Dr. John Kwok 郭正光醫生
14th February, 1951 - 9th April, 2020Neurosurgeon, mad scientist, multi-instrumentalist, fisherman, painter, Professor X, affectionate husband, careless (but loving) father. We invite everyone who knew Dr. Kwok to share their stories and memories of him, illuminating his valor and perseverance in life. There's no way we can do it on our own with a life so vast. On April 9, 2020, on the first beautiful Spring afternoon Hong Kong has seen for quite some time, Dr. John Kwok passed away at the age of 69. He was born on 14 February, 1951 to Kwok Ng Woon Lin and Kwok Cheung. He was a medical graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1979 and Surgical Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1985. He then practiced until he became a renowned neurosurgeon in Hong Kong, with over 30 years of experience in the field - working closely together with life-long colleagues at Kwong Wah Hospital. He also became Adjunct Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 2012 until 2020. At home, our house is filled with instruments, paintings and computers. As much as he was dedicated to his work in medicine, he was a gifted artist - from jazzing up the house with basslines and guitar/piano solos from Shakatak, Koji Tamaki, and Billy Joel, to preserving his parents' lives in vivid photorealistic oil paintings. His vigor for life knows little to no bounds, and we pray he continues to shine valiantly by God's side in His Kingdom of Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Grace, his children, Valerie and Jonathan, and his sister, Margaret. Vigil will be held on May 5, 2020 at 6pm, in the International Funeral Parlor, Hung Hom, Hong Kong.
