Join MemoriesHamilton Valentine David Valentine began his career in the early 1970s studying film and animation at Los Angeles City College.
Hamilton Valentine His experimental film work caught the attention of renowned animator, Jules Engel who accepted David into the Experimental Animation Program at Cal Arts in 1977. Two years later, David won a CINE Golden Eagle Award for "36 Views of Mt. Washington," an experimental animation about violence against women.
Hamilton Valentine Throughout the 1980s David worked as an animation camera operator for Filmmation Studios, Hanna-Barbera, and Bosustow Entertainment shooting network television cartoons and animated specials.
Hamilton Valentine David moved to Southern Connecticut in 1990 to pursue exhibiting his computer-assisted paintings and drawings. He went on to show his mixed media paintings in many venues including the New Haven Arts Council and the Yale Repertory Theater.
Jay McAdams David was a fabulous artist and we were honored to have him exhibit in 24th STreet Theatre's lobby gallery space last year. The photo is of David and his fellow artist, Susan Price, standing proudly before their exhibit, Tell Me a Story. David had clearly found his niche as a multi-media artist because he was curious about everything. Multi media artists think three levels above it all. He seemed to have quietly already thought about everything. We found out some years ago that Jacqueline and David have the same wedding anniversary as we do; August 10th. "What year?" Jacqueline asked. 1991. "Us too!" Both couples were married on that very same day before the turn of the century. So ever since then we toast Jacqueline and David on our anniversary. That will not change. We will continue to raise a glass to you both every August 10th. Cheers. Deb & Jay
Claire Davidson My fondest memories of David are of us sitting around after dinner, doing the dishes or just when we were doing nothing. Talking about everything and nothing, making him laugh his big wonderful laugh till he had to wipe tears from his eyes. I am forever grateful I had him in my life and deeply saddened his earthly life has ended. My love goes out to all those grieving his loss.
Hamilton Valentine David continued exhibiting his unique style of fine art in Washington, DC. where his artwork sold in several selected group shows and invitational exhibitions. In 1997, David graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Corcoran College of Art and Design. He was the first graduating student to include an interactive CD-ROM with his senior thesis paintings in the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
Stacie Beard Most of you know David as an artist and an entertainer. I knew him best as a good friend and a parent. Here we are in 1998 with our babies Robyn and Chloe, born 6 weeks apart. David and I always referred to each other as Twin - can't you see the resemblance? Smiles all around. I will miss him terribly.
Hamilton Valentine David returned to Los Angeles in 2000 with his wife and daughter where he has continued to advance his digitally influenced paintings and new media works as a studio artist, specializing in the integration of art, technology-use, and multimedia design for education and primary and secondary school curricula enrichment.

Rebecca Tuynman David Valentine was the real deal. He lived art, he exuded it and shared it with everyone with confidence and generosity. Every time I had opportunity to work with him, it was a pleasure. As much as I appreciate him professionally as a fellow artist and educator, my favorite memory of him is the time he took a break from a meeting that we were in to call in to his daughter's radio show as a fictional humorous listener, being SUCH a dad with both the extreme sweetness and eye-rolling silliness of his bit. I am so, so sorry that we've lost him.
David was my second cousin. His mother and my father were first cousins and his grandmother and my grandmother were sisters. I did not know my cousin as well as I should have, mainly because my father served his country for 30 years and we moved around. Once my father retired and the family moved to Fresno, California, I got to know that side of th...

Jodi Bonassi I remember the first time I met David. I was still a member at Gallery 825 and he introduced himself. He was so charismatic and spoke about this program for guest artists. He hardly knew me and just asked if I would like to be one. I started laughing and took this group shot of him. I did do some guest teaching for him and he was so enthusiastic. Loved the students and loved life.
Kristine Hatanaka Jacqueline and David are this larger than life couple....always advocating for the arts, providing unwavering support for young artists, championed the work of art teachers. They both worked tirelessly, giving so much of their time and energy. I can only speak about them as a pair. I was so very fortunate David took the time to organize 4 visiting artists for my students: Maija Beeton, Natasha June, Susan C Price, SP Harper.....All incredible artists and people. These experiences were unforgettable. David bursted with enthusiasm as he attended each session. David was a kindred spirit. He understood the work involved in teaching art to high school students. He was especially attuned to the needs young artists have to be exposed to new ideas, techniques, and artists from a broad spectrum. David always took the time to acknowledge the creative efforts and achievements of my students taking them seriously as I always did. His approach was professional. He embraced their talent. Both David and Jacqueline are great mentors to me. Inspirational. Every conversation, meaningful. I am so grateful for the gifts David shared, his insights, intelligence, generosity are what resonates with me now. David cared deeply. I will miss our friendship. All my love and condolences to Jacqueline and David’s family. Sincerely, Kristine Hatanaka (Retired) Art Teacher, Culver City High School and Co-Executive Director, Academy of Visual and Performing Arts

David was a wonderful, kind, patient person, and had a great sense of humor. When I taught at Alexander and asked him about connecting my technology or repairs every year, he always acted like it was the first time. It seems like I am writing memorials more and more frequently these days. David joined our Women's, Art, Jewish, Discussion Group a couple of years ago. Well, he was neither Jewish nor a woman, but aside from that he fit in perfectly. We had switched to Zoom when only two months ago David appeared on screen to add his thoughts to the discussion. ...
I met David after an art show we hosted at LA High, and he shared his vision for the Guest Artist program with me. Since then, we met annually to develop a program for artists to visit my classroom. He supported our art shows, and put sincere thought and enthusiasm into connecting us with artists who would enhance the art curriculum. His passion an...
Mr. V, like I, always called you, I will never forget you, thank you for never saying No to me, when I needed help, love the jokes and the time we share stories while drinking coffee in the morning at Gertz-Ressler, I will always remember you and of course the family.

Jane Fung Dear Robyn Rose and Jacqueline, I am so sorry for your loss, our loss. What a beautiful tribute you shared with us on Sunday. I learned so much about David. I had no idea. I first met David when he and Jacqueline were at Alexander Science Center School. They were our first PTA president(s) and champions of our school. Later on, he became our school's technology "guy." He did a little bit of everything and was always willing to help others, especially veteran teachers who were not tech-savvy like me. Whenever I called, he would answer. When something went wrong, he was there to problem solve. He always remained patient and calm, even when I wasn't. I appreciated that. What I will remember most about David was his kindness and willingness to help others. When I needed advice about educating and raising my son Daniel, he provided honest and insightful advice. The last time I chatted with him it was about helping a former student of mine find photos of her father. I will always remember his love for you both, and for people in general. What a beautiful soul. What an impact he made in the lives of others. He will be missed, but he leaves a wonderful legacy in your Robyn Rose. Thinking of you both, Jane (Daniel & Bryce) Bryce: "Tell them I am sorry for their loss. Mr. Valentine was a great guy. Whenever I saw him he would say "Hi Bryce!"
