Family and friends
Judy Lee Ana I wasn’t able to find pictures of us but I had a ton of photos of the kids. I remember meeting you and your beautiful family around Halloween and we’ve enjoyed seeing the kids get dressed up each year. I feel so grateful to have met you on Dudley Street. I’ll remember, in addition to Halloween, the epic block parties and our Oscar parties when we had a chance to have adult only time (for the most part.). I loved connecting with you as a mom and lover of good food and conversation. You are a true warrior and inspiration to us all.
Priscilla Mosqueda These are some of the beautiful moments I shared with Anita and Mari during our trip to Hawaii this year. I remember Ana trying to mimic the characters, saying “I can totally be Mickey”. 😂 I have known Anita since our college days. She was such a beautiful, intelligent, funny, kind, and inspiring warrior. I feel blessed to have known her.
Roberto M Look at all that hair we had, Mario! Great memories at our wedding.
Roberto M You and your mom, Nico, giving me a tour of San Francisco when I was interviewing for residency programs! I bought you a toy tour bus that you absolutely loved!
Roberto M A quick visit with lots of packed in activities for our trip to LA. Had lots of fun going to a fancy resort, watching some hip-hop documentary (Ana's choice), and hanging out with you boys.
Roberto M Your visit to Seattle without the kids! They missed you a lot, boys! We got to dress up and go to one of Seattle's fanciest restaurants! Also went on a fairy ride and met up with one of your mom's friend from medical school, Gina.
Roberto M Ana, being real like always! That humor. :) Had a great weekend getaway in Malibu with friends from Chicago, Seattle, and Pasadena.
Roberto M Your first trip to Seattle!
Leisy Abrego Ana was an active member of Epicentro, a Los Angeles-based Central American poetry collective, in the early 2000s. Though she was understandably much less involved in the group once she started medical school, she joined the Epicentros for readings at UC Berkeley and La Peña Cultural Center in the Bay Area in 2002, and also headlined an event in LA in 2008. Her poetry is raw and powerful, speaking to everyday themes of identity, sensuality, and survival in medical school.
Leisy Abrego In May 2005, Ana joined Epicentro for a meeting at Mama's Hot Tamales. Hugo Nelson Chávez took a picture of the group as we walked in the neighborhood.
Leisy Abrego In 2008, Ana headlined an event at Casa 0101 with other members of Epicentro.

maya chinchilla This is a copy of the bio Ana submitted to Desde el Epicentro: An Anthology of Central American Poetry and Art. Here is a link to recordings of her poetry. I don't know how else to share for now or if there is a way to upload audio, but this link will only last a week so please download and save its contents for now and I will figure out the best way to share. I have always loved your poetry and how you performed it! These recordings are gems. I'm so glad I found them. Besides the one with the one with cumbia the rest of the music I believe was original music by Entre Musicos with the End-Dependence collective collaboration with Epicentro. https://we.tl/t-nF4XviHeIv

Irma Miranda Sis in Laws!
hugO Chavez I recall the night you picked me up to attend a reading by our Epicentro Poets group at a pupusería in Silver Lake, a tribute to Roque Dalton. Were your driving a lancha? A Cadillac? When we arrived parking was, of course, a hassle but you found a spot just around the corner. After a couple attempts to parallel park you convinced me, a bus rider, that i could do it! Fotos here are of you “blessing the mic” in L.A. cafes, workshopping poetry with some of our gente’s finest artistic and intellectual cultural producers and educators, always fashionably fly with a smirk scientifically sly … and that one time we went to the Observatory for a photo shoot and unas carcajadas y vos cipota burlándote de las estrellas.
Thank you to Gustavo Guerra who organized us and asked us to reflect on: How do you write a poem to a healer poeta? We offer our collective poem with so much love, Anita. Ana Elizabeth Miranda Maldonado M.D. Ana vos sos poesía sos palabra poderosa… llena de amor tus flores para nuestra abundancia … Ana You are the green mountain touching purple ...
Meg Pearson It was no small feat to persuade residency leadership to let all 5 SFPC R3s take vacation at the same time, but it's not every day one of us gets married in Rio. Loved being there with all of you to celebrate Chitra and Itabora. And we cleaned up pretty good I'd say. ;) Fab Five loves you forever, Ana.
Chitra Chandran Ana has been a special part of so many beautiful and formative moments in my life. I am forever grateful for her grace, compassion, wit and steadfast friendship. These photos bring back memories of weddings, birthdays, graduation, RIO! So thankful for these priceless moments ❤️
Felisha Rohan-Minjares I have been friends with Ana since medical school and I feel so blessed to have made memories with her, our families, and our friends over the years.
Veronica Ramirez I met Ana when she was a medical student at Stanford and I was an undergrad/pre-med at Stanford. I had just started a summer pre-med program for URM in 2005, and Ana was one of the first Latinas in medicine I had ever met. She became a mentor to me and inspired me all along my medical training. This photo was taken in 2016 after we had dinner, and we were both attendings by then. Ana was a mentor and a friend. I knew that if I accomplished becoming a physician, I would work to mentor the new generation of physicians like Ana mentored and inspired me. I will always appreciate you, Ana. What a blessing you have been to so many.
Nancy Choe Ana visited my humble backyard studio to lend her support to an arts-based narrative medicine workshop I was creating to counter burnout among healthcare professionals. Her presence exuded compassion, insight, and creativity, as she graciously offered feedback and suggestions. Together, we delved into the realms of art and writing, immersing ourselves in the process. Ana crafted a striking painting and sculpture, bearing the weight of her diagnosis and its undeniable impact. Reflecting on her artwork, she spontaneously penned a heartfelt poem about her boys. Unbeknownst to me, Ana possessed a talent for wordsmithing, and I felt deeply honored to bear witness to her creative process. Although the details of her feelings and thoughts around these abstract images are hers and not mine to divulge, I am compelled to share the profound qualities that emanated from her: humility, resilience, and love.
