Christine Joy "Chrissy" Amphlett was an Australian singer who passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer. Most know her as the lead singer of the Australian band the Divinyls. The band was inducted in 2006 into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Born 1959 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, Amphlett started her career singing in the musical, “Let My People Come.” In 1980 the band The Divinyls was formed and a year later their album, “Boys in Town” was released. In 1982, she hit the silver screen in the movie, “Monkey Grip” and in 1988 she starred opposite Russell Crowe in the musical, “Blood Brothers.” In 1991, she found international fame with the Divinyls song “I Touch Myself” which reached number one in Australia, number four in the U.K. and number ten in the U.S. The Divinyls were inducted into the 2006 ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
