Family and friends
We are very sad to share that our dad passed away suddenly on June 15, 2020. If you knew our dad, then like us, you probably have a favorite story about him. He was an incredibly charismatic, funny and kind man who definitely left his mark on everyone that he met. In order to help us keep his memory alive, we would love to hear your favorite stories and see your favorite photos of him. Thank you... more

Join MemoriesPatti Foster Finding the Autrans right here in Cincinnati was one of the very best things that ever happened to the Fosters. The Ohio mom + European dad + 3 kids + art of entertaining and hosting + loving, fun, laughter-filled home + deep interesting conversations = soooo many great times. This photo takes me back to soon after we met when Susan and JP joined us for Peter Frampton's concert and backstage gathering. As always, JP brought zest and joy to the occasion. We love you all. We are so very sorry for your loss.

Nurit Rojstaczer Jean-Philippe (aka JP) and Sergio (my ex) were 2 of 3 foreign students in Amherst MA. Neither spoke or understood English very well and became good friends having lots of laughs about that. It was a fun group and I remember JP always had stories about how he escaped a police chase when he was speeding. He liked to have fun and always had good parties (with your mom too) in their home. In this picture he is holding one of my babies and sitting next to Osamu, another friend in the grad student group. 🤗❤️
Emily Autran
In elementary school we had a day off from school and my mom dropped me off in the morning to spend the day with the Autrans. When I arrived, Jean-Philippe was at the top of the stairs wearing the skimpiest pair of underwear I had ever seen. Susan shouted out “Jean-Philippe - we have company!” but he didn’t care. He shared the biggest smile and str...
Nurit Rojstaczer These pictures are from Mike Satkowski’s wedding, 25 years ago. These are the guys from grad school - Sergio, Osamu, Saroj, Stephan and Greg. They were a happy bunch.
I remember parties, laughter, dancing & great food. Once John-Philippe had grown his own basil & made pesto. He was so proud of himself. I loved talking with him because he was always so upbeat!
Nous pensons bien à vous tous et bien sûr nous pensons à Jean-Philippe. Nous le revoyons sur Hillcrest, son sourire chaleureux et communicatif. Toujours actif, dehors. We have many fond memories of JP. Particularly remember his warm smile, quick wit, and welcoming spirit. We loved gathering with the Autrans for Christmas Eve meals, singing and sharing together. Watching World Cup Soccer with JP was something special to behold! So grateful for these precious memories and holding you all in our hearts.
Jean-Philippe was my middle school soccer coach. His infectious personality and love of the game made the hardest practice fun and turned losses on the field into opportunities for growth and improvement. He was so invested in us as players and as young men. My deepest condolences to Susan, Emily, Alex, and Claire. He will be greatly missed.
Too many memories to count from dear Hillcrest Drive and beyond. Jean Phi always had a way of bringing joy and jokes to any situation - even when little Emily *accidentally* spent some solo time exploring Perfect North while the white Mazda minivan cruised the Indiana roads unknowingly until a sharp yelp of realization and quick U-turn, only to r...
I loved JP. Even though we did not see each other after 2006, I considered him a very dear friend. I have a heavy heart knowing he isn’t with us in this world any longer. I remember JP at the memorial service in honor of our dear friend Tom Feijtel, in Cincinnati, and how JP comforted us all by talking about how Tom would live on, through his three...
Jean Phi, Trano, ...
Margaret Eldredge I remember Jean-Philippe for his wit, charm, active listening, and grace as a host, dancer, windsurfer and soccer player. But most of all I remember him as the best soccer coach for his kids and for two of my kids. One of my favorite memories of Jean-Phi as a coach: it was a Star boys soccer game at the Wyoming Rec Center field and our team was unexpectedly ahead towards the end of the game against a team with a stronger record. One of the opposing forwards was extremely frustrated, and when our excellent goalie Nathan Richtand blocked his shot out of play, the kid decked Nathan into the back of the net corner post and left him flat on his back. Coach Autran was very upset and pointed out to the ref that the player should get a red card. The ref said something like he didn’t see anything, so Jean-Phi yelled to his players, “Ok, then, if they’re allowed to play rugby, then we’re going to play rugby too!” I may have some details wrong, but I loved that Coach Autran stood up for his players and was passionate about defending their safety and the game. He loved soccer, but he loved Emily, Alex and Claire so much more. RIP Jean-Philippe.
Debra Carter I was your father's Pigeon Forge friend. We shared some happy times together last fall and winter. He loved you three Emily, Alex, and Claire and spoke of you often. I won't forget him or his sweet smile and silly laugh.
Jim and I send sincere sympathy to you all. We met your family in Cincinnati. You were neighbors of our daughter's family, soon to be friends for life. When we visited Alli, we always shared time together with one or more of the Autrans. One night we had the fortune to be visiting on JP's birthday. We were invited to take part in the family's birth...
JP was so much fun to be around and I’m thankful to have been his friend. Whether it was over lunch or over text, we discussed everything - his children, the world, our church, and his spiritual growth as he put his faith in Jesus. I will miss him but I am thankful for the light he brought to all of us and I’m thankful to know that I’ll see him aga...
I had the pleasure of working with JP for several years at P&G. JP was such a joy - always smiling, cracking jokes. I enjoyed listening to his political discussions over lunch; he was opinionated but respectful of others who held differing views. We were both UMass alums, although we didn’t attend at the age time, but we often bonded over memori...
We had a gathering on Zoom last night from many of the UMass friends of JP. His absence was felt. But the joyful memories were what carried the night. A number of funny stories were shared and other things which are somehow private to us now, represented by a tear in more than one eye. From special people from a seemingly special time. No regr...
