Elaine Hoctor

16 Jan 1954 - 10 Mar 2025
Written by Michael Walkeron18th March, 2025

Elaine spent a lifetime fighting for social justice, and was a brilliant and caring life partner to Paul, mother to Moira and Michael, grandmother to Alma and Louie, and a kind friend to so many. Elaine was brought up in Malta, to a British army officer who brought his family over after the war. She lived above the brewery where her dad worked until she moved to the UK in 1972 to study sociology at Leicester. She worked in various roles for local government, including as a welfare rights and housing advisor. After retiring, Elaine doubled down on her campaigning and could often be seen on picket lines for NHS workers, or on protests for Palestinian rights, as well as taking practical steps to maintain and improve her community. She got great joy from singing in a folk choir, exploring the UK with friends and family, and meeting with her book club. Elaine Hoctor passed away on Monday March 10th 2025, at the age of 71, after suffering a stroke. Her family are overwhelmed by the amount of support from the many people who her kindness reached. Family and Friends are invited to contribute tributes, stories, photos or video to this page to help memorialise and celebrate Elaine's life.
