Cadel Evans
Cadel Evans A young mother (Helen) taking her young son (me) on what was probably one of his first trips ever.
Cadel Evans Possibly the earliest recording of me riding a bike. Taken just a few hundred metres from where I suffered a life threatening accident. I remember it as early 1984
Cadel Evans An article from the 1993 Apollo Team newsletter, I was once allowed to race Downhill! I soon switched my attention to cross country in anticipation of being competitive overerseas.
Cadel Evans Starting out as a junior..pro tip; take your glasses off if they are transparent and fogging up!
Cadel Evans This was taken at the Cairns UCI World Cup, I came fifth and was overwhelmed with excitement. Being only 17 years old, surrounded by riders such as Mike Kloser from the US, I was in very good company.
Cadel Evans My international career truly began in 1995 after I joined the Australian Institute of Sport Mountain Bike (MTB) Program. I was incredibly proud of this achievement. In that same year I was lucky enough to receive the bronze medals at the Junior world mountain bike championship and the Junior world road time trial championship.
Cadel Evans My love for mountain biking truly became a career as I won the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in both 1998 and 1999. A very rewarding experience and achievement.
Cadel Evans A letter from my grandfather...who would have known that these things could become so important.
Cadel Evans 1999 was a big year for me, it was the year I started considering transitioning from mountain to road riding. I recall saying if a good opportunity, that is an opportunity to fulfill my maximum potential as a road rider… came my way in future, yes, I would be very interested in focusing on pursuing a road career at some point in the future. That notion started to become a reality after the Tour Down Under where I finished 12th overall.
Cadel Evans This was taken a month prior to the Olympics at the Canmore Round of the World Cup, in July 2000.
Cadel Evans Summer Olympics 2000.
Cadel Evans A very special experience being a part of the Australian team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. I placed 7th in the men's cross-country mountain bike race.
Cadel Evans Gran & Grumpy
Cadel Evans The year my decision took action, after riding for the Volvo Cannondale bike team in 1998. Through this relationship, I had the opportunity to race with the Saeco team and rode as a stagiaire with them in 1999 before turning professional with them in 2001.
Cadel Evans The start of a new career for me, on the road.
Cadel Evans This was taken shortly after I converted full time to road riding. I joined up with Mapei-QuickStep. This image was at my first Grand Tour, the 2002 Giro d’Italia. The pink jersey was a symbol of my loyalty to Mapei-Quickstep, I wore this in the first step. My family could definitely spot me in the crowd with this one!
Cadel Evans At stage 16 of the Giro d'Italia, I remember saying how much of a dream this has always been for me.
Cadel Evans I considered myself a neo-pro at this time and was honoured to be riding with such a large and well-renowned team.
Cadel Evans After a sudden closure of Mapei in 2003, I had to start looking elsewhere. It was a tough time of the year to do so. After Jan Ullrich had departed from Team Telekom, a spot was available. It was a strong opportunity and one that I couldn't pass up.
Cadel Evans Telekom later became T-Mobile in 2004.
Cadel Evans This was a tough year for me, I crashed twice on my left side and re-broke a recently healed collarbone. It impacted my confidence a bit and was a set back for my training. However, it motivated me more than ever to strive for my best.
Cadel Evans This photo was taken at the Tour of Austria in 2004, I won the second stage of the race for the team. A very special win, something that I was very proud of.
Cadel Evans This was my year, I told myself. I was hungry for a spot in the Tour de France. After winning the Tour of Austria and a stage, I unfortunately didn't make the tour team.
Cadel Evans In 2005, I chose to move to Lotto in order to continue fueling my goals of competing in the Tour De France.
Cadel Evans In 2006, I competed in my first Tour De France where I placed 4th overall. A incredible experience, I learnt a lot off the back of this and was eager for 2007 to come around.
Cadel Evans In 2006, I won the Tour de Romandie and the last stage which was a 20 km time trial around Lausanne.
Cadel Evans The Tour De France in 2007.
Cadel Evans I couldn't stop smiling as I stood on the podium, after only riding full-time road racing for 7 years.
Cadel Evans My training and hard work was starting to pay off as I placed second in the Tour De France.
Cadel Evans Another close race, however, I lost the gold medal position in the Tour De France. Although this race, was a chance for me to wear the yellow jersey as race leader.
Cadel Evans Award ceremony at the Tour De France.
Cadel Evans I was also able to ride in the 245 km men’s road race at the Beijing Olympics, finishing 15th. This was a unique experience and a very special memory to have.
Cadel Evans My teamates at Lotto; Johan Vansummeren, Matthew Lloyd and Charly Wegelius. Some great guys to ride with and friends for life.
Cadel Evans After winning the men’s world championship road race in Mendrisio, Switzerland, I was so excited.
Cadel Evans The Tour De France race this year was gruelling and tough, I placed 30th. However, I used this result as motivation to train and push myself harder.
Cadel Evans In 2010, I was ready for a change; so I made the move to the BMC Racing Team. That's the face of someone hungry to win! This picture was at Fleche Wallonne, a great win to take on.
Cadel Evans Giro d’Italia was very successful as I finished 5th overall.
Cadel Evans Our first Tour as BMC Racing Team, we were invited amongst a little controversy. Oh would could have been without a stupid crash in the first week.
Cadel Evans Although finishing in 26th place. I was still able to wear the yellow jersey for stage nine of the Tour de France. I remember this race, as I was riding with a hairline fracture in my left elbow from the previous stage.
Cadel Evans Caught up with old friend today and he gave me this photograph of us together 11 years ago. Georges Probst (R); he owned the local bike shop where I first moved to in Switzerland, from giving my a pump and GoreTex jacket on my first visit (1998) he became like an uncle to me. If so e if us are born with hearts of gold, he is one of them. The other gentleman (L) that looks like Ernesto Colnago? That’s another old friend of mine; Ernesto (Colnago).
Cadel Evans The earliest photo of my eldest son Robel.
Cadel Evans One of the first solid steps towards building a solid team for the Tour; prove to the guys you can do it, and the rest comes.
Cadel Evans Probably the image I most remembered for, fighting back tears of emotion; it was exactly 20 years since I watched my first Tour de France on TV that planted a seed (and a dream) in my head. What a journey!
Cadel Evans One of my greatest achievements occured on this date as I won the Tour De France. It was made even more special to know I was the first Australian to win the Tour de France.
Cadel Evans The Australian government wanted to hold a welcome/congratulations event after the 2011 Tour de France, I wondered if anyone would come 🙄 Little did I know the whole country had been following my every move over past three weeks 😃
Cadel Evans Little Obi and Molly on Mte Generoso...these are some the sweetest father and son memories of mine. Obi is not so little, and my 'therapist' Molly is no longer with us.
Cadel Evans At the 2013 Giro d’Italia, climbing the Tre Cime di Laveredo, it should have been a day to hold second on GC but with a mechanical issue in those conditions, I lost a position to Rigoberto Uran. Knowing the future of my career depended on this result, behind the scenes, I was furious. Still, managed to stay on the Podium so that was some consolation.
Cadel Evans 2014 Giro d’Italia presentation...always the last smile before the fight.
Cadel Evans In 2014, happy moment in the Giro d’Italia. My last grand tour for GC, it started well but I faded in the third week 😕 Good memories all the same...
Cadel Evans The 2015 Santos Tour Down Under was my last ever stage race. A bittersweet moment, of course I wanted to win but lacked the legs on Wiluna. Sacrificing a chance at a stage victory for my teammate (Rohan Dennis) was in a personal level, a very satisfying and professional way to go out.
Cadel Evans The best company in lockdown! 🥰
Cadel Evans Happy Mother’s Day!
Cadel Evans Robel can finally visit us in Stabio again!!!
Cadel Evans The guys from Memories visit👌
