It is with heavy hearts that we share with you that Jeff passed peacefully around 2:30 PM on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 from complications due to Covid. He passed on Day 27 of the virus, Day 20 in the hospital, Day 8 on a ventilator. Heavenly Father has called him back home and must have a very important assignment for him to oversee. Jeff served his 2-year mission in the Pocatello Idaho Mission, which gives him great credentials for bringing others to the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ on the other side of the veil. John Hale This was our first trip to Kings Island. Johnny and Jeff were so excited about the trip. We had a great time that day. They both fell asleep going home.

John Hale Johnny and Jeff loved basketball and joined a team called the Vikings which was in the Lexington city wide league along with some of their school friends. They loved it though it was a big commitment with all the practices and games. The teams hard work and great talent paid off, at the end of the season they were undefeated in regular league play. As it turned out their were two undefeated teams in the league but were both in different divisions due to geography and the number of teams involved. As it turns out the two undefeated teams met in the championship game and the Vikings won to end the season undefeated. The teams were really matched well talent wise, the outcome wasn't decided until the last few seconds of the game. Basketball is big in Lexington due to the Kentucky Wildcats so the city made a big deal out of it also. There was a banquet after the tournament where the players were fed well and then given a trophy for their accomplishment. It was a great day for Jeff as he was handed his trophy from the then mayor of Lexington, Scotty Baesler.

John Hale Jeff started his baseball career playing 3 years of T-ball. Then he moved up to the 9-12 year old games. He started playing baseball in the Lexington city league called Small Fry. After two years he went to the Little League program and played one year as a member of the Pirates team. The 10 teams only had 12 players so the following year they did away with 2 teams to get the rosters back up to 15 players. Jeff ended up on the Reds team coached by a Clays Mill elementary school teacher named Danny Ellis, aka, Mr. E. He was really great with the kids. During the season, they played the Dodgers, which was the best team in the league. Jeff and the pitcher for the Dodgers were good friends and he had told Jeff that he was going to strike him out when they played. The kid was good and he had a really great fast ball. When the teams finally met, Jeff came to bat against him the second time and both were determined to beat the other. The pitcher was really bearing down hard and would only throw Jeff fast balls, even when the coach told him not to. Jeff struggled hitting the breaking pitch and the coach knew it. Jeff kept fouling the balls off as he wasn't getting around fast enough to hit the ball squarely. Again the coach told him to not throw Jeff another fast ball. The pitcher didn't listen, he threw Jeff one more fast ball right down the middle and Jeff got enough of the ball to hit it over the fence for a home run. There were two men on base and Jeff drove them home, and they ended up winning the game 5-3. It was the only defeat that the Dodgers had during the year, but it was Jeff who was the hero of the Reds and lead them to a win over the best team in the league that season. In fact, I believe Jeff was the only player who hit a home run that year. I can still see that smile of joy and happiness when he came to home plate and looked up at all the rest of his team mates who were waiting to greet him as he touched the plate. It was a great day and a good year for Jeff. He went on to play 3 years of Babe Ruth and was loved by all the players.

When I was 13 years old, I was really struggling. I was not happy; in fact, I was miserable. I had bad grades in school, I was podgy, I felt awkward in every situation like a fish out of water. Worst of all, I didn’t have a friend, a confidante I could talk to. My middle school years were excruciating for me and I’m not exaggerating. Sometimes, ou...

Amanda Grigsby-Popen One of many birthday celebrations at the Griswald’s. 😂
Amanda Grigsby-Popen A classic picture of (some) of the guys coming over to jump on the “tramp”. On the weekends “our large group” would hang out at our house (the Griswald’s as the guys would say) and watch movies, play hide and go seek, jump on the tramp and then we were off to Stacy’s to go get in the hot tub! Oh the fun we had!!!

Amanda Grigsby-Popen I’m pretty sure this was taken at the Hale’s house for one of their many fish fry’s. Big John, Jonny, and Jeff would go fishing and come back w/TONS of fish. One of my favorite memories was the youth going to the lake w/the Hale’s to go water skiing and fishing. I tried my hardest to water ski but I just couldn’t get up!

John Hale In 1988 we bought a brand new 17 ft Challenger fiberglass fishing boat with a 88 hp Evinrude outboard motor. Finally we could go where the fish hide out and catch the big ones. In 1989 we had a great trip catching hybrid strippers at West Point Lake in Georgia. We only caught a few fish that day so we went to the dam and got lucky and caught 12 hybrids that weighed 68 lbs. In 1990 we went back during school break again thinking we would be able to duplicate our efforts only to find out that the weather was totally different. Someone told us that if we caught some 2 to 3 inch bluegill we could use them as bait to catch the big ones out from the rip rap rocks on the earth part of the dam. We used floats and fished down 14 ft deep and ended up catching 6 fish that weighted approx. 44 lbs. The unusual thing about it was we each caught 2 fish. We had a great time that day.

Chad White At Danny Osborne's house. Jeff Hale, Danny, Chad White, Tonya Yovich, Stacy Eads, Lori Heilig, Lindsey White. We used to go out to Danny's stepfather's sheep farm in rural Woodford Co. We loved hanging out and enjoying each others company. This wasn't everyone we hung out with but maybe the core group at this time. One night Jeff and I had the idea to jump in the goat's pin because we though it would be fun. It was a really bad idea. The goats chased us aggressively and Jeff escaped over the fence while I was rammed pretty hard by the billy goat. Luckily I was saved by my wallet in my back pocket. Jeff was laughing so hard watching me run in fear he couldn't speak...maybe about a 10 second air laugh followed by inaudible words. I have to mention that he didn't ask me if I was okay but of course I was laughing uncontrollably too. Just one of the many adventures we had together as teenage boys.

Cory White Not only did we grow up together, Jeff and I also served as missionary companions for three months in Blackfoot, Idaho. The good folks of Blackfoot didn’t know what to think of two boys from Kentucky. We had more fun and baptisms than any two people could ever hope. I cherish those three months when I had Jeff Hale to myself and thankful to my Heavenly Father for that unique and wonderful blessing. Jeff’s humility and good humor made me a better person. Goodbye my friend.
John Hale We had started a tradition to go fishing before and after Jeff and Johnny went on their missions. So, on June 26, 1993, Ed Hunkin, Jeff and I went to the Ohio River to catch some catfish as we knew where to catch the big ones. As soon as we got there, we saw shad minnows jumping out of the water at the Hydro-electric plant, so we setup our boat perfectly and set there and caught 55 white bass. We had come for catch fish so we stopped fishing there and went to the area that we know would product some big cats. We hung into at least 2 that day that were well over 20 lbs but didn't have a net big enough so we lost them. We did manage to catch and bring home 5 whoppers that ranged from 15 lbs, Jeff and I both caught one, and the smallest as around 8 lbs. That was probably the best day of fishing we had ever had. It was a great day to be on the water fishing with an old dear friend and Jeff who left for his mission the following month, I think.

John Hale Claire Hicks was the scout master for troop 206 in Lexington, Kentucky. He had organized a trip to Canada for the boys and scheduled it so he could get Jeff to be one of the adults. Jeff had just served his 2 year mission in Idaho and hadn't been home 2 weeks and they were off to their Canada fishing trip for 2 weeks. After they got their they had to portage across several islands in order to get to where the fishing was the best. All the boys including Jeff had the time of their life and everyone caught fish.
I will always remember Jeff's warm smile, kind eyes, and the promise that he was going to make you laugh if you spent any time at all with him. He had such a funny sense of humor! I admired Jeff's testimony and his willingness to help and serve others. I remember going fishing with Jeff one day, which was all fun and games until a big, black sn...

Stacey White This is a photo that I took of Jeff and my husband (then fiancé), Shane White, at a New Years Eve Singles Dance in Cincinnati, OH. We were celebrating the end of 1999 and the start of the year 2000! They were room-mates when when Shane and I first met. My very first memory of Jeff was when I called Shane for the first time and Jeff answered the phone. Shane had been at his parents house and hadn’t arrived back home yet, so Jeff and I chatted while we waited for him to get there. I remember Jeff as being a fun and friendly guy who was such a great friend to Shane. Shane has a lot of great stories of Jeff, and considered him one of his best and influential friends.
Denisha Sproul Jeff was one of the first friends I made at the YSA branch and the last person I dated before my husband Rodney. Knowing him taught me some of the most important qualities I wanted in a future spouse and I’m thankful for the strong testimony he had of our Savior. I’m grateful to have been lucky enough to have him in my life. Jeff will be remembered as a bright light, the funniest guy in the room that everyone wants to be around, and a kind & gentle soul. 2001 & 2002 (from Lexington to Rexburg)
Nancy Martin We always had such good times together. We could be doing nothing but sitting around, playing cards and it was still a great night. This picture was taken on one of the funnest nights of my life. I won tickets to a Reds game. I brought Jeff, Larkin, and Clark. We laughed so hard I just about peed my pants. We watched part of the game and then found out WWE wrestling was next door. We walked next door and someone gave us tickets to get in. Afterwards, we got in the car and were headed toward the freeway onramp to go home. We saw someone on the side of the road and we slowed down to see if they needed help. Low and behold, it was a wrestler from the event, Stone Cold Steve Austin. I looked right at him and he and I realized about the same time that I recognized him. Jeff hopped out of the car to say hi as he jumped into his car. He took off and so did we...without Jeff. I yelled, "Wait! Jeff's not in the car!" I looked back and he was running fast as a cheetah to catch up while yelling, "Waaaaiiitt!" We stopped and he jumped in. We never could find the other car. What an escapade that was! I love this picture of the four of us. We had some crazy adventures! So glad I was able to have so many adventures with you. Love you Jeff!
Hiro Iida I met him at Lexington YSA branch in 2000. As a small guy from Japan, I always felt comfortable when he was around. I still remember his big smile.

Dorreen Beaver Jeff blew both knees right after the Honeymoon. First as he was carrying a laundry basket down the stairs in their home in Nicholasville, the other knee while trying to help get his lawnmower started so Danson could mow his yard. You can't pull start a stubborn mower while holding both crutches under the same arm. His father John brought his SUV into the backyard and we loaded Jeff in the back and off to the hospital.

Dalynn Coffman The Great Funoodle Battle of 2013 These pictures that my daughter Julia, then 15 years old, snapped are some of the best examples of how wonderful Jeff was with all of his nieces and nephews. Notice a few things: Jeff is the only adult still in the battle, he takes time to include my tiny 4 year old Christopher, and that big ole grin on his face even though you know he's gotta be sweating like crazy! From my oldest son, Jakob, all the way down to my youngest, William. Jeff has been the favorite for most of them during at least one stage in their lives. Because he was there! He was present!

Keith Christensen Many our wondering about the Homer Simpson picture. Back when the Simpson movie came out I asked tge theater if I can have the cardboard stand up. So, we took homer home. Then I got creative with it. I would always be home before Jeff. So, I would move Homer to a different spot everyday. Homer would be looking out then window as jeff pulled in the driveway. Then I would move Homer to his bathroom's, put Homer in his shower, in his bed. Jeff, would love this. I can hear him doing the Homer "duh" Or say Homer what are you doing in my bed, as he was laughing. Jeff, had one of them best sense of humor's. He always had fun and made sure you had fun. Always made you laugh. We had a great time. I loved Jeff. We tried to hangout a lot when we both had a chance. The picture with Cal,Grant and myself was at a haunted house the best night we had. Talked a lot, laughed a lot. Shared stories of the past and some of the present. Although,me Jeff and grant hung out a few mote times. Watch the Superbowl, UFC fight where jeff talked the hostess in getting us a table. He was the life of the party. I am very grateful to have known Jeff. Grear friend, brother, father, uncle. He always put his troubles aside to help us get through ours. He helped me through my divorce. In a way we helped each other. Love you Jeff.

Jeff was one of the first friends I made when I moved here back in ‘99, we were roommates for a time as well, you truly couldn’t ask for a better friend. I’ve never met a more decent human being anywhere in my entire life. If there were more people like Jeff, the world would be a happier place. All my love to everyone here. ❤️

Desiree Syme Good ole Jeff! He was a great friend back in the singles ward days. He was always such a good friend. I remember always wanting to touch his butt chin. He acted like he hated it but I think he secretly loved my obsession with touching his chin. It was a game we played that I’d always try to beat him to touch it before he could “shpap” me away. It wasn’ta flick, but he’d cross his pointed and middle finger and flick me, or just brush my hand away. He always has a smile on his face and the ability to make everyone laugh. You’ll be missed, Jeff!♥️
