Family and friends
Fred was an amazing son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend to those who were lucky to know him. He passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2020 after a year long battle with colon cancer. He had a strong impact on the lives of many people. Please feel free to share any memories and media that will help us celebrate his life.

Join MemoriesBlaise Moritz Deepest sympathies to Fred's family. I was lucky to go to school with Fred for 9 years but remember him best from St. Monica's. It was a small school. I had been the new kid in our grade in grade 3. He was the new kid to the group when he arrived in grade 5. We both had connections to the U.S., and we shared an interest in art and comics, sometimes going to the neighborhood store together. I remember seeing Superman 3 with him on my birthday. He was a great person to see a terrible movie with! This is our grade 7-8 class picture from when we were in grade 7 which would have been 1983-1984.
My sincere condolences to Fred's family. Fred gave me free Science class private tutoring in our HighSchool! I am also sorry that I lost touch in the recent years.
I was a close friend with Fred in High-School. He helped me much with the Science classes. He would let me come over to his parents place and give free tutorials on how to read those Science textbooks!!!
Emilio Marasigan No, Fred wasn't a huge basketball fan, and no he couldn't dunk a basketball (let alone shoot or dribble...?). But he did compose a replica of this image in pastel for art class (I wonder if he kept it?). I remember this piece in particular because we all thought/knew it was the most coveted piece of art hanging in the main hall where all of our pieces were on exposition, because of the subject. My friendship with Fred would probably have been the same had we NOT taken art class together throughout high school, but Fred and I and the rest of the 'art club' (including Eduardo, Roberto, Lowell, Bruno, etc.) had plenty of fun learning from Father McKinnon, our kindly teacher who put up with all of our shenanigans.
Emilio Marasigan St Mike's Football Team 1988- best pic I could dig out from our SMC Yearbook - Fred and a lot of his football buddies including Will. I don't have any stories to tell from of this because I wasn't on the team, but I certainly some of Fred's stories that he shared.
Emilio Marasigan These were two of Fred's favourite baseball players. Baseball, in particular Fantasy baseball, was something that tied us (and several of our St Mike's Alumni together). In March of 1990, Fred, 4 others, and I started our fantasy baseball pool, a pool that still runs to this day. Tony also joined the pool for a couple of years later on. For years baseball would dominate our conversation, as we pored over magazine publications in the winter and prepared for our annual draft. I always thought Fred had an advantage because his parents had a store and he had access to all the baseball publications - Street and Smiths, Bill Mazeroski's, Sporting News, etc. But Fred would battle me for the most inept Fantasy Baseball owner. In year one of our pool, I suggested a team name for him of "O-fer's loafers". In our last year of high school, Fred had gotten a joke nickname of O-fer, I think it was because he kept losing bets or something (O for or "Zero for", like you would say of a baseball player who went to bat and zero hits for x at bats). Fred loved and laughed it off, because his team in year 1 sucked. In that first year, though, Glenn Davis hit 5 HR's in one game and eternally became one of Fred's 'fave' players (sort of as a joke fave player, but someone Fred just chose to root for because of that historic weekend - to be fair Glenn Davis was a very good baseball player). (one of) His other (sort of) favourite player was the other guy Hector "The protector" Villanueva. Fred just couldn't get over the nickname the Protector, and the fact that he could hit HR's and had the body of a bowling ball, so Villanueva got adopted as a favourite player. Fred might have come in last in year 1. :)
Anthony Lee A crew of guys from Toronto had a baseball tourney in L.A. and decided to drive up the coast to visit me in San Francisco. This is the Golden Gate bridge and Fred was the lookout for our cousin, Jung Ho, who had to pee off of every bridge that he saw. VICTORY!
Frank Lee Fred and I were able to catch a game at Fenway back in July 2003 when I was living in Boston. Coincidentally the Blue Jays were in town. I met Fred through our Korean baseball league and I am so happy to have known him. I remember him complaining that he couldn't use "f.lee" as his U of T email address then realizing it belonged to me. I'll miss you Fred. Rest in Peace.
Anthony Lee Santa Claus thought that he could handle both Lee brothers on his lap at the same time. Challenge accepted!
Anthony Lee VEGAS!!! Bachelor Party.
Paul Nichols I found a bunch of photos of Fred and our motley crew of folks from RLP over the years… mostly up to no good :) They’re from 2004 up to about 2015. I’ve put a bunch of them here: https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0hGY8gBYGXlzr8
Anthony Lee Rehearsal dinner for my wedding. We are with Trish and her brother Jason.
Emilio Marasigan This was an historic day (for Fred) in our Fantasy pool. Fred and I battled for years as the worst owners in our league. I think this was the only year that Fred ever won the pool, and he actually tied for first :). 5 years later, Fred left the baseball pool because it was a lot of work (it can be), but he still stayed a part of the league in an 'advisory capacity' (partly because I forced him). Even then I was sad that he wasn't a full time owner, because, baseball had kept us talking to each other for so many years. But we still spoke regularly anyways.
Anthony Lee Fun fact: Averie is a mini version of Fred. She has a lot of the same interests that he had in his younger days. She loves to read and draw. Music also plays a big part in her life. On top of that, she has a really calm and pleasant personality (unlike the crazy younger brother and sister). If you spend a bit of time with her, you feel like you are talking to Uncle Bessie. They even kind of look the same.
Anthony Lee The big teddy bear and his two baby nieces. They could always count on him to show them a fun time no matter what they wanted to do.
Emilio Marasigan One of the topics Fred and I would always chat about was cars. Fred had a Honda accord (car pictured) his parents bought him (it was mostly his anyways because he drove it most of the time I think), so this was pretty much his first car. I had lots of memories of that Honda because Fred had a car and I didn't and I lived (sort of) close to Fred. Fred would frequently drive me home ( I did not live on his way home - I was out of the way). Fred was the kind of friend who would have no problem driving me home but when he didn't want to (or couldn't) would just say "No I don't want to drive you home today". Which was cool. We took that Honda Accord on a short road trip to Buffalo to buy Bazooka tubes in '91 or '92. In August 2011, I found a car that i wanted to buy in Montreal - for whatever reason I wanted a manual transmission subaru legacy GT wagon - a rare car actually, because who wants a wagon and manual transmission one at that? So I called up Fred and said "uh... you want to drive me to Montreal to pick up a car I'm going to buy". "Sure Ger, just pay for gas". Just like that. So we took another road trip, this time in his G37. We drove back in two cars, intermittently at pretty fast speeds (his car was faster than mine).
Carolyn Cheng Fred at my 40th birthday party. The theme was VIP Backstage Party and the idea was that you had to come dressed as a rockstar. When I saw Fred, I asked him, “Who are you?” And he answered, “I’m Chad Kroeger’s brother Fred.” Lol, I took him at face value at the time but I just Googled it - yup, he has no brother Fred so that was just Fred with a wig working it. I guess he really liked that wig or he didn’t have another one :-).
Melissa Lewandowski I started at Royal LePage in 2011 and Fred and I quickly became friends. Over the years, we realized we had so much in common that we gave each other the respective nicknames “Male Melissa” for Fred and “Female Fred” for me. We shared our love of coffee, puns and of course, fooooood! I’ll never forget the many entertaining conversations at his desk, checking out the latest fast food restaurant or our monthly Bulk Barn runs to get the candy we stocked at our desks but neither of us ate. This memory was from 2013 for our company’s 100th anniversary. Fred challenged me, and yes, he won! Grrrr. It was close, but you had me buddy! Fred, I am so grateful for your friendship and am so lucky to have known you. You are an amazing guy and the world will not be the same without you. I will miss bugging you along with Dave Bradshaw with our silly puns.
Mike Wrobel At the National Sales Conference also dressed as Ditka. I believe the theme was to dress as a celebrity.
Emilio Marasigan Class of 1990, 25 Year Reunion.
Mike Wrobel It brought me such joy when Fred would dress exactly as someone else in the office. Sylvain became the most likely when he joined on. They would dress alike at least once a week. But I will say that Fred's emergency preparedness was handy for me. One day I came to work and didn't realize I had a big rip in my jeans, so Fred lent me his backup pair. Since then I've only bought Tommy Hilfiger jeans because his were so damn comfy.
Mike Wrobel House of Prime Rib
Lisa Cavuoti Fred was a genuinely super nice guy who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. I know how much he loved the film festival and I always enjoyed talking movies with him. Poker nights, San Fran, RLP Holiday parties and get togethers with friends... all of my happy memories of Fred. He did not want any part of this photo op at our Luau a couple of summers ago, but I made him to do it anyway! What a good sport! 🍹🌴 Rest In Peace Fred, you deserve it after your long, difficult fight. I will miss you! ❌⭕️
Mike Wrobel The trophy Fred and I built in my backyard, there's a crazy story about how we got the parts to this trophy but Fred is the one who had the concept for it. He wanted robots and dinosaurs and a guy climbing up the side. He brought all this (of course), I just supplied the spray paint. We eventually added a football helmet to the top but it kept falling off.
Alicia Omand Fred and I in San Francisco for the Inman Conference - July 2018 ❤️ This was my first ever experience at the famed House of Prime Rib - he had talked it up for months, and it didn’t disappoint!
Alicia Omand Horsing around at the National Sales Conference in Halifax. I love his facial expression here.
Mike Wrobel I don't recall us drinking that night...I guess Fred was in a really fun mood. We sang Radio Ga Ga together that night. Fun times!!

Chris Davy Freddie with the big ditka's fantasy football group.

Yvon Roy This is the only picture of Fred I can find at one of our poker nights. And we played so many times. over the last ten years we must have played a least 50 games. Fred was really good at it, I do not remember him carving the Pineapple of shame once when I was hosting. Fred will always bring the group together, if Fred was playing we knew it would be fun. We did not play for money we played to be together and have some fun. When Fred raised during a hand it would always be a odd number, like 235 or 465 never a round number, it was his "thing" I was not around for the first few year of the group playing poker but the story goes that the pineapple of shame started with him. The rule was first person out of the table would have to carve a pineapple and offer it on plate to the remaining players at the table. The other picture is the last game I hosted last year in Toronto before we moved to Ottawa. Fred really wanted to be there but could not. In the picture you will see most of the people that was playing poker on a regular basis with Fred. We played for him that night as a group we decided that the money would go to Fred. It was an emotional moment. I will always associate poker night with Fred... Only good memories...

Anthony Lee Fred was so happy to get this bracelet and blanket that Averie made for him.
Anthony Lee His nieces really loved their Uncle Bessie
Mike Wrobel Yesterday's sunset from my backyard
Anthony Lee Fred loved Averie because she was so chill (actually exactly like Fred), Peyton because she is so spunky and Owen because he's like a puppy.
Anthony Lee Two of Fred's most cherished items. The first is his baseball glove. He's had this thing since early high school. It's made by company called Neumann that is known more for their tacky (sticky) football gloves. It had a lot of sentimental value for him because he loved playing baseball because it was social and he loved being around his teammates. The second his Superman lunchbox. This has been a collector's item for him even in early high school. Yes, he did tote this thing around when he was a little kid but it made its way on his shelf as a memory of his childhood over 30 years ago.
Yvon Roy Fred was a wonderful human being, he had such a good sense of humor and most importantly a dashing poker player. I always look up to Fred. The picture with Chewy was taken last October, I had just picked up the puppy and was heading back to Ottawa and met at a park. He was happy, he seem to enjoy spending time with Chewy. Just before we moved to Ottawa last summer he came over for some Steaks we both love our steaks...I Will miss you my friend.
Anthony Lee In Korea visiting my grandfather's home. Fred was barely 2 here.
Nelia Luis Fred, you are missed. Rest easy my friend...until we meet again. You are one of a kind.
Anthony Lee Family dinner a long long time ago.
Sandra Pfeifer I don’t have any pics of Fred and I, but I remembered when he made this for me being such a huge 49ers fan.
Anthony Lee Can't miss a Blue Jays game if you happen to be in the Bay Area and they are in town. Owen loved watching games with the both of us. He even became a Blue Jays fan by default :) This photo is probably from 2017.
Anthony Lee When we were all younger..
Anthony Lee When Da Bears are within driving distance, you gotta go. This was in Detroit. You always have to stop and take photos with the ladies right?
Lianne Marie It feels so strange to live in a world without Fred. I am so grateful for the time we got together these last few months. Missing you so much already buddy.
Alicia Omand Fred in February at my place for blueberry bourbon pancakes. Which he demolished :) We definitely bonded over our mutual love of the burb. He always had quite the stash at his desk too! That and the candy drawer. I think I polished off his fuzzy peach inventory a few too many times...
Mike Wrobel As close as I feel I came to finding it. I scoured Dollarama's. The idea that I might find a Bears Bic lighter right here in the GTA!?! It would be icing on the cake, but alas, Pats, Packers, Vikings, Ravens, Broncos, Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders. Again and again. When I was in Chicago, I went to a number of stores (yes, I also went to sports stores) and still could not find a damn Bears Bic lighter. Just for the record, I consider going online as cheating at this game, but at this point, I just want one.
Victoria Theriault Fred was one of a kind. He taught me to play poker and introduced me to bourbon (unfortunately it was the same night, so my poker skills aren't the best!) We shared a love of movies and attended TIFF together. We also shared the dubious title of Chicago Bears' Fans! We were so thrilled to attend a Bears' game and we lived that experience to its fullest! As a friend, Fred was the calm, steady guy you would go to when you needed to vent or a shoulder to cry on. His perspective was always so chill and usually quite humorous. He was scary smart, but so humble that you would never know it. Fred, my heart is broken. You will be SO missed and never ever forgotten. Victoria xo
When I joined Royal LePage in 2017, Fred was one of the first people I met that made me not only feel welcome but part of the tight knit friend group, many who had been working there for over 10 years together. I leaned on him for advice and guidance many times and he was never too busy to explain something or lend support in any way he could. He w...
Kyong Ah Seong 2015 Summer days with Fred Lee in Korea. He stayed in our home for a week, visiting nice places in Seoul, had amazing food and most importantly we had fun, we had good memories together. We cherish every moment with him. Rest in peace Fred Lee. We miss you very much.
Joanne Geridis Fred and I took a road trip from San Diego to Las Vegas and rented a mustang convertible for the drive. This photo was taken atop Mt. Palomar on route. It was really cold in the mountains but we left the top down anyway and when we finally got to Palm Springs and stopped the car, Fred said the desert air felt like a warm hug.
Patrick Rioux My sincere condolences to the Lee family. I just can’t imagine how you feel right now. Fred was a great friend & mentor and don’t think I wouldn’t be where I am today at Royal LePage without you. We had so much fun together. Lunch excursions, Friday afternoon bourbon, poker nights and countless other shaninigans. Love you Fred. 사랑해 친구 Patrick
Joanne Geridis Fred took this photo of a Joshua Tree on our drive to Las Vegas. One of the main reasons we took this trip was because Fred has always wanted to see a live Joshua Tree. Sadly we only found one once it was dark so he took this in the light of the car headlights. On the plus side the desert sky was amazing that night. And he got to see the lights of Vegas driving into the city at night for the first time. So many great memories...
Joanne Geridis Another great road trip with Fred and Chris through Redwoods State Park. Fred hugged every tree he saw.
Today was Fred's funeral and his burial. A part of me died today. I wanted to extend a thank you from the entire family for supporting us through attending the funeral, streaming it online or with kind words of support. There were some technical difficulties but the final video of the funeral service is on Vimeo
David Bradshaw Back in 2005/2006, the Bears were playing the Steelers, so Fred and I made a bet the the loser had to paint their face in the winner's team colours. Fred was true to his word, and showed up like this the next morning. I asked him why he didn't paint his whole face, and his reply was classic Fred, "Dude, remember how big my face is - I used the WHOLE package of face paint, you're lucky it covered this much". Fred was the greatest of friends, and I count myself lucky and honoured to have know him. Missing that smile like crazy today - safe journey my friend.
Anthony Lee Fred recently finished this drawing of my family from a photo we took in Hawaii
Anthony Lee First offer letter to join Royal LePage?
Anthony Lee Yup, that's me in the striped underwear and that's Jung Ho looking sleepy. Fred is already in full big brother mode.

David Bradshaw I can't believe it's been almost a year since we had to say goodbye to Fred. There's been so many times in the last year I've seen, heard or thought of something and immediately thought, "I gotta tell Fred", and this weird little song is one of those times. As big of a football fanatic as Fred was, he never got into the CFL, and Mike and I used to bug him so hard about that - after all, it is definitely the better game ;-). Anyway, I stumbled on to a funky little project that a music historian had undertaken a bunch of years ago to find songs either about the CFL, or written by CFL payers. I played this song and it absolutely made me think of Fred. Like the song says, "Life's like Canadian football, you don't get many chances" - and Fred definitely made full use of all 3 downs that he was given. He lived life full-on, always looking to lift up the people around him, always looking to bring people together - and always to help them laugh. Fred, I know you're probably annoyed that I'm comparing you to the CFL, but you're one of a kind - just like the Canadian game. I miss you, brother.
Anthony Lee Happy 50th Birthday! Miss you every day.
