A Vietnam war veteran, who immigrated to the USA for a better life for his family. Chia, Yer Yang, his wife, and 2 daughters mai xee and mai kao, born in Laos, started their new lives in Tennessee and Yer Yang’s Brother helped him find jobs, learn English and taught him how to drive. Chia’s son, Xeng Xiong, was born in Tennessee. Soon after Xeng was born the family moved to Illinois. Chia’s next son, Kong meng xiong, was born. The family live in Dixon Illinois for 5 years. Chia was a city bus mechanic, maintaining the city bus engines and repairing broken parts of the bus. 5 years later, Chia’s next daughter, Foua xiong, was born. The family migrated to Minnesota to follow the xiong clan of Chia’s side of the family. Chia went to anoka technical college and got his certificate in welding. Chia continued to work in machinery factories running CNC, brake press, and other heavy metal machines. The next daughter born was pa xiong, then Choua xiong. Chia was working 40 hours a week and barely had time to spend with his family. His wife, Yer Yang, took care of the kids most of the time. After living a small upper apartment above a grocery store in south minneapolis, the family moved to go stay at one of chia’s close relatives that chia considered a brother. Chia’s family stayed in the upper duplex with his relative that he considered brother for 1-2 years. Yer Yang was able to get help from from Minneapolis public housing program so the family moved into their new home in North Minneapolis. The next son born is Kou xiong and finally a few years later Cheng Xiong, the last son is born. The family live in North Minneapolis for many years. With crime and violence rates rising in North Minneapolis, Chia bought a home in Brooklyn center and moved his family to Brooklyn center. Seemed like Crime and violence was following chia and his family everywhere they went. Chia decided to move his family to isolate from all the violence that was happening in Brooklyn center to Eden Prairie, MN. His children grew up and moved out of his home, chia moved back to apartments in north Minneapolis to be closer to the cities.
