I knew Lee and Sandra in Japan while I was a missionary near Tanabe, Wakayama ken. When we visited them in Hiroshima, he had so many old clocks in the room we stayed in that I could not sleep because of so many chiming the hours. He took us to a trout farm and none of our language ability was very good and when we got our meals we learned that our ...
Makoto Tanaka This is a picture of him, Sandra, and the students in the Bible study class at the Japanese church. At the church, worship began on Sunday morning and Bible study class were held in the evening. Many students were coming to learn the Bible and English. In this class, he was teacher and he explained each chapter of the Bible. And, we talked about the meaning of Christianity and bible, sometimes difference between American calture and Japanese one. It was fun to get in touch with different cultures and to learn about the warm and kind Christian culture. The weekly study sessions were a lot of fun because of the natural brightness of him and all members of the church.
Makoto Tanaka This is a traveled picture for America with him and Japanese church member. He planned a week-long trip and we went to many places. Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, etc. We rented a car, made our first foreign drive, ate delicious American food, and visited many sight-seeing point. In Atlanta city, we stayed at his friend's house. All his friends were kind and the stay was fun. We also did water skiing on the lake. I remember every day was a very exciting and fulfilling trip. It is an important memory for us of spending time with him, his family and his friends.
Sarah Jones These are two of my father's favorite photographs and one of his favorite memories of the visits with my mother, after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He visited with her every day for hours at a time, for all ten years that she was there, right up until she went to wait for him in Heaven. There were many good days and wonderful memories over those years. This moment was one of them: a very good and cheerful day, a day of remembrance and connection between them, a day full of laugher and joy and dancing and singing and love.
Janice Slay This is a picture of our family (mother was taking the picture) from left: Doris Whaley, Euwell Lee Jones, Jr., Euwell Lee Jones, Sr., Lawrence Jones and Janice Jones Slay. We were a very close, loving family. Always hugging and kissing on goings and comings. We were raised with love, but also to be truthful, honest, kind and thoughtful. My father at one time thought about being a preacher, but marriage, children and life came along and changed that. We all turned out to be hard working people. Lee went on to go to Georgia Tech and work as a draftsman in several large engineering companies. He met and married the love of his life, Sandra Stallings. They love story lasted over 50 years until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and died some 12 years later. Before and during their marriage, they were devout Christians. After they had been married several years, they felt that God was directing them to go to Hiroshima, Japan as missionaries. They sold most of their possessions, packed what they were to take and flew to their new mission field. After 26 years In the field, having started several churches, taught from the Bible classes in English, they decided to come home. They gave their home, church and school properties to the last church they had. After coming back to America, Lee got a job at West Georgia University as a draftsman. It wasn’t long after that Sandra was diagnosed. He looked after her as long as he could and still work, but it got to be too much. He then investigated and interviewed several facilities and he found one that was just right. He went to see her every day for hours at a time. After 10 years, she passed away. He never forgot the love of his life and missed her each day. In 2021, he came down with Covid 19, a few months later he had a massive stroke, an hour later a massive heart attack and then about a month later he got bacterial peritonitis. He remained in the hospital til his daughters, Sarah and Jennifer came and got him and took him to their home in Tennessee. There he was cared for carefully and lovingly until he took his last breath and flew into the waiting arms of our Lord Jesus Christ!
I first met Lee about 30 years ago. He and Sandra had come home for a furlough from Japan and Lee was looking for a temporary job to earn some extra money while he was home. I didn't have any openings at my engineering office at that time, so I introduced him to my friend, Farlan Floyd, who also was a structural engineer. Farlan was happy to hi...
