When I opened my eyes after surgery at MDACC, Beth was there. She called my son and handed me the phone.
Robert Gagel In the summer of 2014 Libby Grubbs and I approached Beth about participating in a 40+ year follow up of the J-kindred, the first family to have prophylactic thyroidectomy performed for familial medullary thyroid cancer. Beth was all in, despite the need to fly to Boston where the family is located! She arranged for the use of an ultrasound machine from the manufacturer; we stayed on Martha's Vineyard (hence the MV ferry in the photo) and commuted to a location south of Boston to evaluate the family. Beth and Rose-Marie Liboiron performed over 20 thyroid ultrasounds over two days, providing confirmation that the thyroid removals performed over 40 years ago when they were children and teenagers had cured these individuals. As the long weekend evolved I sensed that she viewed this as an adventure - not to be missed. When she was in she was all in! Words that I can use to describe Beth: Kind, persevering, blunt spoken, technically gifted and......always ready to go the extra mile. That was our Beth. Pictured in the photo left to right: Beth, Chardria Trotter, Libby Grubbs, Rose-Marie Liboiron, Frances Nieves.
Jennifer Cooperman-Rosenberg I feel so fortunate that I was able to bring the entire family together in Vail on September 9, 2017 for my wedding. Aunt Beth cherished every moment with her family. I am so glad that I have these joyful memories.
The second time I met Aunt Beth, she generously offered to pick up me and Jenn from the Houston airport. (Jenn and I had scrambled to rearrange flights not 5 hours earlier, so she hadn't properly prepared me!) Donning her trademarked blue scrubs, Beth greeted us curbside with huge hugs, a warm smile, and immediately offered us snacks of all variet...

You will always be a special friend. When Lisa needed you You were there When I needed you You were there Always there for the entire family! Thank you my friend. Linda & Michael
Beth had many faces to many people, but in our house she will always be remembered as Aunt Beth, especially to Harry's and my children Benjamin, Jennifer and Jennifer’s husband Scott. Whether she was referred to as Dr. Edeiken, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Beth, Dr. Beth, or simply Beth, she was, at her core, a self-less, caring woman. Her dedication and leg...

To Beth’s entire family – I am so very, very sad and sorry for your loss. And to all of her friends – I am so sorry for our loss. And I’m sorry for the world’s loss. This is hard to swallow. The woman who literally saved countless lives has left us. Doug and Brett you must know this about your amazing, smart, capable mom. It is literally impossible...
Dr. Beth was the camp doctor at Camp Matoaka in Smithfield, Maine. She embraced the position always with a smile as she just adored being around so many young campers and staff! We remember her first day when she arrived to camp, the airline had lost her luggage. She could care less about luggage. She was just happy to be at camp, and after a long ...
"He gave to Misery all he had, a tear, He gained from Heaven ('twas all he wished) a friend." Thomas Gray
Beth was an integral part of my clinical practice at MD Anderson and will be sorely missed. Always available for her patients and colleagues, we could trust her ultrasound reads implicitly. She particularly took such great care of all my pediatric patients, whom she treated like her own children. She had a way with her patients and their family mem...
I knew Beth as the parent of Doug and Brett whom I taught in the 7th and 8th grades. When I got the news of her passing yesterday, I just sat there for a long while, remembering those years i was blessed to have her in my life. Beth was so proud of her sons, her pride quiet but palpable. While she never bragged loudly on them or hovered over t...
It has taken me the better part of the last few days to begin to wrap my mind around the gaping hole in my heart. While I am acutely aware that Aunt Beth did not belong to just me or my family, beyond her professional stature and successes, she was the absolute center and matriarch of our branch of the generational tree. I will not list her pro...
Beth always made me feel welcome whenever I was in Houston. I have seen her as the glue that bonded the family together, with her presence, with her kindness, with her love. She is leaving a great void in her passing. -- For my parents, translated from Norwegian; The first time we met Beth was in Dublin after Maria and Dougs graduation. Over ti...
The fist time I met Beth, her kindness and sincerity warmed my heart. She embodies empathy, humility, tact, and unwavering leadership. Her legacy is the people she has uplifted and touched in a positive way. What a fighting spirit! Will miss her wisdoms and courage very much...
Eight months ago I had the honor of meeting the incredibly kind “Dr. Beth” during a short few days in Maine where Jeffrey Ault my husband was managing the summer theatre program at Camp Matoaka. Two days before my flight I accidentally jammed my arm into the exterior corner of our home in Florida. I bandaged it up myself that Sunday evening and the...
On my first date with Beth I was very eager to impress her. She was the girl I had always been looking for because of her kindness, character and interest in me. I didn't want anything to go wrong. Then on our way to the restaurant my tire went flat. I was mortified. I was going to try to change it, but no one had ever taught me to change a flat ti...
Beth was an outstanding physician and leader who cared deeply for her patients and team. She was always compassionate, innovative, and strong, yet humble. Beth led by example and was always happy to serve. Through her leadership, the neuro-interventional ultrasound service has grown exponentially which is a credit to her passion, knowledge, and...
As with many who knew Beth, hearing about her passing I felt such a sadness and a loss. Beth was more than friend but for the last 16 years she was my doctor...’captain of my MDA team’, no matter the diagnosis. Always available by phone or text, to answer my concerns about me or my family. Beth was not only the best in her speciality, she loved h...
I have sat down numerous times to try to write something here I just can't.. I wake up at 2:30am thinking about writing this, what to say, how do I tell you how much she meant to me and my family. I do not have the words to describe the hole in my heart that has been left by Beths passing. My stories are similar as many, if you were lucky enoug...
On this very day, April 30th, in 2002 the long standing Edeiken family patriarch JackJack passed expectantly and quietly. Waiting in the wings was Beth to succeed him in a roll which she was training for her entire adult life. She accepted the challenge with an indomitable style much like her father. It could be no other way! In the late afternoon ...
It all started with the red licorice. I was in the oldest bunk at camp Geneva, and she was in one of the youngest. I was the bearer of red licorice that she could share with everyone, and this made her feel special. As an older cousin I was able to be there for her in the early years. Our shared camp experiences laid a foundation that lasted a l...
My husband Chris and I knew Beth for over 30 years. Typically we saw her just once a year, at an annual New Year's Eve party at a mutual friend's home. We were always drawn to Beth's warmth and welcoming manner. Each year it was as if we had just seen each other yesterday. She was there to guide us in our parenting skills, from potty training to co...
Beth was a mentor, teacher, and mother to me. She supported me in my professional life but most importantly in my personal life. She helped me walk through finding the right school for my youngest son. I sought her out to find balance in my life. A recent funny memory--the Neuroradiology ultrasound department was planning the annual Christmas...
