Celebrating the life of

Edna Northam

21 Feb 1941 - 22 Sep 2024

Edna Jean Northam passed away on Sunday September the 22nd, 2024, at the age of 83. Edna's memory will forever live on, in the hearts of family and friends. Edna was born on the 21st of February 1941 and was married to William in 1964. They had two children Darren & Janine who were both with her right up until she passed, very peacefully. She was born in Mount Morgan, Queensland, before moving to Sydney's Eastern Suburbs with her two sisters Fay Anne, her oldest sister, and Miriam. Fay Anne tells me they were like peas in a pod! She was referred to as 'tom tit' who we think originated from Annie. Edna was the youngest of the three girls and had an amazing relationship with both. I know she loved them both immensely. They spoke to each other every two weeks without fail, alternating between who called who. I know this to be true, as I took on the role of interpreter in her late years! Her mother Annie May and Edward would have been incredibly proud of Edna for what she achieved, but more so for the beautiful woman she was! She was a lady of dignity, class, beauty, incredibly caring and kind. She brought laughter and joy to everyone she met. Edna was heartbroken when William passed away in 2017 for they truly shared a love story. Edna passed away two days after the anniversary of his passing, 20/9/2017. They are now together again in heaven as they belong. Edna's first job was in the Rural bank in Sydney, not long after her fourteenth birthday, and following in her eldest sister's footsteps, who also worked for the Rural bank. This enabled both Edna and William to purchase their first home at Lugarno, Sydney, where they shared the joy of bringing both their children into the world. Edna lived for her children and was an amazing mother, they were her world right up until the end. She had three beautiful grandchildren, Jake, Mia and Taylor too whom she was Nanna. She idolised them as she did Janine. Edna and William moved to Gosford in late in 1972 whereby they bought their second home, in Point Clare, again, thanks to mum working for the Rural Bank, she secured a loan before moving into what would become their lifetime home. Edna was incredibly grateful to my aunty Val (William's sister) with whom all four resided, whilst Edna searched for their new house and also obtained a job with Woolworths. Edna ended up working for over thirty years at Woolies, as she called them, eventually becoming head cashier at the Umina store. She was extremely diligent and hard working, respected by her peers, and made lifetime friends with a lot of her co-workers. Edna spent over fifty years making a lifetime of memories, bringing laughter and joy, through the good times and some difficult times, in her lifetime home. Always as the beautiful, special person she was. It is with a heavy heart at this time that we share our grief and I encourage all, to express your love and memories of mum here! I miss you mum so much mum. I'm heartbroken! Rest in peace for eternity Love Darren James Northam
