Christina Smyrnis (nee Barabatis)'s memory board

Wife of deceased husband Vassilios Smyrnis Beloved mother of daughter Mary and husband Chris Syrakis and son Fotios Smyrnis and wife Jane Much loved Grandchildren; Evangelos (Evan), Vasili, Athanasia (Nasia), Elizabeth (Ellie), Nicholas, Bradley Christina Barabatis was born in a village outside of Patrai, Greece. One of 10 children, Christina often took the role of being a mother to her younger brothers and sisters while her parents worked in the fields. At 12 years old she would travel to Athens and Patrai to learn dressmaking. Through her dressmaking, Christina made friends with Georgia Smyrnis. Through this friendship she correspondended with Vassilios Smyrnis who had moved to Australia. In 1957, Christina made the voyage by sea to Australia to marry Vassilios Smyrnis. Here, in Australia, Christina worked as a seamstress for various fashion brands; Rueben F Scarf, Dolina, Givoni. When her children - Mary and Foti were born, Christina began working from home. She always made sure that they had everything they needed and was there for them. As the children grew, Christina made sure that they were surrounded by friends and family and taught them the value of being honest, hardworking and honourable. As a family, Christina and Vassilios always took time to have a 2-4 week holiday every year creating wonderful memories. Once her children found their partners and married, Christina and Vassillios travelled aroung the world and around Australia. After losing her husband Vassilios in 2007, Christina's health began deteriorating but she remained strong willed and energetic. During the last 2 years, Christina continued to show how strong and vivacious she was right through to the end. Η Χριστίνα Barabatis γεννήθηκε σε ένα χωριό έξω από την Πάτρα.
