Family and friends
This page is dedicated to the memory of Andreas Waltenburg, the one and only Swedish Big Head. As a husband and partner, a father (and grandfather!), a brother, an uncle, a steadfast boss, a generous mentor, and lifelong friend to many, Andreas was fiercely loyal and passionately proud of the deep connections he shared with everyone in his life. Those who managed to penetrate his larger than life ... more

Magnus Nilsson Casablanca Tea Room. A Swede, a Dane and a Norwegian walks into a bar. It goes bust. But it was fun while it lasted! What was a cozy and sophisticated venue during opening hours turned into a madhouse after the doors were locked. Don't get me wrong, they worked hard at that place, but they sure played hard as well.
Magnus Nilsson NYC bartenders don't get a lot of holidays. I convinced Andreas to get on a flight and join me in Mexico for a few days in the sun. I'm glad he did.

Magnus Nilsson This picture isn't really related to, but reminds me of some late night shenanigans. We were probably heading to Employees Only after a shift. This was one of those winters when there was a lot of snow and ice on the New York sidewalks, and we were in the middle of a snow fight. As Andreas lifted up a huge ice boulder over his head, getting ready to launch it towards me, a NYPD patrol car cruises by. Over the PA you can hear a tired NY cop, with a voice heavy from general disappointment in humanity: "Hey genius, drop that". Of course that turned in to a good catch phrase. Whenever one of us was about to do something stupid, the other would go "hey genius", and we would both do the dumb-chuckle. Yeah, you know the one: Huh-huh-huh.

Lasse Brahme Andreas was an uncompromising talent as a songwriter and musician. We met as teenagers and followed each other through the years. There were many recording sessions together. This photo is from our last recording together in 2016 in his and Mary's fantastic home in Richmond.
Tess Waltenburg Andreas, Tess, Johan and Amadeus.
Ananda Ambrose I caught these two in the F train some years back and waved hello. Loki reluctantly humored me with this photo. He was annoyed that I interrupted his subway time with dad.

Mary Dail Andreas was such a good sport to take part in this story I wanted to do about him in Zodiac Anthology's "Scorpio" issue. We called it "The Fool's Folly". He loved his bar and took such pride in every square inch of its decor, its food and most importantly its cocktails. My god, what a handsome man I married.
