Laurie Maitland Elton John - Hercules (1976) - live in concert with Cindy Bullens on backup vocals This fun track is an early John/Taupin collaboration, which appears to be based on the old joke about the wimp who has sand kicked in his face at the beach by a muscle man, who then walks off with his girlfriend. Although he wrote the lyrics - as always - it is difficult to imagine country boy Bernie allowing himself to be subjected to such treatment, but the likely inspiration is that it is a joke directed at Elton himself, who was a self-deprecating type even way back then. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, the singer-songwriter took his showbiz name Elton from saxophonist Elton Dean who played with Bluesology, and Long John Baldry, the band's leader. He changed it legally to his real name by notice in the June 11, 1972 edition of the London Gazette - an official British Government publication. The second verse of "Hercules" contains the lines: "Ooh well I like women and I like wine And I've always liked it that way."

Laurie Maitland Cindy Bullens - Survivor (1979) live clip Artist: Cindy Bullens. Song: Survivor. Album: Desire Wire. I heard this song literally 1 time back in 1980something? and never heard it again...but the chorus stayed in my head. I had no idea who the artist was or even what the name was but I remembered the "you're a survivor " chorus line. Years later, the internet is "invented" and I start yahoo'ing and Googling the chorus line and finally found it.. I think its a pretty cool tune. A bit "chic" oriented but still pretty cool. Cindy Bullens now has a new band, The Refugees, with a different style of music, but highly polished and impressive both vocally & song-writing wise. If Cindy, or reps for Cindy don't want this song here, please let me know - I'll remove promptly. I don't do this Youtube stuff for money; just for fun.

    1979West Newbury, MA, United States

Laurie Maitland Cindy Bullens - Too Close To Home - 1979 official video Cindy tried to make it big in the United States and worldwide to make that song a disco-flavored pop hit, entitled, "Too Close to Home", but her song, co-written by herself and her friend Mark Doyle didn't have enough promotion. Then it died too soon since it got eaten up by an indecent song, entitled, "An Englishman in New York", mistakenly by Godley & Creme. That's why she felt upset and disappointed when she never wanted to have her song receive more airplay rather than less. Her decent song should have been played at the discotheque instead of an indecent song, mistakenly done by Poussez, entitled, "Come On and Do It with Me" with too much moaning, groaning and cursing that ruined all the wholesomeness. Sorry that Miss Bullens would have hit the big time. Her song "Too Close to Home" should have been played more and more often on pop radio stations due to the color of her white skin. Her song should have been the winner. Sad to know that this song, written by her and Mark Doyle should have been a hit instead of Godley & Creme's "An Englishman in New York" that spoiled up all the family-oriented stuff.
