Second memory: When I fist started to work on climate change (1990!), Deni generously offered to give me a one-to-one crash course in Integrated Resource Planning (why energy efficiency is cheaper than power stations). She gave it at her beachhouse.
Two vivid memories of many from working with Deni: Deni (and I) gatecrashing Bob Hawke's first economic summit (1983?) with a booklet we dashed off about the post-Franklin dam economic opportunities in Tasmania while staying with TWS supporters.
Deni brought her experience in California and elsewhere to the team and opened our eyes to what was happening outside Australia. My enduring memory of Deni was on 1 July 1983, the day that the High Court decision on the Franklin River was announced.
Deni was a member of the energy planning team at the old Dept of Minerals and Energy in Melbourne. I could say that I employed her, but did anyone ever employ Deni? - she just sort of arrived. She made a massive contribution to the team.
It was about 10 am and we were in some sort of serious meeting. Deni had brought a radio into the meeting and switched it on in time for the announcement. Her excitement and joy at the decision were a delight to see.
Deni Greene of the Franklin (From Bob Brown) Deni Greene of the Franklin At the heights - or, rather, depressing, deepest depths - of the campaign to save the Franklin River in 1981, Deni Greene flew in. Our (the Tasmanian Wilderness Society's) attention had been drawn to a paper Deni had written for California's Governor Jerry Brown on the m...

I was just thinking of her today, decided to google her, and found out about her passing. I am so sorry. What a rich life she led after PG&E! And what contributions she gave to the world. We were pals at PG&E and also getting through the Masters in Environmental Engineering program at Berkley. We would get hysterical as we tried to solve physi...
