Join MemoriesThank you to everyone who attended the Talk Story for Bruce Mosher It was a successful pot-luck of dad jokes, stories, poetry, tears, laughs, and memories. It was amazing to hear everyone and we hope Bruce lives in your heart forever. Thank you for spreading the word far and wide, all who knew Bruce were welcome to join and encouraged to participate. Since Bruce wasn't a traditionally religious ... more

The following is a letter I wrote as part of a homework assignment while in Yoga Teacher Training in 2019. We had a choice whether we wanted to send it - I sent it of course. ---------- Thank you Dad When I was very small, your hands always seemed so big and warm. I remember you holding my tiny balled-up frozen fist inside your palm as we walked ...
Colin Mosher From the length of my hair and the color of the porch this was like 98 or 99.

Colin Mosher Me as a tike, Bruce and Old Tom, my mom's dad. Nice tie pops - lookin' svelt in the early 80s!
Colin Mosher I wish I still had that haircut - Dad is lookin' pretty fly in that cap, I see how I got my killer sense of balance from his moderately questionable parenting tricks.
Colin Mosher Kinda grainy but quintessential Bruce - got the double pocket workshirt, keys on a clip... yup - that my dad!

Bryan Hidy This is Bruce from one of many times we camped at Goos Lake just outside of Lake City. Late 70's before we graduated (note the bell bottoms). Bruce won the gorilla mask at the county fair (Missaulkee County "Greatest 4th in the north). We drove around the campground loop that night, Bruce was on the the hood of the car. We passed a fellow walking that obviously had been drinking. Bruce leaned towards him and greeted him dressed as in the picture. The poor guy looked up, staggered backwards and fell into the bushes by the road. Just one of so many memories, we were best friends back then, until adulthood and families separated us, we did still keep in touch occasionally.
Colin Mosher Sara and I spent the day cleaning up the skoolie and the property. He left a hell of a legacy, which I think mattered to him. If anyone wants to stay out here for a week or two let us know, we might keep the place - it is fairly gorgeous.

Bryan Hidy Another good one of Bruce. He said he bought the top hat and tails at a thrift store, and ordered the funny glasses on line. I believe he was volunteering for the library in his community? In costume, lol!
Celeste Cline Bruce (and Lynn) took my yoga class together for years. Well, Bruce was there at least half the time, and he always brought his shoes to use as yoga blocks. He would arrive on a motorcycle, take off his shirt and practice with a belt and very un-stretchy shorts on. He was funny as hell and I loved having him in class every time. Over the years of course we became friends and when I opened my Deli in Kona on the Big Island Bruce and Lynn were the very first customers. I still have Bruce’s dollar framed on the wall. I was lucky to see him anytime he came to town. He would stop by for hugs (and a good chat of course). Curator of Verbs indeed. To me, Bruce was a big, smiling, loving man with a big brain and a giant heart. I am grateful to have known him and I am grateful for all the good laughs. He will be missed.
Deb Mosher Bruce's high school graduation pic, 1977, and a couple of others from his boyhood. When I think about my brother growing up, I remember how easy going he was, and generally, a cheerful guy.
Deb Mosher Fun-loving as ever, Rhode Island bike ride, complete with moose hat!
Deb Mosher Bruce was no stick in the mud. Always up for the next adventure, whitewater rafting the New River in West Virginia with a party of 19 ranging in age from young Master Colin to 60+ YOs!
Keith and Sandy July These smiles say it all! We were in the best of company when Bruce visited.
Keith and Sandy July We visited Bruce in Raleigh last year. In this picture, we took a short hike in the woods nearby. During our three day visit, we hit all of Bruce's favorite restaurants. We had Thai, Mexican (twice), pizza and ice cream from a local farm. The best meal we had by far was the French toast and bacon breakfast that Bruce cooked for us at his home. It was decadent! Butter, whipping cream, roasted almonds, maple syrup and fruit for toppings. We had the best time and are so happy we were able to spend some quality time with Bruce.
Keith and Sandy July We had a great time while visiting Bruce in Hawaii. It was nice to see Bruce's house in person. The pictures we had seen did not do it justice. We did a lot of eating, as usual, and, once again, he made us a delicious meal. Kalua pork and the trimmings. Yum! We hung out together all week and had the best time. Bruce didn't go with us when Keith wanted to go cliff diving!

My partner Mark and I met Bruce in 2009 when we first moved to the Big Island. Bruce had a truck for sale on craig's list and we went to see it. Mark and Bruce could not quite agree to the price, but we had a lovely chat. Ten minutes after we left, Bruce called us and said "Come on back and get the truck at your price, I like you guys." So we ...
Sara Earle "Sara I don't know how to upload stuff to a web page. Bruce would always help me with tech stuff. If you could put this on that page I'd appreciate it. Also you could add (in my words) that he was an invaluable partner in our volunteer fire service as well as an invaluable friend. Our neighbor Ron said the same thing as Bruce would do breakfast almost every Sunday with Ron and his invalid wife. Ron's wife has since passed away but I saw him today, and with a tear in his eye he reminded me of that, and how grateful he was for the grace that Bruce brought forth. We love you Bruce! The photo was taken June 25th 2013. We'd been dropped off by helicopter to fight a fire between Waipio and Waimanu valleys. "
Eric Wilson Bruce and Lynn came out to my home for visits several times. Bruce was quite the conversationalist and word smith - always enjoyed his visits. May Bruce rest in peace. For reference, I am Lynn's cousin and live in Oregon.
Bruce Mitchell Here is a picture from our 1976 Waverly high school yearbook. I bet he was just mugging for camera, who would guessed it got published!
Bruce Mitchell Here is one of the Class of '77 reunions. I believe it was 1987 or 1992.

Dad had a website that he posted one of the videos he made - he wanted to do a Charles Kuralt style thing where he interviewed people and gave insight into their lives. https://commonexceptions.com/
Janice O'Brien Bruce and Ginger, my cousin, visiting me, left and my daughter, Joy in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Wherever we lived, we made time to visit each other. Sadly, I never made it to Hawaii. Bruce was an integral part of our family, who we loved and admired. Despite not seeing him for the last ten years, we kept up our two hour phone discussions until about a year ago. May he soar among the stars.
Bruce & Sally Persing Bruce & Lynn came to us as Airbnb guests in April 2017. They canceled when Lynn got sick, but kept us updated on what was happening. They finally made the trip in Dec 2018. By then Lynn was in a wheelchair so the Bruces (both woodworkers) built a ramp to our front door to facilitate coming/going. They had a great time working together! Unfortunately, we didn't take a photo of Lynn, but this is Bruce with our cat.
Bruce & Sally Persing He visited us in 12/2019 and we visited him in Raleigh after that. As everyone has said, he was special. We enjoyed him enormously and were very sad when he chose to withdraw from everyone at the end so we weren't able to say goodbye.

Deb Mosher A gift from my brother. He styled the legs to look like a white-tailed deer's legs, which are plentiful in these parts.
