Edgardo Morales Grajo
28 Aug 1939 - 26 Jun 2022Edgardo Morales Grajo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, died Sunday night on June 26, 2022, at David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB. Edgardo was surrounded by the love of his immediate family at the time of his passing. Born August 28, 1939, Manila, Philippines, Edgardo was a resourceful young child who shined shoes at the age of 6, and sold candy in his youth on the streets of Manila. His mother caught him on occasion with sand in his ear, on the way home from school, and she correctly concluded, that he had been skipping school and swimming freely in Manila Bay with all of the ocean creatures, which he followed by a good round of boxing on the sands of the beach with his friends. At the age of 18 years old, Edgardo joined the U.S. Navy where his career included stints on aircraft carriers where he worked as a chef, a fireman, a shore patrolman, and in the trenches of the Vietnam War as a Master of Arms protecting the dead and the wounded while the medics came to the soldiers’ rescue. He also had the honor and solemn task of receiving many young U.S. soldiers during the Vietnam war onto the Navy carriers and then seeing them off on flotillas to the Vietnam shorelines. After almost 20 years in the U.S. Navy, Edgardo settled with his wife Leonor, son Edgar and two daughters, Christine and Agnes, in Fairfield, California on May, 25, 1977. He continued his career in the U.S. Federal government for 17 more years as a bulk mail handler for the U.S. Post Office located at the Richmond Bulk Mail Center, where he would off load large truck loads of mail, and on occasion would find a lost book on the conveyor belt, that he would read for his edification. Edgardo was known by all to be very generous and kind, often offering help to those in need. Edgardo was friendly and full of wisdom, often keeping a lot of interesting stories to himself until someone serendipitously mentioned something that jogged his memory, and had him telling wonderful life stories.
