We wish we could be here wi
It was always fun to be at the table with Uncle Dave at my mom and dad’s. I loved his hearty laugh. It was fun to watch how much he could eat and how much he enjoyed my mom’s cooking! Condolences to all of you. Such a hard time to have a funeral when friends and family can’t be near to offer support and comfort. Prayers for all of you and especial...
My thoughts and prayers are with you in a special way today. I wish we could all be there in person to celebrate the special man your husband, father and grandfather was. Good bye, Uncle Dave. We’ll miss you. With love and prayers, Jeff and Sandi
Lori Janzen We are extending our heart-felt condolences to Shirley, Angela, James, Colleen, Mark, and to every one in each family too. I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Dave. From the time I was a young girl until the last time I saw him in the fall of 2019, he always extended a warm friendly embrace and instigated some fun and laughter that we could share. I have fond memories of Uncle Dave and Aunt Trudy’s happy home where my sister and I overnighted for summer holidays; we had great fun playing, sharing mealtimes around the family dinner table, pitching in with picking raspberries for dessert, and stopping by the machine shed where Uncle Dave was at work. But it was my dad and mom and step-mom, Henry and Margaret and Katie, who especially loved hanging out with Dave, spanning all the years with Trudy and with Shirley. They had a lot of FUN together. They would go to a hockey game and follow it with coffee and dessert at home. After returning to Winkler from a weekend in Grand Forks, they’d still have the energy and interest to share another supper together and head out to a local hockey game in the evening. Some days, they went to Walhalla for supper and ended the night with lawn bowling. Other times, they had each other over for supper and spent the evening playing Wizard and other card games. They were close and took an interest in each other’s families. In recent years, when gathering for an annual extended family picnic in the Winkler park, Harold and I enjoyed sharing a picnic table with Dave and Shirley; sitting at a table with Dave (and dad/Henry) was always sure to bring some added fun to the event! Henry and Margaret had a lot of ADVENTURES with Dave and Shirley too. In Yuma, Arizona, the guys loved checking the orchards for ripe oranges and grapefruits, and together they enjoyed Mennonite dishes like Kielke in the RV park. Dave and Henry loved joking around; they are pictured in an old prison in Yuma, in 2005. Dave loved exploring and adventuring with Henry (and with their beloveds too of course!)....down unknown desert roads, into date groves and peanut patches. They traveled to the end of the Alaska Highway and to the western-most Anchor Point, staying up till past midnight to enjoy the long light hours. They had the time of their life in Alaska, I heard.....fish fries and the best comedy entertainment ever! They hit the east coast of the USA, finding nature preserves, suppers and shows, playing cards in hotel rooms, and bunking together on a cruise ship. They carried on in Puerto Vallarta too. They had more fun together than any of us will ever know! Some of the expressions on Dave’s face (in the photos) capture his sense of humour and just how much fun they had together! I am thankful for my Uncle Dave! He was warm-hearted, compassionate, kind, supportive, fun-loving, interested in his family, uplifting, sincere, trustworthy, dependable, and so much more! I will miss him. I really wish I could have seen him again after our return from our winter away. But I cherish the visits I had with him last summer and fall, at BTHC and at Tabor Home. And if Henry were still with us now, he’d have wanted to tell you, Shirley and family, how much he enjoyed your Dave!
Angela Adams Its been a month since you have been gone, we miss you everyday, we know that you are in a better place, we will all be with you, someday
Colleen Peters There are some days that I want to share with you something that would make you laugh or make you proud. These moments are hard. They will always be hard. You were always a phone call away. I miss hearing your voice and hearing you laugh. So thankful to have the many memories of laugh and love. We went through some sad times together but God made sure to give more than enough happy times. Thankful. Miss you Dad. Happy Birthday ( in two days but time is irrelevant where you are) in Heaven. The toll of time has no effect on you anymore. Thankful that you are with Jesus! All my love, Colleen
