Jessiman This photo (shared with me by cousin Stew Searle) was taken at Christmas 1990. The Jessimans used to have a wonderful annual Christmas party, often held at Aunty Maudie and Uncle Stew's home in Tuxedo. Megan and I loved those parties so much. When our Scottish grandfather Peter Jessiman was alive (he passed away when I was 16) he would stand up and sing and I found that magical. There were always lots of toasts too -- our father could give toasts for hours. We have lost several Jessiman family members since then - including our Aunty Maudie, Uncle Stew, cousin Jane Searle, Uncle Bill Treidler, Uncle Bill Jessiman, and now Megan, but they are in our hearts and memories always. All our Jessiman-family aunts and uncles were always so nice to us -- and I'm comforted to know they are all together in Heaven now.

Janet Burrell Adoration! The arrival of Katharine was Megan’s touchstone moment. I remember Megan discussing why she had chosen that particular spelling, Katharine with a second β€œa” , as her daughter’s name. To her it denoted strength, like Katharine Graham and Katharine Hepburn. Megan always had an airtight case!

Stacey Jessiman The first decade of the 21st century brought lots of changes. I moved to Paris in 2001, married a Frenchman, Geoffroy, and had two children, AliΓ©nor and Pierre. So I saw less of Megan sadly, but we came back and spent several Christmases with her and family in Megan's NY apartment. The first photo is taken at Christmas in 2005 and the second group photo is taken at Christmas in 2008 when Pierre was about 20 months old. I remember Megan and Katharine gave Pierre a big stuffed horse (he was nuts about horses) and he absolutely loved it. Megan also let Katharine come stay with us in Paris and take a cooking course for part of the summer in 2008, and we all had a fun time. And we met up in England for cousin Maggie's wedding.

Stacey Jessiman This Christmas photo from December 2010 is one of the few group photos of our family between 2010 and 2015, in part because just after this photo was taken Pierre was diagnosed with two life threatening conditions - Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and an aggressive form of a cholesteatoma that required 6 surgeries to remove - and we had to limit our flying for over five years until MRIs showed no recurrence of the cholesteatoma. My little family and I also moved to California during that period, so we were taking trains or driving to BC or Manitoba to see family. Those were scary, hard years.

On that night I had the chance to take a page out of Megan's 'playbook' and do something she taught me years earlier, which was to tell everyone gathered why they meant so much to me. It's something I'll always treasure about the way she loved on her friends. Here she is pictured with Columbia med school classmate Jared Kushner.

Stacey Jessiman This photo from March 2015 has lots of happy memories associated with it. I hadn't seen Megan in several years, and I really loved staying with her at her home in Palm Springs, getting ready for cousin Whitney's wedding together, and catching up on news. My father was still well enough to dance with us, and my son had just had a clear MRI - no more disease. And my kids could see their aunt. So there was lots to celebrate. This is the last time I saw my sister before she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. I cherish these memories.

Chris Lawton Megan never missed the chance to celebrate others, often creating those opportunities herself, as so many of us know. Here she is with our friend Jared at a celebration when I was finishing residency. On this night, Megan had been running all over the city finishing some projects for the house on 139th. She wasn't sure she'd make it to dinner, but she got there in time for dessert :)

Adam Critchfield Residency graduation in 2015. Megan became one of my dearest friends as we were lucky enough to go through psychiatry residency together from 2011 to 2015. I got to see up close the endless compassion, dedication and enthusiasm she brought to learning and caring for patients. I carry her with me every day I get to work as a psychiatrist.

Chris Lawton For almost a year, from fall 2015 on, Megan kindly invited me to rent a room from her at the townhouse she was renovating in Harlem. Though I had crashed at the 92nd St house many times when working in Midtown, it was our first time as 'roommates' - we had some great conversations, laughs and quality time together in those months. I am overjoyed Katharine is making that the home Megan always hoped it could be

My wife, Lacy, and I (Grey - Megan's cousin on her mother's side) were visiting New York and I had called Megan to see if she might be available to meet up and visit. Megan kindly made the time to play host. I got to reconnect with Megan as we had not seen each other in several years; while she and Lacy got to meet each other. Among other things, we met up at one of Megan's favorite haunts, Friedman's, on Amsterdam Avenue for a few meals, visited the Met, toured the city in Megan's smart car, and we got to see Megan's townhouse. Megan was always cool, calm, and collected. She was a most gracious host. It was wonderful to see her, and I so appreciated her taking the time out of her busy schedule to visit.

Diana Dangoor My favorite memories of Megan were at Brown, where she seamlessly blended into College Hill. Here she joined Katharine, Brigitte, and I in watching the Brown vs. Princeton football game. It also started to rain during this game, but in classic Megan fashion, she was unbothered by the storm and kept having fun. Although it was disappointing to see Brown lose, it was special to see Megan's alma mater win 53-0.

Stacey Jessiman These photos bring back so many happy memories. In November 2019 I drove down to Seattle to pick up Megan and bring her back to Victoria for a visit with me and my parents. We had so much fun together that trip. Megan could still speak fluently then, and we talked and laughed and reminisced about our childhood, and each night I'd help her shower and would tuck her in and she would tell me she loved me. She was so full of joy, just like when we were young, and because her short term memory wasn't working well, and I was living in a rental home with water views, every time she'd come onto my top floor she'd exclaim, OH WOW! I love your home!!! - as if it was the first time she'd seen it. I had longterm friends of hers over, including Shannon Hill (seen in one of the photos) and her good friend from SMUS Andreas Thatcher. At the end, Megan didn't want to leave, and asked me to please make sure we would do this again soon, and made me promise to stay in touch regularly, which my parents and I did by Facetime. It was a wonderful visit, and sadly the last time we would all be together as a family. It was already challenging for Megan to travel, and our father, who was already ill with dementia, also completely stopped being able to travel. But I will keep the memories of this trip in my heart forever.

Diana Dangoor This photo was taken when Brigitte and I flew to Palm Springs to visit Megan and Katharine. I loved every second of the trip. From eating pancakes together at the house to grocery shopping together and going to the outlets for amazing shopping. One of my favorite memories from the trip was when it suddenly started torrentially pouring at the outdoor mall. Instead of putting a damper on our trip, the rain made it more fun. Katharine and Megan put on matching turquoise raincoats and walked arm-in-arm through the rain. This was the last time I was able to spend time with Megan before COVID hit, just weeks afterward.

10 Mar 2020Palm Springs, CA, United States

Chris Lawton In the spring of 2020, just before the COVID pandemic, I got the chance to visit Megan at her home in Palm Springs. It was a joy just to be with her and laugh as we used to. We spent an afternoon catching up, looking at old photos. I was struck by just how well cared for she was and all Katharine was doing to make sure her mom was in a place where she was happy and comfortable.

Tannis Leach I made this little picture vignette for Megan for her 55th birthday in June 2020. I don't remember a time when I didn't know Megan. Our parents were old friends; we were neighbours; we were classmates; and we were young girls with big dreams. I pulled together some old memories - and a few more recent ones. Obviously no videographer...but I had fun putting it together. Brought back great memories.
