Family and friends
Loving Husband and Father, Doting Grandfather, Loyal Friend to so many across the world On March 13 2022, the world lost one of its brightest lights. Capt. Ali Rasheed ('Mamdoo') was larger than life, had a heart bigger than his body could contain, and a warmth and zest for life so infectious it touched everyone he met instantly. Raffo was the centre of his universe, Aneil and Jibraan his pride a... more

I was under his tutelage when he was with Singapore Airlines. A true gentleman and ever willing to share his knowledge. You will be missed Ali.
Rest In Peace Ali, Very fond memories of our time together in Singapore. You were always cheerful and positive, always had a smile on your face and this world is a poorer place with your passing. Sincere condolences and respects to the very many family and friends who are mourning your loss.

Some people pass through your life without noticing them. Ali was not one of them. Unique, joyous, funny, dashing and a very good pilot and instructor. You will be terribly missed but never forgotten Jerrt
I remember right before Ali was going to give his speech at Jib and Ling's wedding he asked me (the master of ceremony) for advice as he was feeling a little nervous. I told him to relax, everyone at the wedding was on his side and already loved his speech. He smiled, stood firm and repeated to himself 'they already love my speech' and off he went ...
Well, like passing ships in the night we stalked the Qatar training centre then laughed as we were both sent to the naughty boys office for messing up the examiners paper work again. It was obvious to me then when leaving Qatar for the last time after a lovely evening with Ali, Raff and Nino at your apartment in the Pearl that if I ever got the ch...
Yeok Chua We have had the privilege of coming to know Ali and Raf through the marriage of their son, Jibraan to Li Ling, daughter of our very good friends, Yew Huat and Angie Ong. These five photos (in consecutive order) capture our happy moments with Ali - 1. At the solemnisation ceremony of Li Ling and Jibraan held in the home of Yew Huat and Angie Ong; 2. A brief stopover for lunch at Constantia, South Africa before arrival at Capetown, the intended destination for the wedding celebration of Li Ling and Jibraan; 3. The wedding ceremony at the White Rabbit in Singapore; 4 & 5. The wedding banquet at St Regis, Singapore. We will miss Ali’s sunny disposition, warm smiles and affable ways. Love, Ho Soon and Yeok
I have wonderful memories of nights out in Hong Kong with Ali. He brought his infectious laugh and energy everywhere. His hilarious banter with Jib would always have us all roaring. We never wanted him to go home on those nights! I’ll also always remember how Ali beamed with pride when talking about his family. He will be deeply missed.
Ali was a great man. Aside from his exceptional sense of humour which put everyone at ease, he was so kind. After my injury, he went out of his way to visit me in hospital and make sure I was ok. He would check up on me for a long time after. I’m proud to have known him. Rest in peace Ali, my friend, and thank you for looking out for me. Lots of lo...
I only had a brief encounter with Mamdoo at Jib and Ling’s wedding, but it was plain to see how much he cared for his friends and family. His warmth and humour, made me imagine how fun it would have been living in that house for Jib and Aneel. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Benjamin Alexander Ali with his perma-smile! I can't believe we'll never exchange a joke again, in person or WhatsApp. You always found something funny to share, and a smile would instantly appear on the other side of the world. I'll miss you Ali! All my love, Benji

Andrew Mckechnie This is such sad news the passing of a true friend and gentlemen. I remember first meeting him back in July 1992 he was the Captain and me a green FO with Air 2000, we flew from Gatwick to Zakinthos and the next night to Kos. I remember my terrible landing in Kos even now and how Ali was so calm and relaxed with so much empathy and kindness. From then on he was always the Captain that I and many FOs in that company wanted to fly with he bolstered our confidence, he made us all better pilots. It wasn’t till years later that our paths crossed again this time in Singapore working for SQ cargo what a fantastic time that was . He had not changed a bit, still that easy going humorous manner it was so great to spend time with him and I have very fond memories of visiting him, Raf and Nino for fantastic supper’s cooked by Raf and always great to see Nino. I remember sitting on his balcony with a g n t’s usually seeking his advice over something about work or life, he had this great gift of being able to see things for what they really were and put everything into perspective such a calming influence, I really miss those evenings . The last time we met we hired a couple of bicycles and cycled up the East Coast Park to Changi and back we laughed all the way there and all the way back . Such great memories. Rest In Peace Ali you are going to be so much missed .
Garnet Hunt Ali and myself completing our emergency training with Qatar Airways. With his characteristic humour he suggested I wear the hood as it would make me better looking. Ali was the most generous and warm person you could wish to meet. A quintessential gentleman. Students were always very happy when they had him for training or checking. He coupled an easy going manner with great professionalism in an exemplary way, not always an easy balance. I will sorely miss our frequent calls always laced with humour. My condolences go out to Raf, Nino and Gibran. As you slip the surely bonds of earth rest in peace my friend. Garnet Hunt.
Zafar Alam My friend, I will miss you.
Abbie Wilson I took this photo of Ali when we returned to the Boeing office after the first lockdown. We were all apprehensive about the situation as well as wearing PPE, so in true Captain Rasheed style, he lightened the mood and made us all laugh by adding sunglasses to his look :-)
Uncle Ali was the nicest and kindest of souls. Living close by, I was lucky to bump into him often which would brighten up even the grayest of days. He was a family man through and through, always reaching for his phone to show you pictures of Theo, his absolute pride and joy. I will miss those encounters deeply. May you rest in peace dear Uncle A...
Jemma-Lia Pardy Uncle Ali was always so happy and cheerful whenever we saw him, smiling and laughing and telling us stories. The Rasheed family would kindly take care of our dog Winston whenever we would go on holiday and this is one of the many pictures of Winny being showered in love by Uncle Ali. May you rest in peace Uncle Ali, you will truly be missed X
Robert Pardy Ali with our baby Raffy on one of our visits. Ali was telling us how excited he was to hold Theo for the first time and had even prepared for Theo’s first visit to London with a new car to fit his car seat. So thoughtful and the kindest heart. X
Dear Ali was one of the nicest and most generous people I have known and I can’t believe he has taken off on his last flight. He has faced some difficult challenges over the years but always had a positive attitude and a great sense of humour. Last year, Ali very kindly invited me to the Boeing training centre in Crawley and the fun we had that day...
Suraj Singh He was a great Captain and Instructor during his time with Singapore Airlines. I thoroughly enjoyed flying with him and learned alot about aviation and life. I last saw him onboard SQ323 from AMS to SIN on 2 Nov 21 when he was visiting his family. You will be missed Ali. God Bless.
Liling Ong First time meeting his Grandson Theo. The connection was immediate and Theo calls him 'PA' !
Neil Benson Ali and me at our ‘Christmas Day Out’ at Lingfield Racecourse last December. We both enjoyed a little ‘flutter’ on the horses and exchanged tips, successes and (all too often!) failures on a daily basis. Ali was a great work colleague, and we became close friends. I’m already missing his smile, fantastic attitude to life and work, and companionship. Rest in peace my friend.
Daniel Dickson A wonderful, lasting memory of Ali. We spent New Year's eve with Ali and Raf. We had such a fantastic time, hanging out in their new neighbourhood in Wimbledon. A celebration we will never forget. Ali created this incredible Menu and Wine List for us. He did such things with so much excitement, passion and fun loving energy. We loved spending time with Ali.
With his infectious smile, his wordly stories captivated all around him. I was blessed to meet and spend time with Uncle in Hong Kong. I will never forget the day he popped by my office, looked over my shoulder, pointing at a share price chart and saying “Dingo Dingo….its gone up a lot…you should sell!! Quick quick!!” I should have listened…h...
I worked with Ali at Boeing in Crawley. I did not know him well but always enjoyed talking to him, finding him enthusiastic, fun and helpful when needed. I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of his demise far, far too young and so soon after retiring. I will miss him and offer my heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.
I remember flying with Capt Ali many times when I was a junior pilot. He came across as the nicest and most sincere instructor I've ever met. You will always be remembered..
It’s has been a privilege to have had Mamdoo as colleague ( flew as his Fo on the F-27) and as a friend for the past 40+ years . Inspired by his congenial and effervescent personality and his ability to always look at the positive side . He will be sorely missed. May Allah SWT have Mercy on his Soul and grant patience to his family to overcome t...
I first flew with Ali in Air Europe and later on in Emirates. He was a real gentleman and very much liked, respected by all the other colleagues. God bless his soul. Marcus Samet
They say “one’s presence is most remembered in one’s absence.” This is how Mamdoo will be remembered and missed by most, especially his loving family and close friends. His larger-then-life presence and his energy packed infectious aura will be most dearly missed. Goodbye! my friend. We are sure your flight to the heavens above will be as pleasan...
David Shah My earliest, childhood memory of Mamdoo - as Raffo’s then boyfriend with the moustache, warm eyes, big smile and bigger, warmer laugh - have remained unaltered through the nearly 50 years that I had the privilege to know him. Mamdoo’s generosity of spirit and affection have been gifts to cherish for me and all my family; and, even in this moment of sad loss, we are grateful for the memory we can treasure of this utterly kind and big-hearted gentleman, with the warm eyes and big smile. RIP Mamdoo.
Such terrible news. Our hearts go out to all of you. Our paths crossed through our lovely boys, Aneil and Adam at Tadworth. Ali was always so kind and positive despite his own tragedy. He was a tower of strength to his family and friends. With love from Val, Ian, Adam and Charles Lanceley.
I have fond memories of Ali as Jib and I were growing up in London. He was very youthful, high energy and eager to banter with Jib’s school friends. He never wanted to be treated as an "oldie". When we were studying in Paris, Ali reached out to me to organise a family surprise visit and a secret dinner for an unsuspecting Jibraan. Ali was in fine f...
I worked with Ali at Boeing and left a couple of weeks before him, we joked we were 'deserters' together! He was one of life's perfect gentlemen, always made time to have a chat, ask how I am and how my family was with genuine interest. Ali had such a positive way about him, always cheery and even when stressful things happened at work, he always...
Such a gentle and cheerful man, always had a good word for everybody. It was my good fortune to have come to know him both professionally and as a friend. Will miss him .
