Celebrating the life of

Bryan Richard Muschialli

15 Nov 1932 - 28 Jan 2013

Bryan Muschialli – Wow, what a fantastic life. To say that Bryan lived his life to the fullest is an understatement. He lived every day and every moment of the day to the fullest (so much so that not many of us could keep up with him!). Born in Daylesford in 1932, father Louis and mother Irene, with older brothers Lou, Frank, Laurie, and Max; (all deceased), younger sister Shirley and brother Barrie. Bryan cherished his family and friends, and he was always there for anyone that needed a helping hand, or a shoulder to lean on. “There’s no such word as CAN’T” was his lifetime motto. Nothing was impossible, you just had to put your mind to it and maybe work a little harder, and then it was possible. Bryan proved this time and time again throughout his life. He found his lifetime partner, Lynette, at the age of 25, whisked her off her feet, and they were married in November 1957! Bryan lived at Berwick until 1967 when he bought his land at Aspendale on the old Aspendale Racecourse (how appropriate) and moved the family to this ‘new’ estate at the time. Bryan soon got to know his neighbours well and the partying started, especially with the Rae family as Ronnie was a Carlton supporter and with Bryan being a fanatical Carlton supporter, so the Carlton parties began! We always said we had the best neighbourhood ever in Aspendale, hence Bryan remaining in the area from then on! Bryan worked for an exporter (William A. Jones) from 1955 and travelled with horses on the ship to Hong Kong, breaking in horses for the Hong Kong Jockey Club; also arranging the transhipment of horses through HK to Thailand, etc. Bryan and Lynette had four (“beautiful”) children – Kathleen, Tracy, Michael and Garry; and in 1968 Bryan decided to start his own livestock exporting company and also bloodstock consultancy business. With the support of Mum (Lynette) this became a very successful business. He bought a property at Pakenham South and set up an agistment farm. His brother Max and wife Coral lived on the property; and Bryan named the property after Coral and Mum, Lynette, hence the name CORALYN Lodge. He worked tirelessly for 50 years in the export and racing industries, and when we say ‘tirelessly’ we mean 7 days a week, 24/7! Bryan was a pioneer of livestock exports by AIR and in his 40 years of exporting some of his achievements included :- • 1971 largest movement of cattle exported from Australia by Air (300 Jersey cattle flown out of Essendon Airport on Boeing 707’s in3 loads. The cattle were a gift from the Australian Government to India. • 1977 – 1985 pioneered the export of Stud Dairy Cattle to Saudi Arabia, exporting nearly 4000 Holstein Friesians by both Air and Sea • Just a few organisations he supplied both horses and cattle to included the Indian Government; Royal Nepal Army; Sri Lankan Police Force; Jockey Club of Pakistan; Philippines National Stud Farm; Manila Polo Club; the Joint National Stud Farm Thailand; Thai Army; and the Korean Racing Association. • No job was too difficult for Bryan, he would always find a way and over his time exported Beef and Dairy Cattle; Racing, Breeding, Equestrian & Pleasure Horses; Sheep; Goats; Donkeys; Pigs; not to mention any other odds and sods. You ask for it and Bryan would find a way to supply it! • In 2006 Bryan was inducted into the Australian Livestock Exporters Hall of Fame • He fully supported and volunteered his time on committees of organisations such as Federation of Bloodstock Agents; Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria; Victorian Livestock Exporters Association; Bendigo Bank; etc. • He was an avid promoter of Australian thoroughbred horses to the world and believed that we could always match it with the best of them (hence his trip in June 2012 to watch our “Black Caviar” win at Ascot) In all of his achievements Dad was not one to boast or look for accolades, he just tackled whatever job he had to do head on and got on with it. He never gave up and always saw things through to the end. He was the ‘king’ of entertaining/hosting and loved going out for dinners with family and friends. Many of his clients became very good friends also; he was not just a professional businessman but a wonderful host and friend. It was great when he had a winner at the races cos that meant it was his shout for dinner with the family that night! He has been Mum’s primary carer for the past few years, and was always the first one there if family or friends needed help, or just love. He has travelled every continent of the world and experienced so many wonderful places including most of Australia. He was kind; generous; a rock; clever; invincible (in attitude); stubborn; determined; thoughtful; selfless; big hearted; charitable; considerate; and always a pure “gentleman”. R.I.P.
