Ashley Mayes
28 Oct 1976 - 04 Apr 2016Ashley Mayes, 39 of Swainsthorpe village near Norwich passed away 4th April 2016 after a brave fight with illness. He was born October 1976 in Norwich the son of Freddie and Denise and younger brother to Nigel. He leaves his beloved wife Rachael and his two sons Samuel and Noah. His family were his "world". He leaves special Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. Ashley went to the Lakenham first and middle schools before attending the Eaton CNS school in Norwich. As a child Ashley was a keen footballer and Hockey player, he went to Cubs and played the Trumpet in a local brass band. He had a very happy childhood enjoying family holidays, days out and trips to Carrow road. This is where his love for Norwich City Football club grew. Ash was a passionate member of the Yellow army. After Ashley left School he worked at Sainsburys as a butcher and fishmonger and as a chef in Pizza Hut. As he grew older he worked for the NHS at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital as a nurse then later as a housekeeper on Cley ward, he was dedicated to his work. As an adult Ashleys love for music grew and he enjoyed watching bands at local concert venues. He loved being sociable and he enjoyed nothing more than a few pints in one of his locals. He played Cricket for the Kings Arms and pool for the Crown and Horse and Dray pubs. Ashley also followed the England cricket team and enjoyed watching darts on the television. When Ashley met and fell in love with his future wife Rachael it was clear they were meant to be together. The births of his sons and his wedding day in 2012 were his happiest days ever. As a family they enjoyed time away at the caravan, trips to Costa coffee and family parties. Ashley touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
