Alan Bagg Ed always wanted me to visit the Flattops area of Colorado where he learned how to hunt elk with his dad, Elby. So in the summer of 2019 Maureen and I joined him for a backpacking trip. This is the happy trio before we set out on a three-day trek. We looked a lot more tired 3 days later!
Alan Bagg Ed was fascinated with his drones. He took a new one on our 3-day hike in the Flattops in July 2019. He was using it snoop on some elk in a distant meadow. I think it's fitting that Ed and I are looking up. He and I had many a talk about what lays beyond this earth. Now he knows. How cool is that?!
stephen french Ed loved planes, became a pilot and was fascinated by war birds. Show on Colorado
stephen french Ed and son Steve were able to go on one last amazing hike for a week in the Rockies near Buffalo Peak, Colorado. near 80 years old Ed was still packing over 50 lbs between 4-6 miles a day up and down the 2,500 elevation change.
stephen french Backpacking was certainly his favorite way to see the world
stephen french little did I know the truth of these words. This was a wonderful day, where father and son discussed regrets and said sorry but mostly just Loved each other and The Father's great creation of the wilderness
Alan Bagg Earlier this year Maureen and I commissioned Ed to create a new Buffalo painting since a previous favorite original was sold. Ed painted this one, he called "Bull," in record time and we are so glad he did. I'm pretty sure it was the last painting he completed before he passed. So it becomes extra special to us. RIP my friend. We will meet again.
Love you all!!
Ed was a wonderful man of tremendous talent. The artwork he did for the Pike National Historic Trail Association was fabulous. I am so blessed to have known him.
Elhanan ben-Avraham Link to Ed French memorial website Ed and I went to Art center, but only met when I taught a course at a church in Denver. We stayed in touch since then till his passing, criticizing each other's paintings- he in the Rockies, me in Jerusalem. He was a great guy- I'll miss him. Elhanan.

Jayne Oslin Ed was such a talented artist and he worked many hours on one of Jim's old hand saws, painting depictions of Jim's Vietnam experience. He would take nothing for it and said it was something he could do to honor Jim and the Vietnam Vets. Such a humble man with a big heart for others and for the Lord. This picture is only half of the saw with many great pictures.
Virginia Olson Ron and I extend our sincere condolences to Ed's family and friends. My husband, Ron Olson (Margaret French Olson's son) isn't very good with communicating with relatives and isn't on FaceBook. Our family of four connected with Ed during our visit to Disney World in 1984. He spent the morning explaining his career with Disney and sketched Mickey and Goofy in Kevin's autograph book that he was capturing autographs of Disney characters in. Kevin at age 5 was enamored with Ed and treasured that page in his book. I enjoyed following Ed's paintings on FaceBook and always wanted to visit him in Cotapaxi...just the name is a curiosity!.. His art work will live on as Ed has been welcomed with open arms by our Heavenly Father. RIP, Ed French.
Well, I can finally do this (I was the guy who found Ed on the floor, with a friend just a couple of seconds behind me). Ed and I were born in the same month & year - he was 13 days younger. The day before, I went to Ed's house and put a new battery in his truck. When I got there, I said, "How are you doing, Ed?" If you knew Ed, you know what he...
Alan Bagg Maureen and I visited Ed and Suzie shortly after they moved to their new home in Cotopaxi, where this photo was taken on their front deck. Before that Ed and Suzie lived a few years in a motor home. We caught up with them when we could wherever they traveled. One time they were camped on some land we owned in Westcliffe, Colorado near Cotopaxi. One night as we camped with them we were visited by a bear sniffing around the vehicles while we were sleeping. That seemed to make the trip for Ed!! He was always one to create some excitement wherever he went. Suzie loved showing us some new jeep trails whenever we visited.
Alan Bagg I met Ed in 1969 at a church we attended in Kenosha, Wisconsin, while he and his family were at New Tribes Mission. We remained best friends until the end. Ed was a prolific letter and postcard writer, keeping me noted of his career moves. I have kept what turns out to be treasure trove of his memos, sketches, notes and letters. Here's a sample.
Harv Hisgen “I lost a friend, a Christian brother, a dependable partner in Association issues, and one with whom I could share life experiences.” - Harv Hisgen, President Pike National Historic Trail Association He did so much to promote Zebulon Pike’s role in American history and to bring to life through his art what Pike and his men experienced.
