Alice Hsy Born during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, mom grew up speaking Taiwanese at home, and learned to speak Japanese at school.

Alice Hsy Mom grew up in a traditional Chinese home complex (which also housed her father's medical practice), with siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a devoted domestic staff, some of whom became practically family.

Alice Hsy Mom's mastery of the Japanese language was flawless. Throughout her life, she continued reading Japanese books and magazines. She was also a big fan of Japanese health shows and dramas.
Alice Hsy Mom's father was a doctor, and her mother helped him in his practice, so they were always busy. Here she is in front of their pharmacy. Mom would spend much of her free time in her father's library, reading every book she could get her hands on.

Alice Hsy 德姑娘!! - Mom always spoke of her with such respect. Growing up I thought she was the "German lady" since "德姑" in Taiwanese sounds like "Germany." Now I know德明利姑娘 is Canadian born Isabel Taylor!

Alice Hsy From Ming-Fang Tung (敏芳): 我高一參加YMCA少年合唱團, 許牧師指揮,牧師娘伴奏. 高二寒假期間邵平男幹事安排好南下演唱,行前許牧師胃出血住在馬偕醫院,牧師娘臨危受命代打指揮,我們去醫院唱給牧師聽之後就南下旅行演唱,阿仁阿文阿瑜和保姆同行！

Wanda Tao 這張照片是我大學快畢業前（1966）在二哥家的外面陽台上與二嫂及三個小孩，佩仁，佩文及佩瑜一起拍的，那年七月我就出國了, 所以佩琪可能是我出國後出生的！ 大家都說阿瑜長的像我，其實是像她爸爸，可能是因為二哥是五個哥哥中我長的最像的！ 二嫂一直都在教鋼琴，除了在家教琴外每星期也有兩天要去學校教琴！當她去學校時我會安排在家 看顧小孩們，也因此跟幾個姪子姪女建立了很好的關係及感情，一直到今天仍然如此！幾個孩子都很乖，記的阿仁從小就彈的一手好鋼琴，也很俏皮，偶爾還會邊彈邊跟我講話開玩笑😝呢！他那可愛的樣子一直留在我的記憶中... 阿文從小就比較安靜但很聰明，而且他有一亇與他媽媽一般様的開朗笑顏，幾乎一碰面就不會讓人忘掉的笑容！ 二嫂文靜，喜愛讀書雜誌，做事有條有理，尤其是燒菜時一定把要煮的菜餚一樣様地先分類準備好！我就是從她兜學來，真是一生受用不淺…謝謝妳二嫂！可惜我到美國後大家就不常在一起，直到他們遷居到加州後才又再見面，然而多年來她的影像卻一直存在我的心中，是亇好媽嫣最難忘的也她有一個開懐韻朗笑😁！我將會永遠想念她……
